Nestled in a picturesque setting, the Sun Siyam Olhuveli is regularly celebrated for its clean, well-appointed rooms and the exceptional service provided by its staff, who are commended for their attention to detail. While the amenities and location receive high marks for their quality and beauty, some guests have noted issues with noise and misleading 'all-inclusive' packages that may include unexpected costs. Despite these concerns, the hotel's atmosphere, characterized by live music and serene vibes, contributes to an overall positive experience for many travelers.

The resort is really of the highest level, beautiful room with tidying up and changing shower towels even 2 times a day, an infinite amount of towels for the sea and pool, you could find them everywhere and you could use them indefinitely, flavored water everywhere, even in the room. From our room we went down to the sea in an area where they had rebuilt a reef, it is artificial but still spectacular because every day I found the turtle, the sharks, the ray. The room water villa 550 was definitely in one of the best areas, also because near the restaurant, we were lucky!!! the rooms on the beach overlooked a sort of lagoon where definitely bathing was uglier. The resort was big but with the buggies (buses) passing every 5 minutes and taking you everywhere. The international food but huge buffet with sushi and water included, honestly be served water every 5 seconds I had never found, all the waiters of a unique kindness that I would have liked to tip everyone! The manta ray show in the evening was really nice. Overall the resort seemed empty with many uninhabited parts, they are doing major renovations but we had no discomfort because they were far from our room and the services we needed, maybe if we had the room on the beach in the area adjacent to the works was different, however they were all covered by branches that did not show you anything!
The only negative things:
cost of anything extra ... exaggerated, to do a morning-only excursion to the sharks there was nothing less than 600 dollars in 4, to do a different dinner 130 dollars extra per person, to do a massage 200 dollars, very high prices for everything. Also what I expected was an animation for the boys (8/14 years) a little more present, instead it was only for very young children, we had problems finding a ball and anyway they did not like to play there! And most of the island was adult only! In one of the 3 islands just children could not enter and consequently all the shows and bars / pools we played them too and in the 2 main islands we could only use 2 of the 5 pools... honestly we felt a bit ghettoized! The idea is that you were just there for relaxation, luckily the guys enjoyed snorkeling, but 5 days would have been enough!
Anyway it was an unforgettable experience for everyone!

We are a returning family, having visited in 2023 with hopes of recreating the greatest holiday we ever had and leaving behind the endless grey skies of the UK. I wanted to leave a review last year but felt that words were inadequate to describe the feeling this place gives to you, but after much thought and family tears on leaving I realised that it was the combination of the dreamlike natural beauty (which can be seen in photographs) and the incredible people who work so hard to make you feel special, so, with that in mind I will refer to individuals (and animals) who made our holiday so special and memorable, and review the things we did that were free to do.

Getting there

We arrived in the capital Male at 9:00AM and after going through airport security we made our way to arrivals, where a represented of Sun Siyam Olhuveli warmly met us. He kindly took our suitcases and informed us of the details of our transfer to Olhuveli, which was to be by speedboat. Our wait was a relatively short 35 mins which allowed us just enough time to use the bathroom, and to grab a drink. Once the boat transfer was ready, we were escorted across to the harbour and issued a life jacket each, whilst our luggage was loaded on. Now that the preliminaries were out of the way we could take our seats and truly begin our relaxation, an enjoyable 45 min trip ensued that took in some beautiful views. It was that easy. As the island came into view, we readied ourselves and finally upon docking we could hear the traditional drum beat that welcomes visitors. We ascended the steps in file and were adorned by the Islanders with a wooden carved Stingray necklace to the sound of rhythmic drums.

Our concierge

We were lucky enough to be assigned Ippu as our concierge, who, after leaving the boat greeted us with a ‘Welcome home!’. She asked to meet us at the Lagoon bar to go through the details of our time on the Island and to answer any questions that we may have had. She was thorough, a brilliant communicator and a vivacious personality. We had a lovely chat about our previous visit, about what had changed, and what was new. She also introduced us to using the new Olhuveli app, which includes your day to day itinerary and the ability to book restaurants, excursions, and more. Ippu then gave us her contact number in case we needed help at any time. She arranged for our suitcases to be delivered to our water villa and provided our key card for our room.

