it is not Edassery Kayal resorts any more as the name has been changed as 'COCONUT GROVE' after it has been taken over by ROYAL RESORTS Goa(ODESSEY) and named it also as Chakra resorts from sept.2013.
I stayed there with my time share from royal resorts from 25th to 27th Sept,2013. No doubt it is a beautifully laid out resort which you understand if you see the photographs I have attached. The resort has been redone after the take over, and so every thing looks new, nice and beautiful. Almost all the staff are newly employed and it is better than very good service. the restaurant is very nice and the dishes are excellent. As usual the rates are bit high, but there are no nearby restaurants any where( as it happens to all resorts type) and so you have to spend the money to eat there, There is no kitchen facility like in other royal resorts, except an electric kettle to make your Coffee or tea. The Manager Mr.Padmaraj arranged a boat( with good furniture and roof) for a 3 hours cruise in the back waters and the lake. This was worth going. The swimming pool is beautiful and clean but it is uniformly shallow all over and you can not dive in it. Good for Non-swimmers and children. The resort is about 15 Kms from Kottayam Railway station and the Auto charge is Rs.220 and Taxi fare is Rs.600/- The resort looks very beautiful in the night by the right type of illumination all over. Over all, I enjoyed my stay there.

This is one of the best resort to suit budget. It is right on the lake and huge very well furnished and decorated rooms. Beside location which is right next to seven star Zuri resort, the hospitality here is very warm and one of the best. Also the construction of whole resort is one of unique. And not to forget the best local food and classic bar,

This place was one of my stoppage during my Honeymoon to Kerala.....stayed here for 2 nights in Dec'12.....was mesmerized with beauty....of the place.....my wife could not stop saying WOW....as soon as we step out of our cab....welcome was good....staff was courteous....location of the resort is literally a place which we North Indians can only dream of....every thing was good for me...till the time i had an argument with the restaurant manager.....I asked one of the waiter...whether i can have my snacks & drinks on the pool side...on which he said yes....and when i along with my wife were seated over there with all our setup....he asked us to shift in the restaurant....stating management decision....and after this argument....the attitude of the manager changed....all the smiles were gone....and that way a huge lay back for me....as we do not expect this kind of attitude in hospitality industry.......

Had booked this place for September through Oyo . paid the money well in advance, .but as it came closer to the travel date the resort refused the booking .and they said they would give the rooms only if I pay more ...so had to cancel the booking and look for alternate places.
imagine landing up at the resort with your family , fully paid , but you end up arguing with the staff on Tarif, and then go looking around for an alternate
so would not recommend this place, as I later saw in the reviews that this seems to be standard practice by this resort ..so plese don't get there and be disappointed

We were on our honeymoon trip here. Staff was wonderful. Special praise for Mr. Hariharan. Really upcoming small resort with wonderful facilities. Right on the banks of big Vemnard lake. Food was also very nice.
Room service was overcharged:- They charge you 50% extra.

