through a toll gate over Maputo bridge, the road (via Google Maps) leads you to a dusty meander of dirt road (if wet, is a nightmare without an SUV), for about 20min which would make anyone second guess their decision of booking at Gallery Hotel, but as the road ends and you see your destination on the right, you're still not convinced, until you step in. From the moment you exit the car, the security guard ensures you're parked well for your stay. The reception and service is hospitable, local, and professional. The authentic look of the building already makes you forget the dirt road travelled. A small gallery of rememberance to Samora Micheal helps you understand the importance of this icon and freedom fighter. A welcoming drinks helps from the heat, but adds to the pleasant invite. A sea side upgrade is always welcomed, as your balcony is no stranger to crashing waves, and shaded palm trees. Sandra, Nelson, and Julio, took personal care and interest in our banter and questions about the hotel and surrounds. An excellent, mouth watering, and well priced menu had us in the Marisol restaurant every night. The hotel courtyard is set up in a way that evokes community and sense of privacy. Should you find yourself in Maputo district, this gem on the other side +-40min away is work the stay. I'd rate it 6stars. Aasief and Zureenah, Cape Town, South Africa

I stayed with 4 friends in one of the penthouses, which has a spacious kitchen and living room. The huge balcony is a great place to enjoy the view of the beach as well as Maputo Bay and the skyline. One of the most beautiful sunsets I have ever seen! The resort has a unique style that gives it a cozy atmosphere. Combined with the great staff and especially the funny bartender, we felt right at home! On top, the Marisol Restaurant in the hotel serves a delicious breakfast and the best seafood I've ever tasted. I highly recommend the king prawns and the seafood pasta! I really love this place and hope to come back soon to see the new bar in the sea!

Excellent hotel in a beautiful environment. We slept in a very spacious suite with a kitchen equipped with a big American-style fridge, a huge flatscreen Smart Tv. The hotel is located at the beach and has a beautiful baia- restaurant in the sea. The hotel also has an excellent restaurant where you can get delicious grilled fish and good meat. The personnel is really friendly and helpful. The wifi is good, you can stream Netflix without any problems. The terrace offers a beautiful view of Maputo city, which is beautifully illuminated at night. The sunrise is a moment not to miss and offers very “instagrammable” pictures. In general I loved my stay there and I will definitely go back!

I stayed for 3 nights on a business trip. I had to move rooms after the first night as the air conditioner did not work. The rooms I have were otherwise comfortable enough with good net over the bed. There are mozzies about, so that is needed. The location is great, being next to the sea and having it own pier. I think this must have been the quiet season as the hotel was almost empty for the first 2 nights. The beach was quiet, though not a great place to walk as it is littered with huge dead jelly fish. There are good views of the new bridge and the Maputo skyline from the beach though. The real highpoint for me was the food in the restaurant. The seafood was excellent. I would return just for that.

What an oasis! Could not have asked for a better place to base ourselves as we explored Maputo. The hotel has stunning views of the city, and the sound of waves crashing accompanies you wherever you go. The place is made truly special by the people - the staff are so helpful and obliging, and speak great English. Our room was spacious and tasteful, with aircon and sliding doors opening onto a beach terrace. Cool off with your choice of several swimming pools and drinks from the bar. The restaurant has had a recent makeover and is fast becoming a local hit. It’s just a 15 minute drive from Maputo, but feels a world away from any hustle and bustle. Can’t wait to come back!

We had lunch on a day trip to Catembe. Loved the location and the food was good. The waiter service was excellent and we got to walk on the beach :) We did wish we had committed to spending a night in Catembe - the hotel looked very nice and the guests' children were having a great time at the pool.

Me and my partner made a reservation before going. Upon arrival the waiter immediately received/recognized us, recommended a great table (with a view). Although they have a daily menu which is not very extensive, the food was great (we had a mixed seafood dish and garlic bread with cheese). Service was great from the beginning, nice breeze and perfect view. The only thing I wish they intend to do in the future is renovate the restaurant that is right at the beach (reached through the wooden bridge) such a great idea and concept to be just sitting there.

Our stay at Catembe Gallery Hotel was an exceptional experience. It was our second time visiting, as we previously visited in 2016. Since then much has changed and this time the travel there was a breeze as we just drove over the new bridge instead of taking the ferry (which was an experience in itself). When we arrived, we were surprised by the whole new design of the reception area and the bar. We booked via the hotel's own website (would definitely recommend this as you can get a free caipirinha) and stayed in the bayview chalets. The room was cozy and neat and we enjoyed a pleasant night's sleep as all we heard was the peaceful sound of the waves. The food was delicious- we recommend the hotel's specialty: tiger prawns. The new wine cellar was also a nice feature. We were really happy with our stay and hope to return soon!

