Detailed Reviews
We were very lucky to be able to book 5 nights in the self catering barn at the first chance of being able to travel in Wales following lock down restrictions. The barn has been renovated to an extremely high standard and offers very comfortable accommodation. It is situated in a small village just outside the Brecon Beacons National Park and we found it well positioned to travel into the Park and around the local area. We found it a quiet location with stunning views of the mountains which you never tire of looking at. Owners Amanda and Barney are great hosts who warmly welcome their guests. We were impressed with their attention to detail. We would love to return to the area and this accommodation in the future. We recommend Argoed Barns and if you are looking for a romantic getaway as a couple check out the Geo Domes.

Both me and my boyfriend visited the Seren Bach Dome for a week in search of a well needed break, following the cancellation of our holidays this year and myself working non-stop through lockdown. We was looking for peace and tranquillity, which this trip provided.
Our first day we was greeted by Amanda, who was very polite and welcoming. She showed us the dome whilst also informing us of the area . We immediately fell in love with this place, the Dome was beautiful and also did not fail in the functional aspect. Over the coming days and nights we fell in love with the views as you sat on the swinging chair next to a crackling fire or enjoying a glass of prosecco in the hot tub. We were able to visit local sites like the Brecon Beacons and The Waterfalls which are amazing in the day and of an evening take a walk down to the Local pub 'Felin Fach Griffin' which displays tremendous food and service.
It is also worth noting that Argoed barns abide to and respect the COVID-19 guidelines, we was temperature monitored upon arrival and was asked to remove all bed lining and place into wash bag on departure, furthermore if we would like extra Wood or Kindling we was able to freely get it and then settle the charges upon departure.

Four of us stayed here with a baby and two dogs in March 2020. It's a great space for a small group and the dogs loved running around outside (apologies to the wild rabbits...). On clear nights many stars can be seen and at this time of year the sun rises over the peaks opposite, the views are stunning.
The service provided was excellent with lots of clear communication and offers of help / advice. The owner takes sustainability seriously - the barn has underfloor heating, the tap water is from a bore hole (no plastic bottles of water required), all waste bins are clearly marked, the owner even makes special trips to the nearest waste centre as additional items can be recycled there. Toiletries are from a local social enterprise and toilet paper is from the amazing who gives a crap.
A book of ideas on what to do nearby is provided, note that some of them are quite hardcore! We got pleasantly lost in a field of sheep looking for a waterfall!
Thoroughly recommended and great value based on four people sharing. Check out the Felin Fach Griffin for lunch, the food is awesome.

The Byre is a cottage at Argoed Barns near Brecon, tastefully converted from a farm barn. There are two large well-furnished bedrooms with huge beds and both with en suite bathrooms. Views from both are across lovely hills and fields. The cottage has a large open-plan living room/kitchen wth everything you need and is very pleasant to spend time in. There is a large private decking area with garden furniture and fabulous mounttain views.
The hosts, Amanda and Barney, have thought of everything you will need for a holiday here, lots of advice on what to see, walking routes, local guides, satellite TVs etc. The location is perfect for the Brecon Beacons, Hay on Wye, Wye Valley, LLangors lake etc.
Four of us have already stayed here twice and will be coming back again.

My hubby and I stayed at Argoed geodome for our anniversary, we stayed in the larger of the two domes Seren Mawr. On arrival we were greeted by Amanda who is lovely and very helpful, she even baked a little cake for our anniversary which was lovely 😊
The dome is cosy with lovely views of the black mountains, a small kitchen area which has what you need for basic cooking., dining area with the best views and a seating area with same. The bed was super cosy and comfortable too. The tap and sink are outside as it the small raised shed with eco loo and electric shower (the eco loo took a bit of getting used to).
We enjoyed a lovely comfortable stay in the dome which was kept lovely and cosy of an evening by the wood burner. We had never used a wooden hot tub before, it was really comfortable and hot, although it does take a bit of wood to get it up to a good temperature. Wood is available from a small store at the bottom of the hill, as is fire lighters, kindling and ice blocks for the cooler box to keep food chilled, everything is catered for.
The only thing I would mention if you are thinking of booking, would be the hill to the dome, it is quite steep but this is obviously because of its elevation for the beautiful views, just something to consider. Having said that Amanda was very helpful with all our stuff getting the quad bike out to help with our bags.
All in all we had a lovely time and I would recommend a stay here.

