What a pleasant surprise! We decided to have quick one night getaway and waited til last minute so options were quite limited we arrived with very little expectations other than comfy bed ( as that seemed to be common commentary) and some good coldish mountain air! We arrived and while we did have one of the noisy rooms — which made no sense as hotel was empty- it didn’t bother us and we had a great view of river. We enjoyed walking around the property and playground and had fantastic dinner with some super strong cocktails. Breakfast was equally delicious and they even packed one to go for our tween who was fast asleep in bed. WiFi was pretty sporadic but for a family that is Always
Connected was nice change to disconnect

Reviews are so important for deciding where to stay and how to spend your money. I know I rely on them. I want to address a few points from other reviews. First, as has been pointed out: set your expectation. This is the best hotel available, in Jarabacoa. It's not going to be a 5-star Hilton, but it is nice. There is hot water, you just have to let it run, for a very long time. Annoying, but now you know. There is no elevator,FYI, so if you have mobility issues, be sure to request a first floor room. You will have to haul your heavy suitcase up 2-3 (short) flights of stairs. My room was perfectly clean - no complaints. If you need quiet, request a room overlooking the courtyard. There is a clear sign (that perhaps is new and wasn't there previously) that states no vaping. That's still no excuse for poor handling by management. I found the food at the restaurant to be quite good, although, as has been stated, Jarabacoa is full of excellent options for eating out. The staff was pleasant and friendly and spoke decent English. Overall, as I said: this is your best option in Jarabacoa and it's perfectly lovely. Tip: wear bug spray, all the time! The restaurant is all open air. You will get eaten alive!

The hotel is very attractive and the setting is asolutely beautiful. However, it is lacking in the standard amenities. The rooms had no coffee maker, no microwave, no iron, no hand towels or washcloths, no tissues. The air conditioner was loud and there were no bedside lamps. The restaurant staff was friendly and efficient but the food left a lot to be desired. We had a late lunch when we arrived, and none of us even finished our meal. We went back later for coffee and dessert - same thing. You have high hopes upon seeing the place, but it's all downhill from there.

The Hotel Gran Jimenoa is a 2 star hotel masquerading as a four star. Situated on a beautiful site next to rushing rapids on the Yaque del Norte River, surrounded by lush tropical gardens, on first view, it suggests a special experience to come.
Our "deluxe double room" is a smallish cell with a tiny tv offset from the bed by 45deg. The air-conditioner is centered above the bed and is necessary because the balcony door has no screen; can't leave it open for fear of insect invasion. Also there is no wifi in the rooms or balconies.
Frustrated, we head to the desk and inquiries assure us that the only room that has wifi is the "Presidential Suite". After assurance of wifi, we decide to splurge and pay the extra $220US for two nights.
Somewhat tawdry but, with a large, comfortable 4 poster bed and his and her rain head shower room we figure we are in for a treat.
We quickly realize that the modem, mounted outdoors does not work and after a couple of hours of fumbling tech by the staff we are returned to our original cell with a full refund but, not a hint of any mea culpa.
The free breakfast is of prison quality and we see that, after a day and a half, the unsecured network in the "Presidential Suite" is still unnavigable.
The bed has left me with neck and shoulder pain and my lungs are filled with mucous. I sit here at 5:30am, in the deserted mess hall listening to a crackling loudspeaker, what sounds like a telephone beep tone and the rushing river. I pray for death's sting or a very early exit from a lovely place to which I hope never to return.

Let me start by saying that this is not a family friendly hotel!!! Multiple times we saw couples kissing and touching too much around the bridge.

We called 2 weeks in advance to reserve two rooms for 8 adults and 1 child. We told them how many people we were and that we wanted the room with river view and they said it was fine. On the way to the hotel, we decided to call them and let them know we would arrive by 7pm and they said it was fine and that they went ahead and moved us to the room apartment Doña Carolina 329 because they saw that we were a family and maybe it was a good idea to keep us together. We told them that we wanted to River view because that’s what we booked. They started saying that we never booked the river view and that we had reserved the pool view.