It was our first (and last) visit to this restaurant. There was no host/hostess upon entering and it took some time to get anyone's attention for a seat (which we could see were available inside). Upon ordering from the limited menu (which we understood since it was New Year's Day), we ordered one of each dish: soup of the day (vegetable), a chicken platter and a fish platter. Our waitress brought our first round of drinks right away, but after that, we sat and waited quite some time for someone to bring the food. Another server delivered the fish and chicken (luke warm), which we were unable to eat because we did not have any silverware. We asked multiple servers to bring the silverware, which someone eventually did. We were midway through our meals when our server returned with the soup of the day (again luke warm) which we assumed had been forgotten (and we didn't really need by this time). We asked repeatedly for the check, but waited 30 minutes before someone brought it. We understand that it was a holiday and that it was a busy time. We were not in a hurry ourselves, but the lack of attention from the on-set should have swayed our decision to stay. If you are looking for great food and quality service, this restaurant is not recommended.

With the opening of the new bridge end of the year, although we had prepared for a full house, it was a ‘Tsunami’ for the restaurant. The whole team did it utmost best to cope, but on peaks we had 300 people in 2 hours for lunch. In one day our restaurant Marisol became the most popular restaurant in the capital. Although most of the guests had a wonderful time, it was impossible to please all. We apologize for the inconvenience and we learn from the situation. We enlarged our kitchen space and equipment and are hiring and training every day. As the happy clients forget to write on Social Media, the impact of some unhappy guests makes directly that your turnover falls to survival mode. It also means that we don’t have any problem anymore to cope with an excess of guests and are back to the situation before the bridge. Luckily we are supported by a loyal and returning clientele that enjoy the stunning views and good and honest food.

Had pre-arranged a shuttle transfer from Airport to Hotel with Hotel, yet upon arrival we waited an hour before contacting the hotel to find out why no shuttle arrived, was told to arrange our own transport because something happened to our driver, after arguing that it was not professional, the hotel sent a bakkie which could not accommodate all 5 of us, resulting in me having to sit on my mothers lap whilst transported to the hotel. Upon arrival at the hotel, no explanation was given and only one of our two rooms was ready. We booked for 5 days in the Luxury Rooms, and in one room I requested an additional bed, which was first a very flat cushion, and after insisting that it was extremely uncomfortable, a bed was arranged in the room. There was no bins in the room, the pillows smelled of perspiration, even though they changed the sheets daily, the shower was lousy as the water trickles ever so slowly. The view is lovely, however the beach does not appear to be swim-able. The restaurant served the dullest buffet breakfasts every morning and does not cater for vegetarians. The dinner meals was absolutely tasteless, as I ordered the fish and it had no spice, salt, pepper or lemon with it. The staff have a very slow paced attitude and were not helpful to arrange any tour or transport properly, despite it being a service of the hotel. The hotel always had no ice in the hottest of weathers and for approximately three of our 5 days, we had power outages, and was told that the staff on duty did not know how to work the generator. The hotel is on Catembe which is very far from any nearby shops or restaurants, so if you don't have a car, it makes it very difficult to do anything. The pool was not treated with chlorine daily, hence the water got milkier everyday we were there. All in all, if comfort and relaxation is what you seek, I highly recommend you book elsewhere.

Dear Guest, Sorry we were not capable of giving you the best service. With the opening of the new bridge end of the year, although we had prepared, it was a ‘Tsunami’ for the restaurant and Murphy for all the rest. The whole district could not cope with the electricity needs, and network burned out our new generator, ice machine, fridges and freezers and UPS and computers. No responsibility of the Electricity provider, and when we just could repair after 2 weeks, they hit us again and more damage was done. It is an ongoing battle with non-existing enabling environment. Their is a reason why we are one of the poorest countries in the world. The opening of the bridge gave way for all government departments to come and do inspections, giving huge fines for whatever reason or because it is end of the year, and labour department put on hold our management and 6 best staff during the end of year period. As owners and rest of the young team we had to take over and did what we could. Luckily it was a temporarily situation and after January we could start to work again on the future. The restaurant and hotel is not so busy anymore, management was allowed to return and new were hired, and it became possible to run as a normal boutique hotel again.