Our Grande Water Villa

On arrival to our Grande Water Villa, we were pleasantly surprised by a note from the manager welcoming us back, nestled next to a bottle of wine, and a message adorned with palm leaf lettering onto our bed. Our villa was a large open plan living space, enough for a comfortable double bed and two single beds, one of which was set into an alcove. Storage space was good with fitted wardrobes and a dresser with a stylish modern chair. In this area stood a mini bar that was restocked daily, a tea/coffee making facility and 4 bottles of fresh water that were also replenished each day. Inside the wardrobe were four life jackets, which I thought was a nice addition if you are not confident in the water but want to swim from your deck. The room had a high ceiling giving that feeling of space and had a good air conditioning system, that, on some days was a welcoming relief. Wi-Fi comes as standard and we experienced no issues at all with network speed. There are USB plugs fitted into the headboard which makes charging your devices simple and lastly a large TV. Our villa was kept immaculately clean by our room attendant Bashir, he always greeted us with a warm smile, asked us about our day and at every opportunity would decorate our beds with new art or a message created from palm leaves. French doors opened out onto our stunning deck, which had steps leading down into the crystal clear ocean. The deck had Two sunbeds, two chairs and a table for relaxing, complete with a generous roof overhang for shade whilst enjoying unspoilt views all the way to the horizon. Finally, the bathroom was situated to the rear of the villa behind a double sliding glass door, we found the room spacious and modern using quality fixtures and fittings and privacy glass for dividing the toilet and shower. Overall, we were very happy with the setup, we all reported having incredibly deep sleeps and vivid dreams. To wake in the morning and walk out onto your own private balcony looking out at uninterrupted ocean should be prescribed as a medication. I can honestly say that I have never in my life experienced such contentment and deep relaxation.

Getting around:

The entire Island is easily walkable, but there is also a small electric bus service that reaches a stop every 15 minutes, we would regularly use the Bus to get to the furthest point of the island during the heat of the day and at night we would prefer to walk in the cooler air, sometimes bumping into Azra Taj, who would help us take photos and stop for a nice chat. Trips on the bus were another highlight especially when we had Daman as our driver who would play some great music for our entertainment and on one occasion a Sun Parakeet flew parallel to the bus and landed onto Daman, who then passed him onto my finger so that we could exchange whistles!

The Food:

There are an abundance of places to eat on the Island for families catering for all tastes and requirements, from Maghrib Grill, Barbequed Seafood and meat, Namaste, Restaurant for lovers of Indian cuisine and a handy Island Pizza restaurant/takeaway that also serves Sandwiches and burgers. The latter we found especially useful upon our first day as we had had a very long flight and were so tired that we just wanted a quick snack delivered to the room. The pizza itself was excellent, fresh dough, lots of cheese and big slices of fresh tomatoes with a side of fries were just the thing needed to help us over the line from our long travel. As we wanted to keep things simple with our two boys, we stayed exclusively with the buffet Restaurant ‘Malaafaiy’. Here you will find a wide range of excellent quality food and restaurant staff who go above and beyond in providing service to their guests. We were so happy with Malaafaiy, that going elsewhere was not needed, although the wide variety of restaurant options will appeal to people who want a regular change of view and atmosphere. The layout of Malaafaiy is very spacious and open, highlighting the natural views of outside through the panoramic openings of the French doors and columns that allow a gentle breeze to flow through. The seating area floor is of soft sand and the centre area where the food is presented is of a smooth porcelain tile, light, modern and spotless.
Our days became structured around breakfast 7:30-10:00 Lunch 12:30-14:30 and Dinner 18:30-21:00, becoming quite quickly some of the highlights of our stay. For example, I would quite often have, in my humble opinion, the worlds best omelette for breakfast, not only in taste but also in the enjoyment of watching the performance of Prodip who would effortlessly make delicious fluffy omelettes to your flavouring over two very hot hobs, it was like watching a DJ spin discs with two chopsticks. My son asked Prodip if he could film him in action on our last day, in the very vague hopes of recreating the omelette at home. The choice on offer for each sitting was overwhelming, there was something to suit Continental tastes, British/Irish tastes, Asian and many others including vegetarian options. Many of the items were self-serve consisting of curries, pasta dishes, stews and casseroles, risotto, and there were also cooking stations that would make you a dish to your requirement, for example, pasta, noodles, eggs, sushi, fresh crepes fresh waffles to name but a few. All were supplemented with an abundant salad bar, hor d’oeurvres and deserts section, the latter including freshly cut fruits that were artistically sliced and served by Emran who would always produce a colourful and exotic platter for our table to enjoy. A very special mention goes out to our table waiter Balaso Doltade, who, is one of the most well-mannered, positive and hardworking people we have ever known. Balaso is a credit to Sun Siyam Olhuveli and certainly one of the biggest reasons we made this return visit. Knowing the calibre of people who work there was influential in our decision to return. He tended our table everyday with warmth, generosity, and humour. He even managed to influence my two children to try new foods and drinks, getting them to leave their comfort zones with a smile on their faces.

