The hotel is small but very friendly staff win your heart. The seven room hotel is safe for kids as so issue of stairs or elevator. No issue of noise. The room was decent but would have liked a better bathrooom. They arranged for island hopping and snorkelling, sandbank visit. We came back with bag full of memories! The best part is its proximity to the beach.

This is a really nice, clean small 10room hostel. Hussain and he's team were super friendly and will help you with anything you ask for. We had great 4 nights here and really recomend it.
One minus would be the beds and pillows that is very hard but the white sand beach outside the door and the price will make it up for it. Island very small, the locals very friendly. Three tips from me:
1. Make sure you organize transfer from the AirPort before you go. We ended up waiting for several hours due to misscommunictions. Ferry takes 3hrs. Take the speed boat! 2. If you eating at the hotel, pre-book you meal. They do most of the things from scratch, like getting the ingidinent from the store. So takes a while. But food very good and cheap.
3. Make sure you know what you are paying for certain things like snorkling trips etc before you go. We were told the boat cost 50usd and although we were 10 people we ended up paying 25usd for the two of us when check out.

We had an amazing ten days at diffushi, Hussain and Chappay were so friendly made sure we had a relaxing time on the island, beautiful beach with ok snorkelling and a channel so you can snorkel with some big rays, was fun feeding the baby sharks and rays at night, amazing snorkelling reefs within 5-10mins boat ride, whole boat $50 for a couple of hours, good to split between a few people, local guys driving the boat will get in the water with you, likely you can swim with the turtles
Very relaxed island with friendly locals
Sad to leave will be back

Got off ferry to advise our room we had booked many months ago had been given to someone else. Apparently this is a common policy of the hotel. We were offered alternative accomodation accross the street. Room was ok so we accepted when they offered us free lunch and dinner every day as compensation. Food is wonderful 10/10. Incredibly kind and helpful staff 10/10. Unfortunately on closer inspection the bathroom was disgusting. Rusty safety pins left on soap tray for long time, filthy toilet brush in corner etc. We asked for the bathroom to have a thorough clean the next day. We came back from beach and nothing was done despite being told it had been cleaned. That night a vile smell appeared in the bathroom and never left. It was like rotten eggs that stunk the whole place despite windows being opened it would not leave. Utterly horrible. Do Not under any circumstances accept the alternative accomodation. If the hotel decides to give your room to someone else then demand that they either remove this guest or stay elsewhere and complain to booking agent and trip advisor as they do not care about you to give your room to someone else

Quite a cozy hotel not to far from the beach.
However, one of the owners ruins the whole experience. According to most locals, he is all about the money and constantly overbooks; which I sadly became part of. One morning I was suddenly told to move and was evicted and literally put on the street. The owner did not want to refund anything, and made up lie after lie saying he would meet me in "two hours"; "later tonight", then "tomorrow" and so on. I actually had to call the police before he ended up refunding just some of it, however. It just ruined my whole stay in Dhiffushi.

After 8 months of travel this is the only terrible review I have posted.

Booked this property based on the reviews and the look of the common area. We were met by staff at the public ferry dock and soon realized that there were "confirmed" reservations (Agoda & Booking.com) for seven people and only two rooms available. In any country, this is called "BAIT & SWITCH". (The hotel gets you to book a reservation based on pictures and reviews and tries to switch you to an inferior property). After some discussion, we were shown a room at White Sands and then shown a room at Air Dhiffushi (1st Picture). The first room was much better and close to the common area. The second room was at an unstaffed property. We were then offered a room at Rashu Hiyaa (2nd Picture) and 3 free dinners at White Sand Beach Hotel. We agreed to a set menu the first night and dinner of our choice the next two nights.

The staff at this hotel is great. The common area is incredible with a great vibe. From the moment we went back to White Sand Beach Hotel, we were made to feel uncomfortable by the "manager" mentioned above. In fact, he never spoke a word to us our entire stay. We overheard him speaking with another couple and they were worried that they would be billed by both hotels since they had prepaid White Sands. I tried to speak with him on several occasions and was ignored.

We were told that if we wanted fish the second night we had to order it in the morning, which we did. As we sat waiting for dinner, the "manager" asked staff in his native language, "Why are they here?". The man responded in English, "Have Dinner". When it was served, we were told that the small serving of fish would be $10USD per person and that the "manager" had not agreed to the terms offered upon check-in. At that point we declined to pay for the fish and went to another restaurant. We took advantage of the free tea/coffee service a few times and ate breakfast there once. We were offered a "free" fish dinner the third night after we ate breakfast, but declined. Each time the "manager" never acknowledged our prescence or made any attempt to make us feel welcome.
The hardest thing to understand is that we had a reservation at this hotel and the "manager" took it upon himself to make us feel unwelcome even though we were supposed to eat breakfast and dinner there.
Based on other people we met each day, White Sand Beach Hotel is using its reputation to fill other rooms on the island and consistently overbooks the hotel. Under the current circumstances, if you book a room at this hotel, you will be lucky to stay there. To stop the "Bait & Switch", do not accept the first room you are shown at Air Dhiffushi, make sure that the staff puts you at Rashu Hiyaa.
Make sure that White Sands is responsible for the entire bill at Rashu and that the bill is paid before you leave.

