The staff couldn't have been more helpful and courteous and Busa in the restaurant couldn't have done any more for us. She is an asset to the hotel. We enjoyed an afternoon in the Spa which was very good value.
The hotel is situated a short distance from the centre of Chaweng which is about a 20 mins walk or a 50 Baht per person ride in one of the frequent truck type taxis which pass the hotel.
All in all we really enjoyed our stay at Nora Beach and have no hesitation in recommending this hotel.
We stayed here for our Honeymoon and liked it so much, we returned for our 10th Anniversary.
This resort is just beautiful - the things postcards are made for. It hadn't changed in 10 years, which we liked.
The staff are so friendly and will do anything for you, from our arrival at the front desk, to housekeeping, to the food service & waiting staff, to the pool waiting staff, to our departure - there is not a more friendly, caring and happy staff.
This resort is clean, neat and tidy - it is beautiful
The only concern is that it is on the beach side of a cliff, which makes it difficult for the elderly or ill/injured to walk up and down the path from the foyer, rooms and to the pool and breakfast areas and back several times a day. There is a buggy available if you need.
The resort is North of the main Chaweng area, which makes it extremely peaceful. It is a short, cheap taxi ride into the heart of town or if you want to adventure North to the Fishermans Village area.
I would recommend this resort over and over again.
Literally nothing to complain about from the min we arrived.
Was greeted with a fruit drink and cold flannel on arrival.. our cases were brought to our room. We stayed in a deluxe room in the main building.. the bed was huge and comfy.. the bathroom was lovely and big😊 . The best thing about this hotel for me was the pool area.. right on the beach so you got the wind breeze which made sunbathing easier. The staff around the pool are always walking round bringing your drinks. Happy hour was 1pm-2pm and 4pm-5pm. The swim up bar was lovely too. The breakfast was great (everything you need) an egg station.. cereal.. danish pastrys.. fruit.. yogurt.. also hot thai food. They catered for everyone. The breakfast area was enclosed in glass doors which was lovely a cool and clean. Then the seating area was looking over the sea 😍. Walking to and from reception and pool is quite steep so i probably wouldnt recommend this hotel to people that struggle with hills/walking. Was rather puffed walking back upto our room.
The hotel is around 20mins walk into the main centre of chewang so its lovely and peaceful.. u can jump on a taxi/truck which cost 100baht. We rented a bike from the hotel which only cost 250baht a day which i would defo recommend to see the island (crystal bay beach is lush) also fishermans village in boput is a must.
You will defo have a good time at nora beach
On our arrival we were greeted by the reception staff who were quite frankly curt and bordering on being rude. They were more like robots going through the motions instead of being front line, customer focused staff.
We booked a sea view villa which was quite frankly a joke. Yes it was in the front row of villas but the sea view was literally invisible through the overgrown vegetation and palms that were in the way. The room itself was ok but again very dated with dark wood finishes, the only good think about the room was the air conditioning worked well.
Our biggest disappointment came with our visit to the restaurant. We used it on one occasion and were extremely disappointed and to say the food was below par is actually being kind.
My partner order the seafood chowder for his appetiser which was barely lukewarm, and quite frankly disgusting, it contained one muscle, one piece of very tough, rubbery squid and one prawn that you couldn’t even cut with a knife. He sent it back and decided to wait for the main course instead.
He had ordered the sea bass with again was inedible, the fish itself was undercooked and slimy. The risotto it came with was just a pile of overcooked mush which had clearly been reheated and not cooked fresh and therefore again he sent this back.
I had ordered the Tom Yam soup for appetiser and the Massaman beef curry for my main dish and even though I didn’t send these dishes back they were quite frankly very average.
The surprising part of the meal was when we received the bill, they hadn’t deducted my partners meal (even though he didn’t actually eat) and when I queried this they said that because he had started to eat they couldn’t make any deductions !! We complained and eventually after much debate they took the items off the bill.
