I AM a regular visitor to the Maldives and have been travelling there for the last 27 years and treat it as my second home for my best friend, Ahmed live there as the owner of this resort. When I first started in 1987 was exploring for a new business when my contracts in Singapore ends and it was the... More

The most beautiful place you can find. Fantastic hospitality, a reef you can walk out to, swimming in an aquarium - in effect! Peace, tranquility. There is a dive centre, an unspeakably beautiful beach, glorious sea, canoes to use an open air restaurant - or undercover if too hot, with fantastic fresh food. Admirably served with minimal waste (ie as... More

This is the third time in Maldives and third time in asdu. The service is not extraordinary neither the rooms nor the food but in asdu I feel to be the king of my own island. In fact there are never more then 20 guests most of them coming year after year as where else you can do a complete... More

Absolutely stunning location- a picture perfect postcard. Stayed here for Christmas and whilst it was an incredibly beautiful location it was mind numbingly boring. Eating at the same table every night in the same seat with the same waiter was just too much to bear! Perhaps ok for a chill out week but certainly not for two. The spa however... More

Asdu Sun Island is approx 300 metres long and 100 wide - yes, that's right. So, if you're expecting special amenities, luxury and entertainment every night, this is not the place for you BUT think twice. Asdu is absolutely breathtakingingly beautiful, natural, with lush vegetation, bright coloured flowers, pending palm trees and tiny tiny coves of the most heavenly coloured... More

I decided to give this place a go cancelling one of my previously booked days in Male', after spending 3 nights at a close by village island. Previously I have decided not to stay in a resort island mainly due to its high prices and the lack of interesting things to do other than lying on the beach. Stayed here... More

We just returned from 9 days at Asdu. I travelled with my retired mum. I had read so many questionable reviews that I really didn't have too high expectations. What I don't understand, are the negative comments about food. I am a relatively picky eater and don't eat meat, but I was happy with all of the meals, except maybe... More

Summarise all the other reviews and you get Asdu. Yes ants, birds occasionally, cold showers but actually very refreshing, basic simple food and owners who lord over things at times, witness the family with a young daughter who lost their high chair a couple of mealtimes. Little things they could do better like serve you coffee at 6 am when... More

The real problem were not the out of proportion ants in the room, the lack of sun chairs, the taste-killed food, the extra paid for wifi illusion, the doubtful hygienic circumstances, the Hitchcock like screaming birds at 4 am. Or the ever returning fish meal, the relatively costly and mildly engaging diving experience, the Guantanamo-like quality of the extra bed.... More

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
Asdu is probably the smallest resort in the Maldives with an affordable price, apart from just one other more luxurious resort. This is by no means the cheapest resort. You may find other larger resorts of equal standard or of even better facilities with lower prices. We believe the small size of the Island ensures a certain degree of exclusivity, well worth the price we quote to our prospective guests. But we assure you that we have maintained a very consistent price structure over the last 10 years. This Island is especially ideal for those who love to be in a natural setting and prefer simplicity and informality on their vacation. Although the facilities are not deluxe, they are more than adequate and comfortable. ... more   less

“Rooms in the back (ca. 120-132) are quiet, but don't have direct access to the beach. Rooms 101-106(?) are in front of the beach but next to the generator. The beach front rooms (112 etc) have access to the beach but are often requested by repeat guests. We stayed in 128 and were happy. It was quiet and people did not walk in front of our door.”