Repeaters Cruise:

As we were returning Guests we were offered a cruise, free of charge, to watch a sunset with complimentary champagne which, we duly took up. We made our way to the divers Centre to board the boat where a lady called Kseniia (who I recognised from earlier that week as the person who stopped to kindly offer us a lift back to our villa) warmly welcomed us back and hoped that we would enjoy the cruise as a thank you for returning. She waved us off as we made our way up onto the roof of the boat and took to our seats. As we left the Island and approached the setting sun, Ippu came to ask us all how things were going on our return and then offered to take our picture (which ended up being my favourite of the holiday!). Overall, it was a numinous experience, it felt special and is one of the things I will remember most fondly. Another nice moment came when we had left the boat, Ippu introduced us to her husband Son, who is the manager at the Dive Centre, and we had a chat about their work on the Island, and about things they had done and hoped to do in the future. Son spoke to my two boys enthusiastically about the sea life that they had seen, my boys had asked about a blue starfish they had found whilst snorkelling, to which Son explained in great detail, why it was not good for the reef and why you shouldn’t attempt to remove it because of its method of reproduction. It was really pleasing to see someone so enthusiastic about the surrounding life and to fixate my boy’s attention so much, that they are still talking about it, and are actively reading up on all the marine life that they captured on their cameras. Son and I also spoke about how dark the night sky was and that we were not used to seeing so many stars at home due to light pollution, we agreed between us that it would be an amazing excursion to have an Island with a small observatory for visitors who are just as amazed at the night sky in these parts. It is something the Island could offer in the future perhaps.

Dolphin Cruise:

Having done this cruise the previous year we opted to do it again. You are informed in the briefing that there is only a 50% chance of seeing dolphins, as it happened, we were lucky enough to see quite a display, (as we did the previous year) with dolphins only metres away doing all kinds of somersaults and flips for what seemed quite a time. It is a wonderful experience to see Dolphins being so playful and displaying their obvious intelligence.

Snorkelling:

One of the most satisfying things for us to do as a family was snorkelling. A great aspect of the resort is that you do not have to have your own gear as you can be loaned flippers and a mask on arrival to the Dive Centre. This Island has the most diverse array of marine life and the clearest warm waters to make snorkelling such an enjoyable recreation. You are, for all intents and purposes visiting an alien world, it is almost a sensory overload, but truly astonishing. We took an action camera with us and filmed endless footage of marine life, from Trigger fish, Moray eels, Octopus, black tip Sharks, Puffer fish, Parrot fish, Corals, to our absolute favourite an endangered Hawksbill Turtle named Olivia. To note, if you are fair skinned its worth wearing a rash vest whilst doing this to protect your skin from the powerful sun here.
Kayaking and Paddle Boarding: You can book for an hour every day the use of a Kayak or a Paddle Board at no charge. They can be found located on the beach just in front of the Sunrise bar, before you take your slot you must visit the Water Sport centre just around the corner, to sign yourself in and to collect your oars. We booked this activity numerous times, my boys found the Paddle Board in particular a lot of good fun and the Kayaks were a great way to drift and relax in the middle of paradise.