My husband and I stayed in the Shepherd Hut at Argoed Barns for two nights.
Amanda is an extremely friendly and welcoming host, with a great eye for design and attention to detail.
The hut is perfectly positioned to give the most fantastic views of the Black Mountains and the Brecon Beacons. The private terrace is the perfect spot to sit back and relax or enjoy your breakfast with the view. And if the weather is kind, you can gaze at the amazing starry night sky.
Inside the hut there is plenty of space to relax, play a game etc if the Welsh weather closes in. Even when it's raining outside, it's easy to get lost in the view from the large side window.
The breakfast delivered each morning was delicious, and filling. We also took advantage of the packed lunch offer - they were extremely good value for money and they certainly kept us going on our long hikes in the Brecons.
We'd be very happy to stay are Argoed Barns again, and perhaps try out one of the Geodomes.

You were a delight to meet and I am so pleased you thoroughly enjoyed your stay. I forgot to mention at the time, when you commented on the delicious apples, that they were picked off the tree that morning. I hope that we will see you again on numerous occasions so you can stay in each different accommodation to contrast and compare! Warmest wishes, A x

Stayed for a long weekend in February, when the standard of accommodation is particularly important if the weather is against you. An outstanding location with beautiful, far reaching, unimpeded views outside and fitted out to an exceptionally high standard inside. Fantastic downstairs bedroom with french doors and views across the countryside. Excellent communication and contact from the owner with all the information you could need readily available. Would be a great place to stay at any time of year. Thank you.

We stayed in the Byre for October half term (2 adults, 2 kids and a pooch) and we couldn’t of asked for more.
The location is perfect. Isolated enough to have complete darkness at night with no noise but yet only 15 minutes drive from Brecon and the main roads - perfect for exploring.
The barn itself was a simply stunning. A kitchen well stocked with the necessary kit, large bedrooms, roll top bath, and hot showers with good water pressure for after those wet hill walks!
The log fire was perfect and there is access to a large log store to keep you topped up (extra charge per bag).
One of the best holiday cottages we’ve stayed in and we can’t recommend it enough.

We stayed 2 nights in the Shepherd's Hut at Argoed Barns and were welcomed by the host Amanda for whom nothing seems to be too much trouble. Lots of lovely touches including mini birthday cake waiting in the hut to celebrate my husband's birthday, personal delivery to our decking of home cooked Italian dinner and a Fortnum and Mason hamper containing breakfast waiting on our doorstep to welcome the day. Cosy comfy bed (lots of storage space hidden below) toilet and hot power shower! And views along the ridge from Hay Bluff to Pen y Fan. Surrounded by hundreds of sheep to add to the authentic experience! Who knew that Shepherds/desses lived in such luxury?! Highly recommended.

The Byre at Argoed Barns provided us with everything we needed to have a relaxed stay. We bbq’d and Used the fire pit to enjoy outdoor evenings to view the dark sky and spot passing satellites. The daytime view of the local area and the Brecon Beacons are breathtaking. The Location is perfect as a base for walking and exploring, we also went to zip world in Aberdare for th fastest seated zip line experience which was really cool even on a rainy day.. the accommodation was very comfortable and clean with luxurious bathrooms. On arrival we were surprised to find a home baked Victoria sandwich which went down well with a cup of tea as we settled in. Amanda and Barney were very welcoming hosts and we will definitely recommend Argoed Barns to others.
