We spent one night in one of the hostel rooms/cabins. I couldn't find any online reviews of the hostel before we left so will post this here as it's the same organisation as the hotel and will hopefully help others decide where to stay. The boat lands at the South Jetty. The hostel reception is a minute from there, the... More

This is a review of Grinda and the hotel restaurant, not an overnight stay Grinda is an example of PR and Marketing being used to wildly over promote a place. When we arrived in Grinda, people were unfriendly, food was wildly over priced and restaurant was unclean with very poor quality food. The Canoe rental (widely promoted in the literature)... More

Grinda has a great location in the archipelago, within reach for daytrippers from the city. But so is Waxholm, Sandhamn and many smaller islands. Anyway, we tried Grinda, a sunny day in May. Our first encounter was to pay for arriving with our own boat, even if we didn't now for how long. Heartly welcome, first rip-off as you step... More

We were group of 12 people and stayed here from August 21st through the 23rd. This business trip was organized by Fredrik Pahlett...I must admit he could not make a better choice: you reach the island by boat (about 1,5 hours from Stockholm) and the scenario is beautiful. You don't feel to stay in a hotel, but actually it seems... More

I loved this hotel.. It is set on a sort of small national park island in the Stockholm archipelago. The setting is particularly peaceful & pretty. There are some lovely short walks & plenty of places to sit & enjoy the views. Rooms are sort of basic, but still have all the essentials. It was comfortable for me. The restaurant... More

We stayed in the cabins on Grinda on Friday and Saturday night, 28th and 29th August. The Friday was fine. On the Saturday evening we, two females, returned to our cabin, no.24, to find that 20 + men in a large party group had been booked in to cabins 22, 23 and 25, therefore completely surrounding us. We did call... More

For full disclosure, I worked here one summer about ten years ago. This is a nice daytrip. Get on the boat, come out here, walk around the island, maybe take a swim (there's a VERY small beach), and eat at the restaurant. Or stay overnight and enjoy two days on the island. It's a good idea to book ahead even... More

Grinda is a beautiful island in the Stockholm archipelago. There is only one way to get there - by ferry. From Stockholm about a 2 hour ride. Great trip. Accommodation on the island consists of cabins, a hostel and one hotel - Grinda Wardshus. By the way - take the least amount of liggage possible, it is almost 1 kilometre... More

Grinda Wardshus is located on one of the many islands surrounding Stockholm. You can get there either by ferry (approx.. 2 hrs from Stockholm) or with your own boat. The island is rather tiny and remote. There are no bridges or roads that would connect it to anything else. You may not book a seat on the ferries in advance,... More

We just stayed here for one night and were pleasantly surprised with the friendliness of staff which is a bit rare in other places in the archipelago. Grind is a wonderful place to give a controlled experience of the archipelago to any international visitor. So we did this together with my in-laws and they were impressed. The Wardshus is basic... Official Description (provided by the hotel)
Visiting Grinda is like coming to a place where the world stands still.Located just one hour from central Stockholm, you’ll find yourself as far as possible from the madding crowd.Only one thing exists here. The greatest peace and quiet.Henrik Santesson first discovered this tranquillity. The first director of the Nobel Committee bought the island in 1906 and built a summer house for the pleasure of his family. It took two years to build the art-deco building, which today is the beautiful inn, Grinda Wärdshus. As our guest, we offer you the same hospitality as Henrik Santesson offered his – fine dining, beautiful ambience and a good night’s sleep in the heart of the archipelago.Spring and autumn, summer and winter. “we had a ground floor east room. advantage: close to hotel. Disadvantage, everyone walking past can see in unless you shut the shutters! Upper floor probably a wiser idea, we were lucky there was no elephant above us or this would have been another reason to take upstairs.”

“The rooms are in 4 wooden buildings at the back. Each building has 4 rooms downstairs and 4 upstairs, all facing the same direction (South West). The Western and Southern building are standing in front of the Northern and Eastern building. Upstairs rooms have slightly better views, and the corner rooms have windows on two sides.”

“The rooms are basically identical, although corner ones get an extra window.”