Manta Ray:

At night time after Dinner we developed something of a ritual in walking to the end of the jetty near the dive centre. There is an illuminated deck called Manta Point and if you sit there and wait you may be lucky enough to see a giant Manta pass by, there are of course other marine creatures to see also. We managed to see the Manta on all occasions except once, an experience well worth doing and an enjoyable way to end your night.

Entertainment:

Around the Island, you will find good live music and DJ sets, and depending on the time of year calendar events take place, for instance, while we were there, Diwali and Halloween were being celebrated, for Diwali there was extensive music and dancing, and a scary tunnel walk production for Halloween with Scary looking life size figures.

Issues:

Fortunately, the only issue we had was a faulty door lock that was fixed within 20 minutes of reporting. Our friendly driver Jahidul helped to sort out an engineer to replace the batteries on the lock and because we were late to get somewhere he offered to escort us so that we did not lose any more time. Another thing I would like to have seen more influence of is authentic Maldivian music and perhaps a nod to its history.

In conclusion this is the perfect place for a dream family holiday, there is nothing close that we have ever experienced but as I alluded to earlier, it is the people here who take it to the next level. I was genuinely happy with the stunning beauty of the Island and surrounding water alone to expect anymore, but the team here are exceptionally warm, friendly, honest, and very funny. The time unfortunately came to board our return boat, and, as they did the traditional clap to send us off, all four of us were in tears! But, we will return!

We were at the Sun Siyam Olhuveli hotel from 11/24 to 12/02

For the first time in the Maldives, I was most impressed by the flora and fauna of the island, I liked the house reef. Every day we snorkeled, swam with turtles, sharks, octopuses, stingrays, and saw many different fish. Every day, manta rays swam to the pier to feast on plankton. This is an amazing sight!!!

We saw how a flying fox feasts on the nectar of flowers, how a heron hunts fish, how crabs fight over their sandy houses...

Overall, we're delighted. We can say about the hotel that we liked everything. We took FB, the food is tasty and varied. There were rolls, seafood, various soups (once even Russian solyanka), several types of meat and fish, side dishes, salads, appetizers, desserts... there was a separate table with Indian dishes. The fruits are not always ripe, but we came across very juicy papaya and pineapple.

The staff is friendly and attentive, remembering your drink preferences. The room was cleaned frequently, sometimes towels were changed several times a day and water was brought.

In terms of infrastructure, we had enough of everything; we only rented SUPs and a walk with dolphins at sunset.

Of the minuses, I would like to note a rather meager selection in the souvenir shop at fabulous prices! Magnets from $12!

The SPA is also quite expensive, massage 60 min $153

Bicycles are only available on Romance Island, but we never got to them because we were snorkeling every day.

I think that for the first time and for a family vacation this is an excellent option. I can’t imagine what else could be better (except perhaps a more lively reef, there are few living corals on this one)

Chef Satya - he catered fully to our pure vegetarian dietary requirements, went out of his way to come and check the food was to our liking.
Sumon - room cleaner and room attendant - Sumon went out of his way to ensure our room was cleaned to the highest standard twice a day, he always came to check if we needed any additional toiletries. The room was always decorated immaculately and to perfection.
Hemant and Bipen waiters in the restaurant - they always came to set our table and serve our drinks. They always greeted us with a warm smile. Truly professional service

Our holiday in the Maldives recently ended, a beautiful place, well looked after, surrounded by nature so if you come here know that it's you and the sea. The atolls are easily connected to each other thanks to electric buses that are always in motion, but it is beautiful to walk as it is all sand. At the reception ask for Helena, she speaks excellent Italian and explains what your stay will be like. Spotlessly clean rooms, they even come by 2/3 times a day to ask if you need cleaning, restaurant for breakfast/lunch well stocked obviously the cuisine is a little different from ours but all in all don't go hungry. There is Shaun who can also recommend some different evenings, such as free lobster or Thai but for a fee. The sea is wonderful, you can admire the variety of fish, see the sharks or the manta rays, beautiful!! What to add, come and enjoy this paradise.

