I had a fantastic stay at a charming homestay in Almora, located in the peaceful old cantonment area. The homestay is owned by Mr. and Mrs. Shekhar, who were wonderful hosts and even organized a lively New Year’s soiree with singing, dancing, and a warm crowd of friends and family.

The house itself is an old colonial bungalow, beautifully maintained with well-kept plants around the property. My room was spotlessly clean and comfortable, adding to the overall peaceful atmosphere.

Managed by Prakashji and his attentive team, the service was exceptional. They made sure every need was met and prepared delicious meals that made my stay even more special.

I highly recommend this serene retreat for anyone visiting Almora!

Deodar Homestay in the Himalayan town of Almora in Uttarakhand, is the place to go to in the month of October when the snow-clad peaks start revealing themselves at the crack of dawn. You don't have to look before and after, just ask for Shekhar Lakhchaura, who along with his wife, runs Deodar Homestay. Shekhar is a lawyer by profession, and is quite a popular figure in Almora. So, finding Deodar Homestay is not a problem at all.

The road to the homestay is lined with ancient deodar trees, and the magnificent period bungalow seems to emerge dramatically from behind the green forest cover as you drive up. Rows of pleasantly colourful flowers welcome you once you reach Deodar Homestay. Comfortable, clean and cosy rooms with soothing lighting and the healing stillness of the mountains leave a balmy effect on you. At this point a steaming cup of tea, coffee or any other drink of your choice is served, and you sit quietly alone, or with family. Believe me you, it's a meditative experience!

Mr and Mrs Lakhchaura, the welcoming hosts at Devdar Homestay make you feel at home at the dinner table while you wait for the delicious food served with a lot of love, care and affection. The staff is very friendly and always eager to help. They respect the guests and deserve the same from visitors.

Take a stroll in the old lanes of Almora which has been the seat of power for centuries. There is a lot of history and tradition at every step. And when you get tired, come home to Deodar Homestay,

Each word written above is based on my personal experience when we visited DH in summer this year. Look forward to reading about your experiences. Do not forget to share.

I am so grateful to Deodar homestay. It is situated on a pristine garden landscape on the hilltop, in the charming town of Almora. A relaxing place to heal, enjoy amazing local cuisine, meet new friends, and explore Almora and Kasar Devi.
The rooms are elegant, well appointed and very clean. I stayed for 2 weeks and everyday I have felt so welcomed and cared for by the hosts and serving staff.
They graciously accommodated my dietary needs, and the food provided is delicious and nutritious.
The gardens on the property have great trails for walking and various beautiful settings to just sit and enjoy the natural beauty. There is a large indoor swimming pool available for guests just a short walk from your room.
This is the perfect way to experience a boutique resort, while feeling very well connected to the local culture, food, and people.
There is a private spa room where you can have various healing treatments and enjoy the steam room all to yourself.
I love Deodar homestay and would highly recommend it to anyone and everyone to experience. I feel it's the best place you can choose to stay when visiting Almora.
Thank you to my hosts, Vinita and Shekhar for the hospitality and care, I hope to come back soon and often !
Best,
Nithya

Last week I visited Deodar homestay with couple of close friends. This plan was made in a run time and we were not sure how this place would turn out to be. However as soon as we entered the property all our apprehensions vanished. This is a massive homestay (around 6 acre) located in a VIP location surrounded by tall deodar trees. It is a heritage property from the British era which has been converted into home stay with very lavish interiors, bathroom fittings , lovely garden all around, huge rooms, balconies and last but not the least delicious meals. All 6 rooms (open for visitors) all well appointed and are very comfortable.
The owners (Shekhar ji and Vinita ji) are excellent host. They took great care of us as a family members and ensured we feel comfortable. With calm and beautiful surroundings the entire stay (one week) was very relaxing. However the highlight of the trip was the sumptuous meal that was served by Prakash ji (cook cum manager). He can cook all type of cuisines and it was so very tasty that on all 7 days we did not eat out even once. I highly recommend this place to anyone who plans to visit Almora.

In the lap of mountains, if you are looking for a picture perfect home away from home, you have come to the right place.

The smiles of the staff, the attitude and demeanour of the host (the couple) and the playfulness of the pets, all of then bear a big sign of ‘welcome & relax, we shall take care of you’.

The pictures are what you get for real, the walkways around the hill where this place is, may surprise you on the upside. The place is built and maintained with lot of passion.People in town regard our host with great respect, this place is well known to locals so no problem in finding it.

Do check for shortcuts from locals for the downhill walkways to the mall road (one of the main city road) , google map takes you through long route.