Not Kayal, Not Coconut Grove, now it is 'The Grove' resort, as mentioned by the resort General Manager (Jaison Anithanam)...The confirmation voucher (guest certificate) issued was in the name of Coconut Grove...the 2 reservations were done on 6th Sept '13.
1. Resort management did not inform us that the resort name has now changed to 'The Grove'. We searched the resort using the Android navigator on phone for almost 2.5 hours...I called the reception number and was only informed that previously it was called Kayal resort...we searched this Kayal resort on the navigator and it gave the exact address as in the reservation voucher...but the driving instruction took us to a green field and there was no road ahead...then the reception informed that resort is at Kumarakom South...we had to find our own way to get to the resort with help from local people...
2. On reaching the resort, we were surprised that one of the reservation we had was mentioned by them in their system under some other guest...we had to prove that we had 2 separate reservations, only then they updated the booking details in their system..
3. We were also informed at the check-in counter that the check-in time is 4pm, though our reservation voucher mentioned the check-in time as 2pm. I had also called them earlier and they agreed for early check-in at 12pm. We had to get the Sales and Marketing manager to talk to each other and let them know that they are legally binded for us to check-in at 2pm, as per the reservation details.
4. Room and the resort ambience is good. Lighting during evening is good..
5. Location is at the lake, which is good
6. There are very few indoor games facility...they only have little bit torn billiards table..carrom board is without the powder...no table tennis etc...they only have swimming pool..So, it is difficult for children and adults to pass some time...
7. They provide only 4 tea/coffee and milk sachets in the room for entire 1 week...if you need additional (even small milk sachets) it is chargeable...
8. Restaurant service is poor. The raita for the veg biryani and sauce for the noodles was provided only after half hour (we had the biryani and noodles till then). Such poor was the restaurant service..
9. One of the room (303) did not get hot water. This was consistent experience.
10. For anything that you let them know, they informed us that the staff is new and limited and it is very difficult for them to get the correct staff and keep them from leaving.
11. I also spoke to Arvind (sales team), and let him know about my experience and that it will be shared on TripAdvisor, and he let us know that it is OK. It seemed he did not care about the experience I shared above...
When you stay at well known resort, you expect good service...not only good room and resort ambience...as mentioned above, our experience (2 families - 7 people - 4 adults, 3 kids) was poor on the service aspect...
We stayed at this 'The Grove' resort for one night on 8th Oct.

It is a beautifully designed resort with modern and spacious rooms facing the lake vembanad.Rooms of the ground floor have private sit out area. While rooms of the first floor have balconies facing the lake from where you can see moving boats, fishermen, sunset etc.
Visited as a couple from a 6 day tour taken by Antilog Vacations site at low rates & here are the fine prints of the hotel as I see it
1. Tour was good, wisely planned & executed by AV exec’s.Edassery ws nt a 5 str bt chosen solely of price..whole 6 day trip costed us around 40k bucks which ws very genuine
2. Rooms are big and all the rooms are lake facing .You can sit in the balcony or just see the beauty from the sit out area of the room as the wall of that place is made of sliding glass.
3. All the rooms are having A.C.,refridgerator, LCD TV etc. During evening all the lights are switched on which gives bright atmosphere.Welcome drink is refreshing.Check-in is quick.
4. Bathrooms are neat and clean and all the toiletries are provided. But there is no tissue paper in the room and snacks are not mentioned the room service menu.Another lacking part is there is no wi-fi in the rooms.
5. The swimming pool is alo a nice experience. It is really very beautiful. There is a small swimming pool for kids. But there is no shade near the pool. There is no deck chair also.
6. The house keeping and room service is excellent and attentive. But in the room service 50% extra is levied on food.
7. Breakfast is buffet while lunch and dinner is al-a-carte.Food is very good. There is a bar.But it is little far at the corner of another part of the resort. It is not so bright also.Looks very ordinery.
8. The layout of the resort is like sloping tiled roof cottages with verendah in the back and front.A swimming pool facing the lake. But there is a modern touch in the resrt which people will like. There is use of bright colours which attract people.
9. The whole building is constucted around a tank with water in it.There is no dock for houseboats in the resort. You have to get down at the boat landing which is a 10 mins drive from the resort.
10. There is aToddy shop just 150 meters away.Toddy is fresh palm wine. You can get up in the morning and cycle down there to have a taste.
11. There is a gym but it is not well eqquipped. The area is not very big.But the whole place is neatly maintained.
12. Price wise it is cheaper than other kumarakom resorts and if you want to have afive star experience you will not get it here.

We accidently saw this resort while looking for a good place to stay at Kumarakom. From the front gate onwards whatever we saw inside was a lovely creation by a good architect. A totally new concept. The location is excellent and almost all rooms have water view. The service was excellent. And the best was the quality of food. The ambiance is great. The right place to relax. . But parents with small kids should be vigilant as lot of waterways inside the property.