30th wedding anniversary celebration

We booked an eleven night stay from 30th December on premium all inclusive dine around, staying in a grand water villa. Prior to arriving I emailed and asked whether I could arrange and pay for flowers and champagne in the room, but all I ever received was a standard reply which wasn’t helpful and never got fulfilled.

You are greeted as soon as you come out of arrivals by Sun Sitam representatives and are shown to the speedboat transfer. The speedboat transfer is “interesting”, and will certainly wake you up after your long haul flight !.

The check-in process; general information about what’s on in resort, as well as booking restaurants (Maghrib grill, Namaste and Siyam Orchid), is done via the Sun Siyam App.

The two islands are kept spotless; the staff are a credit to the brand, in general the staff are very pleasant and helpful. As with all resorts we found Samson (room attendant), Amaiir (Malaafaiy), Nana and Bischaan in the Dream bar exemplary.

Getting around the island is easy enough on foot, but there are several buses / extended golf carts that silently pick you up / drop you off in multiple locations.

There was a good range of evening entertainment available if you wanted it, and New Year’s Eve was particularly well organised.

The food offerings are very good from Malaafaiy for breakfast, lunch & dinner and can be mixed up at lunchtime with Island pizza and Dream bar (a word of caution on Dream bar, anything taken for lunch here is chargeable even with the premium all inclusive fine around package which isn’t clear why !).

The three premium restaurants for dinner namely Maghrib, Namaste and Siyam Orchid were very good, (the Siyam Orchid service was extremely slow on both occasions however).

The Ocean spa was again very good, and was well worth the treat.

We also booked the floating platform dinner; the service and food were very good, (the only thing to watch out for here is the charges for bottle beer - again disappointing when you e paid heavily for premium all inclusive fine around)

The grand water villa was a good choice; nicely appointed, great view and kept clean / tidy / replenished by our room attendant Samson.

We would definetly recommend the Maldives, and this particular resort.

The four of us vacationed in this hotel with two children aged 11 and 6 years old, we stayed in a villa with a pool, which is located on Dream Island, number 642. The location is good - there is a sufficient amount of vegetation, so it is not so hot, entry into the ocean and a picturesque stone embankment, where people come to take photos. When entering the water, you need to overcome the corals washed ashore (you can take rubber shoes), but then there is good depth and an exciting ocean. On the main island it seemed a little shallow and the water in the lagoon was a little stagnant.
I snorkeled - if you swim further away, you can find beautiful small and large fish and even stingrays lying in the sand, and if you’re lucky, you can meet a turtle.
The food is good: they gave us octopus, shrimp, salmon steak, etc. There is a station where they make salads in front of you. The fruit is not bad, but the passion fruit is not sweet.
The whole family went to the spa; the kids also got a massage; it was a great experience. On Dream Island, the spa is located in water villas, which have a glass floor where you can lie down and watch the fish swim by.
In the evening you can take a buggy to the main island, where it’s a little more fun. Buggy runs frequently. Or stay in a bar on Dream Island and have a great time relaxing.
On the downside: every evening at 6 p.m. the island was treated with a fog of chemicals that literally enveloped everything. But apparently this is a necessary measure and it’s probably better to be patient in the room at this time than to be bitten by someone unknown.
The price/quality ratio meets expectations, which is probably why this hotel is often sold out in advance. We would come back🩷

At first very good experience, I like the briefing you had with your contact person, the welcome and all the kindness.
The stay could feel a bit messy and the all inclusive menu soon becomes boring and boring. The contact with the contact person worked partly well but also quite poorly, however, we feel that it has been difficult to get help when calling the reception who have not been so helpful all the time. I prefer all restaurants to be included in all inclusive but that was not the case which was sad. The bungalow was amazing but somewhat worn and I bothered myself that the ladder down to the sea did not go all the way down which made it very difficult to climb down but above all climb up, especially when it was low tide. The cleaning was first class and I like the thoughtfulness of the cleaners and all the handwritten little notes. Big minus was a couple of restaurants that delivered mediocre food. We were promised some things because it was our honeymoon that was not kept which was annoying.
What we annoyed us the most apart from the high prices was that all prices would be plus on 26% tax and service fee which should stand from the beginning, I can and moon with me be angry about. Write the full price and do not fool your customers.
A sunscreen costs $72 + tax.
We went out on a pretty useless whale shark safari for almost 900 dollars, except that it was hysterical, the water was not very snorkeling friendly everything was basically brown and there was not much to see, the food on the tour was really bad.