Dhiffushi: must visit!

If you want a real Maldivian experience, then you should definitely go there! This is the most authentic village in Maldives. People on this island are so kind, especially the staff from white sand beach hotel.

There are 3 ways to arrive to Dhiffushi island:
Public ferry (2 US dollars), takes about 3 hours, departure from Male
Public speed boat (25 US dollars), takes around 45 minutes, departure from Male
Private spread boat from the hotel, don't remember the price, this one also takes about 45 min, guys will meet you in the airport, this ride is really fun!
In order to get to Male, take the public ferry from the airport to Male and switch to public speed boat or the public ferry.

Once you'll arrive to the island, the stuff will be waiting for you on the beach, even if it's really rainy or storming. They helped us with our luggage. In the hotel, we were served cocktails ( non alcoholic of course) and met all the staff, such a kind people.

Our bed was decorated with honey moon decorations, all made from the flowers that grow in village, it was very romantic! They have a very special design in this hotel, all made of wood, we really loved it!

The staff is so helpful: just ask, they will help you with any question or requirement.

Food: there are some very small supermarkets on the island and 3 coffee shops, I would recommend to order lunch or dinner in the hotel or go to the Faruma restaurant. Oh, don't forget to ask to make your reservation not so spicy, locals love vey very spicy food!
White sand beach hotel has really yummy breakfast, I really loved the Maldivian breakfast: maashuni, the chef in the hotel makes it really good, tried in other places, did not like.
One day we were walking on the villages and bought a fresh fish from some local guy, the chef grilled the hole fish for us with some vegetables aside, it was a real delicious. You may also join the fishing activities and ask to grill the fish in the hotel, really recommend to do that.
Ah, almost forgot, try the coconut! It's amazing and after you finish don't forget to ask the waiter to cut it open and eat the inside, he will serve it with honey, real yummy .

The beach is very close allocated to the hotel, 10 steps and you are there, no need to ask the staff, your sun beds are already there! They will show you around.
The beach is beautiful, clean and the coral reef is amazing! Go around the 2 concrete squares in the sea and you'll find there a lot of fishes, they are really beautiful!

One of the guys, Mio feeds stingrays and baby sharks almost every evening, this is really exiting, they are so close to you! Just ask Mio to update you when he is planning to feed them and join him.

The staff made us feel at home, as a part of their family. On the day of our leaving it was very stormy, we went with the speedboat from the hotel, after 10 minutes, the captain decided to turn around and to go back to the islands caring for our safety , after that they arranged for us bigger boat. The staff was so cared to deliver us to our next location. We are very thankful.

The white sand beach hotel offers vary activities for affordable prices. The turtle point snorkeling is a must!

To summarize, we would defiantly go back there!

Thank you for making our honeymoon unforgettable!

This is a nice guesthouse not hotel. It was newer clean and very friendly. When I booked I thought it was a hotel where I could be separate and didn't have to deal with strangers......but I'm glad this experience made me try something new.The people that work there are great! The rooms are nothing fancy, but clean. The sink and shower water smell funky and is salty on the whole island. I tried 3 different guesthouses ,all the same water. Plenty of bottled water available. My husband and I stayed 12 days and about halfway through my son and fiancé came to surprise us. They booked at the same guesthouse but as I came to find out, they were overbooked and this happened quite a bit. The problem was in Male and the third party booking sites. But Hussain made up for it . He found other rooms on the island at Bibee and Local Adventure(which I wouldn't recommend ) .He also set them up with excursions and meals. The only true hotel on the island is Rashu Hiyaa. Everything else is a guesthouse. White sands had amazing deals for excursions! We did something everyday. We had free breakfast included, which we only had a few days. Typical toast, jelly, egg and hot dog for the island. No fault of the cook, but they just try to it suitable for general clientele. We decided to go to the other end of the island at Cozy Cafe where you can get very spicy local cuisine. Lunches and dinner were great at White Sands. I highly recommend the special Maldivian salad. I had it every night, yummy!! The locals are friendly and we had time to talk and get to know people. I made some new friends with other guesthouse patrons and people that live on the island. The beach is very small and fiday afternoon the locals use it too. Don't go to picnic island the last friday of the month, that's also a busy time with locals. We enjoyed a visit to a Safari boat which served drinks and to other small non resort islands and the sand bank. We could see Meeru across the water but were not allowed day passes from them. There was some trash on the island, but not tremendous amounts. Snorkeling was even good from the beach. We enjoyed our long stay, but most people only stay a week here .

They offer the usual tours like dolphin watching and sandbank excursions etc. Meeru island is a private resort which doesn’t allow external guests
Answer from Krystel C

Unless you pay 300€ for a private speedboat.. the best option if you arrive at night is to stay in Male and leave the next day. You can take a ferry for 3$ aprox but it takes 3hours to get to dhiffushi. I suggest you to take the public speedboat. It will cost you 25$ per pax and it takes only 45 mins to get to the island.

Are bikinis allowed? And is alcohol served here?
Answer from Jimmyr74
5 contributions2 helpful votes
No alcohol, but you can organise a day trip to one of the resort islands to drink booze. Or, every couple of days a booze boat will come by where you can purchase drinks. Bikinis are permissible on the bikini beach, which is by far the best beach and is right out front of the hotel.
