We travelled from Europe to stay at the Treehouse and I can sincerely and honestly say this has been one of our best holidays ever. I have included photos from all sorts of things we got up to thanks to the amazing hosts, Sid and Ruchi (plus Rajo). We arrived in Delhi, from Barcelona via Abu Dhabi and after a quick 4am coffee we set off for Almora. The trip passed surprisingly quickly, with Sid showing his street smarts in selecting great stopping places (Gill Dhabi anyone?) At the treehouse we were greeted by a lovely suite, superb (and I mean SUPERB) mattress, all modern facilities whilst maintaining a forest feel, loved it. The food provided was amazing (I have to admit that I am somewhat addicted to Indian breads and they fed me well!). The fresh food was extremely tasty with some personal specialties prepared by Sid and Ruchi. Sid is a bit of a sweet freak! Ruchi makes amazing wine, if you’re lucky enough for there to be any left. The tours, drives, picnics were all delightful, so peaceful and relaxing it is difficult to describe, but every one was an experience and when you see the Himalayas, you’ll just stand and stare, and stare.. Sid and Ruchi are wonderful people, friendly, warm, funny and with amazing stories and local knowledge. Good cooks, artists and generally all round great people, you'll not meet nicer people! A fantastic and full week, leaving us thirsty for more and figuring out when we can return. Thank you both for a delightful holiday and we hope to see you again!

Property's Favourite Review
It was November. The cold just beginning to dig its teeth into the air; getting us ready to crave hugs and blankets, sleep longer, love harder. I am a November child and my birthday shall be important to me till my dying breath. So, I plan and travel in search of adventure sometimes, sometimes in search of home. Homes in distant, far off places, homes where you find family, homes where you eat with your hands and don't stay awake in the hopes to find the new, the exciting, a wonderland, a secret garden, home where all its beauty is spread right in front of your eyes and buried in your heart. Anyplace can become home, and maybe that's why some places are called homestays. But only a few really know how to become home. At Treehouse, Almora - Ruchi and Sid know exactly what a home must feel like. I didn't find home after I reached the place. I found home from the first call I made to Ruchi. She didn't speak to me like I was a prospective customer, she spoke to me like I was obviously invited. And that is where the first sense of homely warmth crept in. I struggled a little to make a decision as I normally do, Treehouse was after all for us travellers on a budget, the indulgence we were allowing ourselves only for the sake of my birthday. And oh what an indulgence it was. We travelled for 10 hours from Rishikesh and when we reached Almora, Sid stayed with us on call from the main market to their front gate guiding a frustrated driver ever so patiently. I requested Ruchi if we could arrange snacks for the driver like of a family member to make provisions for someone who'd been troubled for us and they were ready and obliging. The next couple of days are actually a blur, they went by almost too quickly. I thought I'd just take a moment to unwind and they were over. I keep thinking of how I didn't explore the property better, of how I didn't soak in a sunrise or a sunset, of how I didn't let my mind wander while hearing the voices of the town in the distance. We took in the majestic views from our window and we lay in bed letting our backs rest, finding comfort. We were then fed to our hearts content and the momo obsessed me was treated to her first meal here with both Chicken and Mutton momos and a deliciously spicy chutney to battle the cold. And then it was one pahadi meal after the other. A spread for both dinners with gahat kil dal and bhat ki dal, laee ki sabzi, a mustard raita that played games with your senses and the infamous Uttarakhandi bhaang ki chutney that I paired with everything on the breakfast table including spreading it on a slice of buttered toast; trust me, bread, butter and bhang ki chutney can take over bread, butter, and jam anytime we let the world discover this gloriousness. I'm not going to lie, the idea of trying it even with the pancakes crossed my mind, I controlled myself. PS: Thanks Ruchi for letting us take away the leftovers of the chutney too. And now coming to what made Ruchi and Sid's hospitality stand out the most for me. For my birthday, they prepared a humble picnic basket with omelette sandwiches and tea and drove us, yes Sid drove us himself to the nearby town of Kasardevi. They delved into the details of what makes Kasardevi so magical. We witnessed the peaks of Nandadevi at its peak and Sid indulged all my of photo requests with the most perfect backdrops. But this is still not it, I am still in awe and so very grateful to them for actually talking out the time and effort to find us our next stay. They needn't have since it was just us moving on from their place but they sent us recommendations and then that day at Kasardevi, they took us to the hotel and helped us snag the room where we spent the next three most beautiful days. It's gestures like this that won my heart and they did them like it was what they had signed up for. Part of signing up for delivering the feeling of home. On our drive back Ruchi educated us on all the types of weaving and handicraft that was a feature of the state and we stopped by at a store, exploring the weaves. That little strip of the mountain right outside our room, that's where we spent most of our time, looking beyond, to another time, another day when we shall visit and stay a few days longer. Let that sink in. I always knew I'm coming back, to the deck where we warmed ourselved before the crackling fire till all the wood chopped up for the night ran out, to the open patch with the laundry line soaking in the sun in the pretext of drying clothes and playing house, to Ruchi and Sid's stories and their home that they make home for you. Thank you, Treehouse, Almora. You have left me with what I like to call, what I will smile about when I can't remember what it is that I am smiling about.

