Gyllene Uttern is somehow a Swedish institution. Perhaps because everyone and anyone that has driven through Sweden will know where it is. The buildings have been built and re-built over many years and at the moment the main building has a very cosy old style feel to it. The former terrace has been glassed in and now constitutes a dining...

I had the chance to stay there and to enjoy dinner in the panoramic restaurant. The food was superb, the service flawless and with exactly the personal touch which you would like without being overdone, and the location really does not need any further explanation! The crew at the reception was efficient and super-friendly and even helped me out with...

This hotel is something special. Built in the 1930s in a style which I can only describe as "Baronial Hunting Lodge", which gives this magical place such a character, it's difficult not to fall in love with it. Add to that the most fantastic location on the banks of the EU's 2nd largest lake, lake Vattern makes it into a...

Glorious views over Lake Vattern. Convenient location if driving from Denmark or South Sweden to Stockholm fir example. Very friendly staff and we had pleasant room and quite OK bathroom facilities in Annex. Quiet night and plenty of parking. Terrace restaurant and verandah also provide fine views. Dinner was excellent but pricey (as usual in Sweden) especially wine. Various local...

The Hotel has a lovely location on the slope facing lake Vättern. It has an impressive history in Swedish motor tourism (you can read it in the menu). Our room ( in one annex building) had the view and was comfortable and well tended but nothing extra. The staff was attentive.

The view is really great from the whole hotel area and the personal is helpful and kind. The breakfast is good and the rooms are clean. The bed was very hard however and we both woke up with pain in our backs.

2 nights early July. The Main building beguiles with eye-catching old world exterior and rustic yet elegant hunting lodge interior that meanders down hallways and into sunrooms lined with chairs and old photos. Loads of personality here and spot-on reminiscent of the U.S. National Park lodges built in the 1930s, the same time this hotel was started when it was...

One has to stop at the Gyllene Uttern for its delicious café or restaurant. Old building with marvellous view. We had a classic and good eg and anchovy sandwich. Good service and average prices. Highly recommended as a good stop on your way to/from Stockholm and the south of Sweden.

We happened to pass by and decided to stop fur lunch. This proved indeed to be a very good decision. We were warmly welcomed in the cosy restaurant whit a spectacular view over lake Vättern and the lunch that we were served was indeed excellent. We continued over journey with a happy smile on our faces.

Our room was in one of the "new" wings, not the main building. The room was quite plain, more 3 star than 5 star - comfortable but not luxurious. The views were 4-5 star, both from our room, and even more so from ding room and the general access balcony. The meal in the dining room was lovely.
