We stayed 5 days in Kupu Kupu Garden. The welcoming was very warm. The hotel is the most gorgeous in Bukit Lawang, not to close to the village and not to far away to walk. When you look for something nice and quiet in the nature then you'll be right at Jeff and Su's place. Both are really good hosts....

Kupu Kupu Garden is a tropical paradise….everything here is beautiful: the view, the rooms, the friendly hosts, the butterflies, the food, the river and the refreshing swims. The place shows a lot of attention to detail in every way. The view of the national park is truly breathtaking and it is so relaxing to just lay in the hammock on...

This place is a little further up the river which makes it a little more difficult to reach, but once there you really stay in the jungle with all comfort around you. Chill out in your hammock and watch the monkeys, or if you are lucky, the orangutans. Food is okay too, try the mie buah

Kupu Kupu is a wonderful guest house located in an idyllic and quiet setting along the river (20 min walk from the village). Jeff and his team are incredibly hospitable and friendly and planned a number of great activities for us. Room: We stayed in the Orangutan room, which was basic, spacious and very clean (particularly considering it's in the...

From the first email contact, Jeff and Su set my expectations for a thoughtful, helpful and easy stay. On arrival to the Bukit Lawang village, the guide/porter/general helper Arif was on hand to guide me along the river path to the oasis that is Kupu Kupu (Butterfly in Bahasa Indonesia - and the guesthouse garden is a haven for butterflies!)...

I was so looking forward to my stay in the jungle and at Kupu-Kupu. Being met at the airport by a private car, organised by Su and Jeff, was certainly a positive start to my holiday. I wasn't sure what to expect but I was overwhelmed by the greetings from Su and Jeff. The spacious orang-utan room was divine and...

We stayed in Kupu Kupu Garden 2 nights before and 1 night after our trek in the jungle. After a long journey from Lake Toba we were welcomed with open arms by Sue and Jeff. We felt so welcome at Kupu Kupu. Jeff and Sue have put in so much effort to make the place beautiful. We were content there and really, for what you get, it's cheap. Gorgeous outside shower amongst the rainforest. There are some nice swimming spots on the river just outside their place too. Just be aware the electricity is only...

Kupu-Kupu Garden is the perfect place if you want to have a relaxing and quiet stay in Bukit Lawang!!! It is a bit secluded, 15 mins walk from the village, 30ins from the drop off point but it is a super nice walk along the river. Once you arrive, you will be welcomed by Om Jeff and Su who are...

Me and my girlfriend passed this placed on our way back from a jungle trek and simply HAD to check it out. After having a look, we spontaneously decided to leave our hotel the next day and spend the rest of our stay in Kupu Kupu Garden. This is just how good the first impression was. The place is located...

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
Kupu-Kupu (butterfly) Garden Guest House & Cafe is an eco-friendly retreat located approximately 2 km from the small village of Bukit Lawang (gate way to the hills) in North Sumatra, Indonesia. It is situated in a tranquil location surrounded by lush tropical rainforest with sixty metres of river frontage and a natural spring waterfall that flows down one side of the land. In the front is the Bohorok River, a fresh, clean, flowing river and opposite is the Gunung Leuser National Park, over 1,000,000 hectares of UNESCO world heritage listed National Park, home to the endangered Sumatran Orangutan and other amazing wildlife and plants. Kupu-kupu Garden Guesthouse & Cafe - how to get there? When you arrive in the Bukit Lawang village, stay on the right side of the river and walk up the paved path for about 30 minutes. You will pass by an assortment of shops, guesthouses and restaurants. From Bukit Lawang's upper-river tourist village's last guesthouse "Jungle Inn", leave the motor bikes behind you and, enjoy the tranquil 10 minute walk along a picturesque jungle river track. After passing by three refreshing waterfalls you will soon discover the peacefulness of Kupu-Kupu Garden, where you can relax to the sounds of the flowing Bohorok River and Mt Lueser National Park. You can relish the comfort of the rustic, creatively designed guesthouse and lush jungle-style garden. From the cafe and guesthouse balconies you will capture the magnificent views of river life and the surrounding tropical rainforest. Laze about in hammocks or sit back in the lazy-chairs, swim in the river, indulge in the exotic flavours of Indonesian cuisine and drink an iced cold local beer "Bintang"! The entrance to the Orangutan feeding platform is only a 10 minute walk from Kupu-kupu Garden. Jeff can organise and book transport, jungle trekking tours, local agriculture and cottage industry tours and assist with planning other travel destinations.