Beware of some namesake duplicate homestay in and around Almora.

Worth it, if planning a vacation in Almora.

The most wholesome stay I have had in a long time!

The owners have created a sanctuary where you can just be. Serene and nestled in a variety of flowers, the homestay is modern yet rustic!
We were treated to sumptuous meals by the very talented Prakashji, who planned every meal considering every member's taste, and we were 8 of us!
And a special thank you to Gaurav and Manu, who took care of us for 14 whole days.

Nestled in the serene hills of Almora, this homestay is a true haven for nature lovers. Surrounded by breathtaking landscapes, it offers a peaceful retreat from the hustle and bustle of city life.

The brilliance of this homestay extends beyond its scenic views; the hosts and staff elevate the experience to unparalleled heights. The warmth and hospitality of the host make you feel like you're visiting a dear friend rather than a guesthouse. Their local insights and personalized attention create a welcoming atmosphere.

The staff, too, play a pivotal role in ensuring a seamless stay. From attentive service to local cuisine expertise, they go above and beyond to make your stay memorable. Whether it's a guided nature walk or a cozy evening by the fireplace, the staff's dedication adds a special touch to the overall experience.

In essence, this homestay not only captivates with its natural beauty but also leaves a lasting impression through the genuine care and hospitality of its brilliant host and dedicated staff. It's a place where the charm of the surroundings is complemented by the warmth of the people, making it a must-visit for those seeking a perfect blend of tranquility and excellent hospitality in Almora.

Deodar Homestay is a peaceful retreat with breathtaking views of the Himalayas. The large property is surrounded by lush greenery, offering a serene atmosphere. The organic food is a delight, and the friendly pets add to the charm. My daughter had a wonderful time feeding the chickens, ducks, and dogs, staying happily engaged throughout our stay.
The spa and steam bath at the homestay were truly rejuvenating, adding a touch of luxury to the stay. It felt like a heavenly retreat, blending comfort and relaxation perfectly.
The staff is incredibly punctual and attentive. Highly recommend this place for a relaxing getaway!

This is one unforgettable heavenly place tucked away in the Cantt Area of Almora where old world British charm meets with heart warmingKumaoni hospitality of the hosts Shekharji and Vinita Mam. An elegantly stylised 130yr old British Army bungalow refurbished with all modern facilities and view of the Himaayas to die for is ideal to unwind from the city stress. THe rooms are spacious with soul soothing view and spotlessly clean. Even though its pet friendly there was never a hairy dirty spot. The smell of pine trees and chirping of wide array of colorful birds make for a perfect holiday retreat. PrakashDa their Manager-Chef-Guide ever smiling and always available for all our big/small/ pressing/irrelevant issues is the perfect complement to the host couple of Lakhchauras. Prakash is an expert multi cuisine cook who turns up authentic Kumaoni cuisine of Bhatt dal and dubke Aloo guthke, BHang chatni, local Mutton curry, red rice kheer not to forget his Lucknavi Biryani, Wood fired pizza lip smacking Chhole bhature. Be sure to take those long slow walks and treks around the property so that you are ready for the next delicacy. Shekhar and Vinita are great conversationalists with interests in organic products, education for the underprivileged, society and politics, wide variety of their experiences and great to connect over your own liquor as they dont serve it but you can carry loads of it. Since its the most well appointed adress here you occassionally bump in to a Star guest like we had a chance meetup with Mr Manoj Bajpayee.. So just pack up your trekking shoes, booze and switch off your data pack to enjoy this homestay

I went to Deodar Homestay for a short family trip, it was our first experience with Homestays in India and it's safe to say we hit jackpot in 1 go. This place is like a hidden treasure and one can only stumble upon it if one's a true seeker. Every sq. ft. is intentionally curated with meticulous attention to detail and a keen eye for art. This beautiful home has something for everybody but most of all it offers a love galore that could not be contained by half-opened hearts. There is an unquestionable sense of calm, peace and serenity at every hour of the day and night here, as if the time stands still for you to take in all that you need to.

If the aesthetics are so on point, how could the hospitality be any less? Prakash Bhaiya, the property caretaker and the chef to me was the creator of magic and the curator of lip-smacking, heart-warming food and experience, always happy to help and forever smiling.

I had the best time Deodar Homestay, I've made friends I didn't know I would (with all, their Retriever Yuri, their Kitty and the wonderful Humans alike) and I didn't say goodbye because I knew I'd keep coming back.

Thank you for the generosity and the Love, this is hardly something I could describe in words but I've tried!

Love Always,
Naina
