British Male, solo traveller. two armed guards at front/ poor wifi, very luxurious room, and room service- kebab was nice perhaps a bit undercooked. Hotel staff bought me an iphone charger late at night when I needed to charge my phone and my old one broke. Good location Safety tips in general for solo/western traveller: Don't go out at night/ Don't get in taxis. attempt to find a hire vehicle etc/ or a confirmed taxi number/ driver the money you pay will be nothing to what locals will get if they drop you off at a milita/insurgent.

Generally, do not expect a high profile hotel in Mazar. Barati is an old property at a very good location and has one of the highest value to prices in mazar. Rooms and beds are not so clean, but you’ll enjoy AC and private bathroom. I suppose no breakfast is served at hotel, but the service boy will be more that happy to bring you local dishes from neighboring restaurants.

$30USD pp for a 3 bed room with an ensuite. Hot water works and room was clean and spacious. Owner speaks good English and his ?son was very helpful and got anything we needed, speaking a reasonable level of english. Place has a guard at the bottom and a TV with CNN. Location is unbeatable, right at the northeastern corner of the shrine of hazrat ali. Can be a bit louad in early mornings and late at night due to the proximity and also there is a disco in the basement for locals

Room Tip:

I'll recommend this place for everyone, who wants visit Mazar-e Sharif. The localisation of the hotel is more than great! You can see Hazrat Ali Shrine from your window. It's a strict city center, so it's close to Hazrat Ali, post office, restaurants, carpet shops, bazaar and it's easy to catch a taxi to Balkh or to the bus stop, where you can find a bus to Kabul. As for me, the rooms are not cheap, but for sure they're not expensive also - it's Afghanistan - such a great country with lovely and friendly people, but still with a lot of problems, also with security - so in the price of room, you've got also an armed guard at the main entrance. The stuff is friendly and really helpful, despite problems with communication, but everything is possible to explain. The room prices are various, according to the view from the window, if you have ac or a fan, tv or bathroom at room or at the corridor. I chose the cheaper one, without bathroom and ac, and after bargain it was about 27$ per night. And I must admit, that the room, bathroom and the corridors were really clean. I spent there really great time and I'm strongly recommend this place.

I entered Afghanistan through the Uzbekistan border.Mazar was my first city here. Afghanistan is not for the faint hearted tourist!, but entering this hotel made me feel safe and ready to travel this amazing country. Sure the rooms are not very clean and the staff don't speak very good English but get over it your traveling in Afghanistan!! Turkey is a flight away if you want to complain about sanitary standards. Security here is decent and has beautiful views of the mosque as well. Great place !!!

Place was grungy and the room, sheets and so on were not clean. More off-putting was the money-grubbing behavior of the manager. Location is OK, not far from the shrine, but there are plenty of other hotels in various price ranges that are similarly located.
