Our stay went very well. At the bottom of a passage you will find a small haven of peace. Beautiful view guaranteed! The service was really very good.We felt very comfortable in the resort, a large room with sensible furnishings, a large closet, a board with plenty of space, the possibility of making coffee or tea yourself.

A little dangerous curve to arrive to this property. A wrong move could end up car into back water. owner should take some initiatives to put some barricade to protect cars or bikes coming in. The property itself is cozy, quiet, have a fantastic view. Tried karimeen pollichattu. An awesome dish that must not be missed here. Good breakfast. nice view of sunset and sunrise. Literally the massive vembanad lake is where all the houseboats move around. fantastic view. Evening was very calm and quiet.

nice place for a quiet stay by the banks of kumarakom backwaters.it would be nice if you could go with family as there are only four rooms and it could be occupied by the same group of people. rooms are spacious with a good clean toilet. food is also good with inhouse kitchen and a nice cook. as its literally on the banks you could enjoy the backwaters. no pool, but if you know swimming can explore the backwaters itself as the water height is about 5 ft for about 5mtrs near the banks. in house activities could have been better as its a small property with limited space for any exploration. its also very near to house boat jetty, bird sanctuary and main roads.

I spent 8 days in Kerala with my family from Dec 14th toll Dec 21st. The holiday started at Cochin and we spent time in Munnar, Thekkady, Allepy and Kumarakom before returning to Cochin for the flight back to Delhi. Hope this update with all its plus and minus points helps those planning similar holiday in the beautiful state of Kerala. And I hope others also take time of to share their feedback for holidays in not just Kerala but any place in India and abroad so that others can benefit from the feedback and have truly enjoyable and relaxing holidays
Day 6 & 7 – Kumarakom:
A short 90 min drive takes you from Allepey to Kumarakom on the other side of the Vembanad lake. A nice quaint and picturesque town which gives a true feeling of being in beautiful Kerala. We stayed at Saro Lake County. A small place with 4 rooms all of which are on the lakeside, nice bathrooms and a fabulous and courteous staff led by Jiten. The resort must have been somebody’s holiday home and gives nice homely feeling.
The resort has very nice and clean bathrooms but there is a need to spend money on maintenance of the rooms. There are patches of plaster coming of and some seepage in the corners.
The resort also serves food which I believe is good but the menu is quite expensive. There are some restaurants within 1-2 km of the resort and reason enough for a good walk.
The best part of Saro Lake is that you are staying just 5 ft from a huge and beautiful lake. You can’t stay any closer to water than this. We were booked there for just one day but were very fortunate that one booking got cancelled and we managed to stay there for 2 days. We spent two marvelous days on garden chairs and hammock just 5 ft away from the lake. The calm lake in the morning starts seeing waves as the day progresses and you enjoy the music of sound of waves hitting the resort walkway in the evening.
It could not have been better than this. The serene surroundings also present you the best possible view of the sunset.
Now the last million dollar advise:
How good your holiday will be will depend upon how much effort you put into selecting your resorts. If you let the travel companies Make My Trip, Yatra, Hotel.com or any other travel company select and book the hotels/resorts for you would sacrificed a lot of your hard earned money and messed up your holiday. They will book you into resorts and hotels which are not good enough for anybody and hence nobody would book on their own. That is precisely the reason why such hotels and resorts need a Make My Trip, Yatra or other travel agents to sell their property. And in doing so they offer 5% to 50% margins to these travel companies. Hence in the end only 50-70% of what you pay goes to the hotel/resort and that infact defines and decides the real quality and standard of the hotel/resort you will get to stay in. In our case Springdale Heritage Resort was offered and booked by the travel agency and it was horrible place to go to.
Travel agency offered us Shamrock in Munnar. After some research we changed it to Aranyaka which undoubtedly was the best resort in our trip. Hence the biggest learning is to stay away from the travel website and travel agents. If you still want to use them then select all the hotel/resorts on your own and simply ask them to make the bookings for you.
The bottom line is what is good for the travel websites and travel agents cannot and will not be good for you. They are focused on revenue and margin which has connection with your focus of an economic, relaxing and enjoyable holiday.

Serene Lake Side resort Location : Gives you an excellent view of the lake and their rooms are very close to the lake. A walk by the side of the lake & a night listening to the whisper of the waves carries you into recesses of feeling otherwise impenetrable Hospitality : Hotel manager jithin is a gentle man, who manages things almost single handedly. Very helpful and is always available. He called us in advance to know our food preferences and our travel plan.Though we reached the resort late night, we had a smooth check in. thank you so much mr,jithin. Food : May be a little expensive but worth the money we paid for! Their chef is too gud. we had Duck curry and palappam for the dinner! They dnt have a buffet menu for the breakfast. But their soulful recipes are much better than the buffet breakfasts we get at other resorts. Since they dont have a restaurant as such, make sure u order in advance for lunch and dinner. (else u will be left with water in the lake for dinner! ;-P) Rooms : 2 out of total 4 rooms give you the lake view. room spacious enough for 2 people. bathrooms are clean. OVERALL AN AWSM EXPERIENCE! 5 stars for location, food & their hospitality!

My apologies for writing in so late.. To be very frank, I am not used to commenting on my outing. But off late, I realised how much it matters to the staff of these resorts to improve upon their services and to realise the satisfaction levels of their customers. I visited with my family and friends at Saro Lake County in the month of November post my Sabarimala pilgrimage. An outing for the family to destress from the daily routine work pressures. Like always we did a thorough online study of various accommodation near Kumarakom and then found out Saro which was advertised not up to to the reality. We didn't have much expectations of the place as there were less rooms . But on our arrival at the resort , we were amazed by the view to start off with.. This resort is situated on the banks of the lake completely fenced to make it a feel of private and safe property. We had booked two rooms and to our good surprise, there were no other guests then. We checked in to the spacious and luxurious rooms facing the lake with some cool windy air throughout . The rooms were well maintained and the bathrooms were awesome with glass top ceiling.. We were really thankful to ourselves for our choice. The kids had a huge playing area where they enjoyed a lot. The hospitality was awesome and trust me though the market is about a kilometer away from the resort, the staff without any hesitation uses their two wheelers to get anything that you order from the shops and that too with a broad smile on their faces.. I am a foodie and am particular with what I get on the table.. Authenticity with loads of varieties best suited to your taste buds were served throughout the two day stay.. Amazing food including veg and non veg.. Kerala style breakfast including tapioca was relished by all .. My only sad experience was the boat house which was ordered though through the staff but to a third party had shockingly some bad food and that too with less quantity.. apart from this , my experience was worth the amount paid and let me tell you that the costs involved is very reasonable and a personalised service too. I have recommended my friends who too upon had to share the same experience and I will always recommend each one of you to visit this resort that has an awesome view with spacious rooms, mouthwatering food and ever smiling staff. I may be excused if I am wrong here, I guess the staff who ensured worth the stay is Mr. Jithin .. Jithin , I personally thank you and your staff for the awesome services .. We look to see guys soon on our next trip to Kumarakom..

We've stayed here on several occasions, both with kids and without, and have found the cottages to be super clean, comfortable and a great value. The property is well-kept, quiet and offered lots of fun stuff for the kids to do. It's located within minutes of all the activities in Kumarakom and Kottayam, and is an affordable alternative for someone looking for more space than a hotel room offers. We will definitely stay there again, and would recommend to others without hesitation!
