I stayed in this Hotel for a week while I was on a bsiness trip in Tampon for tenure of it's Yearly event Les Florileges. Room was up to my expectation, nice and cosy despite next to the main road, it was just comfortable and very relaxing. Very good selection of food items for Breakfast, did not eat dinner as was dining out most of the time with Partners and friends. I am a Hotelier and will be there again sometime next year and I highly recommend this Hotel to future guests BTW Loved the Parot in it's cage nearby the Reception Area.
This hotel is a convenient base to explore St Pierre (10 min drive away) and Piton de la Fournaise (1 hour drive). It is conveniently located along the N3 road. I went to the hotel directly from St Denis airport with my rental car, and the drive was straight-forward. From St Denis airport, it's a non-stop 1 hour drive along the RN1 and RN3 expressway. At the end of the expressway, there is a round-about. Follow the sign towards St Benoit, and after 2 more round-abouts, you can see the Sud Hotel on the right. There is ample parking, with an outdoor car-park and an underground car-park. However, the entrance to the car park has a very steep slope. I was driving a manual car and I stalled my car twice on the slope... The hotel is located in a quiet town and is clean and comfortable. The staff speaks English and is helpful. The hotel feels very safe because a group of gendarmerie (policemen) stay in the hotel. There is a pool and a jacuzzi but nobody seemed to use them because it was cold outdoors. There is wifi in the room (ask the reception for the password) but the connection was unstable sometimes. Breakfast is included and it consists of typical French pastries, baguette, cheese, jam, cornflakes, egg, yoghurt and fruits. Overall, the hotel is a reasonably priced option for those who wish to explore St Pierre and the volcano.…
This is a good clean hotel, value for money. The hotel is patronized by the local gendarmerie, they seem to use it as a kind of base and have dinner there. The pool is nice. Restaurant for dinner is fine, the buffet used by the gendarmes wasn't very appealing but the dinner we ordered was nice, breakfast (included in price) had a modest, nice collection. Customer service was cool but polite. Not much to do in the local area but a good option for its price - between the mountains and the sea.
I have been in this hotel on the occasion of my last trip to Réunion Island. Unpretentious hotel, but very reasonably priced and with all you need, to use it as a confortable base from where to explore at your leisure this wonderful island. If you hire a car upon arrival at the airport, in 1 hour you can reach by highway Le Tampon , and check in at Sud Hotel. The desk staff is very kind and helpful. Rooms are spacious and at 50 Euro/day, breakfast by the pool garden included, are a real bargain, compared to the more luxurious turist traps all along the coast. Saint Pierre with his waterfront restaurants, night life and Casino is only 10 minutes drive down the highway. In the opposite way, you have two possibilities : at Bourg-Murat you can take the narrow tar road leading to the volcan "Piton de la Fournaise" through forests followed by moonlike landscapes of lava. On the way back from the volcano, turning right on the main road you may reach at the top le "Col Bellevue" with strikingly beautiful scenaries, then descend to the other side of the island, through "La Plaine des Palmistes", reaching St. Benoit. The costal road to the right will lead you through the most interesting scenaries, and to "Le Grand Brulé", the area where the lava from the most recent eruption flowed up to the sea. Circuit done easily in one day. Next day from Le Tampon, via Saint Pierre, you may do the exploration of the coast towards Saint Denis and close the loop coming back through St. Benoit. Use the highway only if you are in a hurry : the best scenaries are those along the old coastal road.…
Simple hotel, choice of 3 types a room, we had an alizee room. While tampon was not in the LP we had some difficulties finding the hotel but it is on the route to the plaines. Nice and helpfull lady at reception. Room ok but furniture outdated, bed with too soft matrass so you keep gliding to the center. Outdated bathroom but with bath. Free wifi on our room, good breakfast, juices are squeezed for you. Pool large but a little fresh when we were there. Did not try the restaurant. Lot of gendarmerie in the hotel, reason?????