The islands are magical and the coziness factor high.
Another annoying factor is that the check-out is at noon and the boat to the flight leaves at 4 pm, we were not allowed to extend our stay in the bungalow or anywhere else so you are basically completely stranded for several hours which is ill thought out.

We will definitely come back but then we will change hotel

My life dream of staying in an overwater cottage came true, and I had the most amazing experience. The blue sky, white sand, crystal clear sea, and many colorful fishes were a paradise on earth. It was an experience like that. The illuminated sea and cottages, the tropical night roads lit up with lights here and there, and the view of the horizon from the cottage were all experiences beyond my imagination. I still want to go back.

Below, I hope it will be helpful.

My family of four (parents and two elementary school children) stayed in an overwater cottage with a pool for four nights.
The overwater cottage with a pool takes 10 to 15 minutes by buggy from the reception, so walking is not possible. If you are prepared for the sun and rain and have no luggage, it is barely possible.
There are times when you cannot get on the buggy due to the number of people, so it is a good idea to travel with plenty of time.
In particular, since the diving center is at the pier, you need to move to rent and return snorkeling equipment, and the best snorkeling spots are around the diving center.
You download the app when you arrive, so you can book experiences and tours through the app. We were late in noticing and missed it. You can also chat with the hotel, so you might be able to ask for a buggy. The app is translated into Japanese, so it was pretty easy to use.

The refrigerator in the room barely cools, and it's small, so you can't put anything in it. Water is refilled in glass bottles, but it doesn't cool. There is no ice.

Two types of towels are provided, bath towels and beach towels, so you can just take a beach towel to the pool or beach. There are also face towels.
Towels are changed, the room is cleaned, and water is refilled twice a day, but most of the time you only need to do it once. They occasionally changed the towels.

I saw only one mosquito during my four nights, so there are hardly any bugs. They didn't seem to be gathering around the night lights.

They could barely speak English, but you can communicate with them using the translator on your smartphone, so there's no need to worry. WiFi works fine in the room. Be careful, as it cuts out slightly in the restaurant.

There are almost no souvenirs. The airport has the same items as those sold in the hotel shop, so I recommend buying them there.

The waiters and cleaners at the restaurant are always smiling, but everyone else generally doesn't.

However, they are very kind. Basically, they will listen to any requests you have and will tell you if you ask, so by the end I've gotten used to it.

They don't speak Japanese. There are no Japanese-speaking staff.

Although in June we have been hit with some showers, the Island is very well prepared and we still got a lot of sunshine. The upkeep of the island is fantastic and the people are very happy and friendly, we are in love with this island resort!

Hana was our island host, she has been superb, and has been easily contactable and responsive throughout our stay answering all our questions, solving any issues we had, and also getting us booked in for things like the spa. She quickly got the housekeeping team to help us out when we needed someone to rescue clothes we left on the balcony of our room when it was very windy day. She very kindly organised a honeymoon treat for us which amazing, a cherry on top of our stay! Thank you for everything Hana, we absolutely could not have asked for a better host, we are very lucky! ☺️

We had the best dinner at Siyam Orchid. We were very happily surprised as it was the best Thai food we have ever eaten, especially the salted egg prawn curry dish. Thanks to Sifou, Akash for hosting and Khaled and Chef Usman for making the delicious food in the kitchen!

We also met Ridma and her team Zain, Rohita at Island Pizza for our honeymoon dinner. She was a superb, very friendly and attentive. We were well looked after and the service was brilliant!

It was the most perfect honeymoon, and we can’t wait to be back!