We just returned after spending 3 comfortable days at this property. The hosts, Sid and Ruchi took good care of us. The property is located close to a forest on a hill. The view from their terrace / deck is amazing, especially at night when you can see the city of Almora fully lit. We stayed in their wilderness suite, the property is surrounded by pine trees and if you are lucky like us you can spot the small Kashmir flying squirrel (Eoglaucomys fimbriatus) which I am told has returned after close to 25 years to this region. We had fantastic meals on all days and the hosts ensured that our stay was completely comfortable. If I had to curate a list of properties in the Kumaon region, then this property will definitely be in it. The supporting staff were helpful too. All in all a great place to stay in Almora.

Located on the outer reaches of Almora and perched atop a hill , this is a lovingly maintained heritage property. We were 2 couples nestled in adjoining rooms with a lovely sit out just below the majestic branches of a 150 year old Deodar ! The hosts of this lovely property, Ruchi and Sid, left no stone unturned to make us feel at home . The property is sparkling clean and oozed charm .Evenings were spent gazing at the stars and far away hills and the lights of Almora from their lovely rooftop sitout , with Ruchi’s delectable snacks for company. Hot tip : Take a drive to nearby Kasar and check out the chic cafés there . Keep driving further on this picturesque route to Binsar for a day well spent !

It was a wonderful stay at treehouse Almora. A real feeling of home stay alongwith comfort of a nice hotel. Host worked really hard to provide us with all the comfort during our stay. Cleanliness, quality of Linen, washrooms is at par a good hotel. Lovely evening snacks made by Mr. and Mrs. Goel for their guests....they really know what guests are looking for when they are away from their home. I found this place more than my expectations. Which is not always the case with other properties I visited in the past. All in all, a major share of this tareef goes to Mr. and Mrs. Goel. Thanks alot for making our holidays memorable.

This Estate is as pretty and serene as it gets! The hosts, Sid and Ruchi, go out of their way to make everyone feel comfortable and at home. Their food, specially the pizzas, are to die for! We were a little skeptical about things to do around the area since we were travelling with a dog, but we never had a dull day. From treks, views, river side picnics, you name it and it’s there! We had a great trip, and will definitely be coming back for more Ruchi and Sid are absolutely amazing and go over and above to make you feel at home. Special shoutout to Sundar and Naveen bhaiya too for helping us stay comfortable throughout! :)

We had an amazing time at Chaukhamba Estate staying there from 29th Dec’ 21 to 2nd Jan’22. Ruchi and Sid left no stone unturned being the perfect hosts. We could not have asked for more. The views from the deck are awesome, the New Year was called in with much fervour, the food is simply fabulous and the hospitality is genuinely warm. Not only did Ruchi and Sid guide us to our excursions but Sid also played the saviour for helping us with a flat tyre. Our doggo also had a great time with the other guests and the lovely balcony outside our rooms. Thank you Ruchi and Sid.. we will come back for more.

If you are in Almora and you are looking for a place to stay, your search ends here. Spectacular view, amazing hospitality and fun environment. They serve delicious food ranging from English breakfast to Kumauni cuisine. It is very safe for solo travellers who are looking for work from mountains spaces. The sunset point is at a walking distance and there a couple of trekking spaces too. Every day seems surreal here, it is that beautiful!

We spent a happy two days at Treehouse. Ruchi & Sid are fantastic hosts - organising our transport - and going out of their way to make us feel welcome and show us around Almora. Treehouse is comfy, clean and relaxed. The lunches and dinners are excellent - a real treat.
