The hotel is about a km from the city centre and is an ideal place during the pooram festival. Its in a quiet place but walking distance to the pooram grounds
Service- Was really good. Suggestion is provide hot water for longer period.
Food- Didn't try too much.So cant comment
Rooms-Clean & spacious . Toilets were clean. Only thing was odd smell when ever we enter the room after being kept locked for some time.
When we switched off the lights to go bed, the entire ceiling lit up with stars , moon, planets amazing sight. The main reason for me to go for 5 * on overall rating.
Overall a nice hotel .
We reached the hotel at 7pm and was greeted by an unmanned reception. 5minutes of wait later, a middle aged man appeared(whom I assume is the receptionist) and when we showed him the makemytrip voucher, he said makemytrip has cancelled the room. I proceed to call makemytrip to get the issue sorted out.
Loong story short, the hotel guys claim that they never received the money from makemytrip. The hotel guys also claim that they had called makemytrip a day before our arrival and demanded that if no money is deposited within 48 hours, they will cancel the booking. As no money was deposited in the hotel guys account, they had cancelled the booking without explicitly informing either makemytrip or us! Makemytrip has confirmed that they had made the payment on the day of arrival. When I checked if I can book a separate room with the hotel, they said that they don't have non AC rooms anymore and the only AC rooms available are 2100 rupees, very convenient.
I was on call with makemytrip for 1.5hours to get this issue resolved. During this time, makemytrip guys tried contacting the hotel guys multiple times and they just couldn't get connected to them. I asked makemytrip guys to talk to the hotel receptionist through my connected call, so I handed the phone over to the receptionist. But the receptionist kept repeating the same statement, 'No money, manager says no room'. No amount of statements and assurances from makemytrip were convincing enough for the receptionist to give us the service for which we had paid for. The justification given by the hotel manager was that makemytrip hadn't paid them dues in the past, so he doesn't trust them anymore with their assurances. When my wife asked him 'if the hotel doesn't find makemytrip credible enough, why the hotel doesn't disassociate them from it', the manager said he has already informed makemytrip of this, but still he gets bookings via makemytrip. Sounds like a proper slacker's excuse.
Did I mention that I had to go through all this from 7 to 830 pm with my wife in a strange town after a 12 hour bike ride!?
I have used makemytrip for a whole lot of hotel bookings, and this is the first time I had this kind of an experience!! That tells me that the hotel guys mucked things up somewhere..
Makemytrip did a wonderful job though, they arranged us in the closest hotel and provided us with an upgrade too!
So, here is a tip to all the folks who want to avoid any unpleasant experience in Trissur : Do yourself a favour and please stay clear of this hotel.
I stayed here with my friends during Thrissur Pooram 2016 (17th Apr 2016).
Booking and Check In
We had booked the room through a local contact. Though there was some confusion during check-in, we did manage to get two rooms. Saw a review where there is some problem if booked thru MakeMyTrip.com - so please be careful of how you book. Calling them directly might be the best option.
Rooms
Clean rooms. Bathrooms were also clean. Bedsheets were clean and no stains. Comfortable pillows. Split AC in both rooms, though one (in room 107) seemed an old one, so took longer to cool the room. The AC in the other room (room 112) was new and excellent.
Service
Service was good. We ordered dinner & lunch in room and it arrived in reasonable time (30 minutes).
Food
The food is the best part of this hotel. Excellent food. Would recommend to have it in their restaurant. I would recommend their Kerala meals for lunch. Dessert is an excellent payasam. Their non-veg meals is just veg meals + one fish curry. Breakfast of Appam and Egg roast (which looks like egg masala in other parts of the country) is also highly recommended. Food bill has to be settled in cash or card in the restaurant only. Strangely they do not add it to the room bill, though they do ask you your room number ! Their restaurant also servers beer, but since it was Pooram, it was dry day for two days (17th and 18th Apr 2016).
Price
- We booked two rooms for 6300 Rs per room (including an extra bed, AC rooms), even on the Pooram day, which is peak traffic day for all hotels in Thrissur. I heard some good hotels charge as much as 30,000 INR for that night.
- They even gave us a discount of 600 Rs per room.
Others
- If you want to keep your luggage after checking out, they have a side room near the reception (this room had a foul smell). If rooms are empty, you can even request them to let you retain the room free for next day till evening. It helps if you have an evening flight or train to catch.
- They can arrange taxi for airport or Rly station drop. Charges are normal, not extra high (paid 1400 INR for AC tax from airport to Kochi airport). Be sure to check the taxi when it comes - there was some confusion if 1400 INR was for AC or not - the taxi guy suggested 1400 was for non-AC while hotel had told 1200 for non-AC and 1400 for AC taxi. Toll charges of 100 Rs is charged extra by taxi guy.
- From the hotel, you can easily reach Thrissur Pooram center by auto with just the minimum fare of 20 Rs. And you also get autos from city center to hotel very late night or early morning (around 5 AM) after fire-cracker show at 40 Rs. Autos here do not allow more than 3 passengers.
- They keep calling you before check out, to remind to you 'return the key while checking out' - this is slightly irritating.
- My friend stayed at this hotel in 2006 too, so this hotel is at least 10 years old. They are renovating their suites on the 2nd floor now.
- During non-season, I think their rate is 1950 INR for non-AC rooms.
Summary -
Choose this hotel for the excellent food, good location and reasonable price.
