One such place to make you relive the past, the lost traditions of the colonial era, ancient architectural designs, princely state and relish Kumaon’s traditional cuisine is The Balmoral by Camp Bliss. Nestled amidst the lush green cantonment town of Ranikhet, Uttarakhand, in the foothills of the Himalayas. It is a 120-year-oldcolonial house owned by a local family who migrated with the Indian army during the British raj almost 80 years ago. Perched on a hill and surrounded by unexplored expanse of jungles and hilly terrain, here luxury meets laidback lifestyle. Immerse yourself in nature and meditate to the sounds of birds and crickets. Balmoral brings you a world of quiet indulgence, solitude and a relaxing getaway that is not only rejuvenating but also rewarding. The Balmoral is home to a variety of flora and fauna. You can spot about 40 species of birds, flying foxes, swamp deer, wild boars, nilgai, Himalayan Khalij pheasants, wide variety of butterflies and insects, rabbits, snakes and occasionally leopards. Surrounded by Deodar,Eucalyptus, pines and oak trees, our property has good quality air that is healing and nourishing. This area also has moist mixed deciduous forests, sub-alpine pastures and scrubs in abundance.

We stayed there for 4 nights. Three families. Great experience. Loved the serene atmosphere with surrounding hills and pine trees. Old English style building, nicely maintained with old artifacts and furniture. Big rooms, elegantly decorated. Caring staff. Enjoyed the food prepared by the chef.

We were looking forward for our stay at Balmoral Camp bliss, considering it’s been a long time since as a family we had a chance to take some sort of vacation. Looking at all the pictures of the place and glowing reviews, we were keen to reach there and enjoy our stay at the property. (It is advisable that you ask someone at the property to guide you for the last km, as google map just gives it up before a kilometer. Now coming to the property, on first look it really looks awesome. The bungalow itself is nice well done and clean. We had booked ourselves tent, going by the pictures in gallery we thought of giving ourselves a new experience without compromising on any of the basic creature comforts. Now there are a few points to note before you opt for a tent stay. Pictures aren’t portraying the truth. 1. It’s clear the tents aren’t cleaned regularly. We were left really disappointed seeing the state of it from inside, there were areas where we were consciously avoiding any touch. 2. If you have any elders or someone who finds it tough to climb up stairs, don't opt for it, as there are some stairs to reach them. I had my mother with me, who finds it difficult to climb up frequently, so it was indeed tough for her. Instead book rooms in the main bungalow, they are spacious and far well maintained and clean. 3. The Lenin and floor demand much, again proper scheduled cleaning it seems is skipped. 4. Ensure you bring all your toiletries essential, they just have some soap bars, and on request they provide dental kit (tooth brush and paste). I avoided using the towels provided after looking at how the linen in the room was kept. 5. Normally for the price you pay, you expect tea coffee kit. Yes it was provided, but one look at the inside of kettle, we thought it’s wise not to use it. Ended up ordering our morning and evening tea from the kitchen, as after repeated requests kettles weren't replaced. Of course the tea we ordered came at a price, which we realized while settling the bills. 6. Tents though give you a unique experience, they are quite, with only the sounds of birds chirping and an occasional howling from animals. (If it rains, it does gets noisy inside the tents and you hear every drop falling on top of it). 7. Since it’s kind of in the middle of forest surrounded by tress and flora, you would encounter some insects etc. but that adds to the whole experience. Coming to the rest of the property, as I said the property itself is nice, though don’t expect views of the valley. This is right in the middle of tall pine trees around it, and you experience complete seclusion. However, the property it seems is clearly not managed well, or at least during our stay. The staff is courteous but most of the times seems confused, with no one taking any lead, for everything they rely on calling someone for guidance. We had booked the property with all meals. The meals themselves for whatever was served was extremely delicious, it’s all home cooked food and nothing fancy. However there isn’t any variety. If you love your meat, all you get is chicken and egg. Breakfast would be poori Bhaji, or parantha with egg and toast, if you ask some poha, that’s about it. No juice or fresh cut fruits. Even after booking all meals, we decided skip our lunch there. On reminding them that we are not having lunch owing to lack of variety and they can accommodate one extra veg dish in dinner or snacks in evening if they can. But it seems, if you skip lunch thats on you, you pay for evening snacks. Not blaming them here, but I should have planned this in advance, and not got over excited while booking it. To sum it up, we really were looking forward to our stay at the property, just stay 24x7 there, relax, eat and enjoy ourselves, recharging ourselves for the city life. Unfortunately we didn’t, owing to the way property was managed, we would have our breakfast and spend entire day at some nice cafe in and around Ranikhet and return just for evening tea or or at times straight for dinner. This property has all the ingredients to be the most beautiful place to stay in Ranikhet, if only it is managed well. They, really need to ensure proper cleaning and maintenance of tents. And of course see to it that there is some planning done in terms of food being served. It’s clear we don't expect facilities like hotel, and should consider it more of a homestay, but the warmth and hospitality was just not there, when we travel as a family, we generally feed a little sad leaving and ending our trip, here we were just eager to leave and end it, and that says a lot of our experience. I seriously hope that the feedback is taken in the right spirit and in future this property does really well by providing guest with an unforgettable delightful experience. Additional info: If you are driving from Delhi, the conditions of road is fantastic all the way up to the property. We were a little worried with all the rains and all, but we started from Southwest Delhi at 4:50am and were at the property by 1:30pm (We did take couple of breaks in between) Our route: Delhi>Moradabad>Rudrapur>Haldwani>Jeolikot>Bhowali>Ranikhet

We stayed as a couple for 2 nights in Camp Bliss and we were very satisfied with all the facilities, the food and the peaceful surroundings. The staff is very kind and helpful, they welcomed us very well and take great care of the place. We stayed in the tents which are clean and hygienic with all the basic facilities one expects. Wonderful work and coordination done by Ms. Ruchi Roy Choudhary taking care of the guest and helping with the itinerary. Highly recommend!

The level of services experienced was surprisingly comparable with 5 Star hotels in the country, though the staff is not educated to that level, their shiwnof warmth and hospitality is second to none. The rooms are clean and well maintained, tue food fresh and served hot. Views and location amazing. In all a truely great experience.