Our evening was ruined but they were quite blasé about the whole experience and didn’t seem to care.
This resort could be amazing but they seriously need to concentrate on providing a better customer experience.
We stayed at Nora Buri resort & spa for 4 nights and frankly we were very disappointed with our time here. We actually came once in Dec 2015 when the service and hotel was much better. Safe to say we will never come back here again. Here are the reasons as to why our stay was so poor.
1. Although the staff confirmed our airport transfer service to the hotel via email a day before our arrival, when we arrived, their staff was no where to be found. We then decided to take a taxi to the hotel instead, at check in the staff told us they have a “delay” in receiving our email. The manager wouldn’t even come out to see us.
2. The electricity of the entire resort went out a few times during the day and the staff assured us it was no problem and it happens all the time. But at night when were sleeping from 3am-8am, the electricity went out 10+ times. And each time the electricity came back, the lights in the room would come on, which means our nights sleep was totally disrupted and we had a terrible night, waking up feeling tired and drained. This shouldn’t happen in any hotel, especially an acclaimed 5 star hotel like Nora buri.
3. The staff in the Gym room was very unprofessional, he was face timeing his friends on loudspeaker, and also watching videos on loud on his phone.
4. WiFi is very slow in room, need to login each time you unlock your phone.
5. At breakfast and lunch venues the staff were just chatting to each other and we even witnessed the staff taking a Croissant with her hands to take it into her manager. Staff should be better trained and this starts by their managers setting a good example
All In all a very disappointing stay. Don’t waste your time and money in staying here.
The pool villas at the „beach“ looked very great. These would be worth the trip. All in, hotel and ko samui itself is quite expensive for Thailand and I must say there are better places to stay.
The villa rooms are cleverly designed to ensure guests get a glimpse of the ocean, while ensuring privacy.
The hotel staff were polite and diligent. This was demonstrated when there was a power failure in our villa and a member of the staff resolved the problem quickly at 1:30 in the morning.
Breakfast was complimentary and had a wide spread pan east Asian as well as continental dishes. The à la carte menu decent, but a bit expensive.
I'll be definitely be visiting this place again. Cheers!
I have to say what a pleasant surprise greeted us at Nora Beach. it is about a 40 minute walk/ 5 minutes in a taxi to the centre of Chewang, but what a difference! It is around the coastline of the main beach so had its own secluded beach which was idillic, enough sunbeds for everyone on both the beach area and the beautiful pool with swim up bar, we chose the beach with the big trees giving natural shade.
There was Happy Hour, an excuse to swim up to the pool bar!
The staff were all brilliant with a smile on everyones faces.
Breakfast was really good, out of all the hotels I visited I think this was the best as the actually room with the buffet in was chilled, keeping everything fresh and more importantly no flies! The restaurant sat elevated from the beach with lovely views
The room was spacious and clean, we had a top floor with a balcony and a view of the sea
A couple of minor negatives;
There were paddleboards but you had to hire these for 100 baht an hour, other hotels had not had a hire charge, they were also broken, with a fin missing on one paddleboard, and the handle to carry the board on the other was broken, but I'm being picky, but they should be complimentary to the guests. We did use them and really enjoyed the experience
There was a free shuttle bus into Chewang centre but this only ran at 4pm. Please offer a sensible time 6/7pm. A taxi to Chewang is 200 baht each way. However, compared to staying in the centre, Nora Beach was a cheaper hotel and so much nicer, so to me, it's still worth the taxi fare if you wanted to go to Chewang for the evening. There were a couple of restaurants in walking distance but we didn't try them, and we didn't eat at Nora Beach apart from breakfast
The whole resort was very clean and well kept, spacious and just beautiful, this was my favourite hotel out of all the 10 hotels I stayed in on my 6 week trip, and if I go back to Koh Samui I would definitely stay here again. Thank you Nora Beach for ending my trip on a high!