When we got to the hotel, they said the river view rooms are only for two people per room and that we have the Doña Carolina 329 room (apartment room). We didn’t care much about it until we got to the room and we saw that the room didn’t have a refrigerator and the walls had cracks on them! It was a very old room. Also the bathroom had stains on the bathtub floor and the shower curtains. Looked like housekeeping did not clean it properly. The bathroom itself was too dim. Those lights did not work properly.

To get your breakfast in the morning is a challenge! They can take up to an hour and you have to get up and get the waiters attention.

We were told that there was a Karaoke bar open every night. That never happened. They said the pool closed at 7pm but we saw a man and a woman naked in the pool at around 9pm (BTW when they were done, we saw them grab their things and leave on their car so basically they weren’t even staying in the hotel)

One morning we told reception to let housekeeping know not to go in our rooms and when we got back they had gone in our room.

They are very unprofessional and there is no protocol to follow by employees. Every employee does whatever they like in their occupation.

Some towels had stains on them. Some blankets had holes.

The only good thing about the hotel was the river next to the restaurant.

This Colonial-style hotel sits majestically in a sprawling, park-like setting adjacent to the Jimenoa River, which literally runs through the property. The dining area overlooks the river, and a bridge connects both sides, with a bar and gazebo on the opposite shore.

Jarabacoa is in the Dominican Republic’s Central Highlands, withing striking distance of Pico Duarte, the tallest peak in the Caribbean. The climate is much cooler than the coasts. Activities here include hiking and whitewater rafting. This region is well worth a place on your D.R. itinerary.

The ambiance here is magical. A tree grows through the center of the dining room, the tall hills serving as background with cows grazing picturesquely. The river creates a constant, soothing “white noise.” If you didn’t know better, you might think you were in the Alps, Colorado, or the U.S. Pacific Northwest.

The rooms are small-ish but very comfortable (be sure to ask for a river view). The food in the dining room is excellent. It was so good we skipped driving all the way across town our last night and enjoyed the evening in the outdoor eating area.

Children will adore this property. The rustic buildings on both sides of the river have a treehouse appearance, and in the morning, herders lead beautiful cattle through the stream on their way to grazing. I would definitely stay here again.

We had planned 3 nights at this hotel, as part of our 6 weeks in the Dominican Republic. What a BIG, BIG mistake, our stay at this hotel. The location is charming, along the river and the gardens are lovely. Food at the restaurant is adequate but not memorable. This is where the nice dream ends and the nightmare begins.
We had Room 215, w views of the river. Unfortunately, our room was on top of the restaurant, which had pounding "music" until 10:30 pm, every day. Apparently their horrific "music" system has the bass at full throttle. What a disappointment. We called several times but each day we had the same problem. We even spoke to the restaurant manager. Forget about a restful relaxing afternoon after a day of sightseeing. No way, Jose.

The rooms, we saw several by the way, need a major refurbishing, updating and renovation. They are REALLY "passe". Way, way past their prime time. We could have lived with this if not for the loud "pounding noise"( some call it music).

We really felt cheated of what we thought we were paying for. The views of the river costed us the relaxation we were looking for. Stay away if you are looking for a relaxing time.

Although it has been partly refurbished, the room we had overlooking the pool was shabby with a very small and dark bathroom. Found the floor to be dirty. The restaurant was good as was the food but a very small choice for breakfast. Their big selling point is that it is by the river but we found the banks on both sides to be cluttered with rubbish, empty bottles etc. and the small pavilion was full of rubbish. There were broken concrete rails along the terrace and some of it was blocked by yellow tape as was part of the swimming pool area. There was only one bar area, all the others were closed. Staff had limited English.

This a delightful hotel, set in a very natural location.Trees, walking bridges over small river with rapids and pools.
They have a nice separate area for weddings or convention meetings.
Extremely tranquil. Rooms are nice ,check in was fast and easy. The restaurant was above expectations both in the quality of food as well as the service. It sits at the rivers edge, extremely pleasant. Unfortunately we were only able to stay 1 night but definitely plan on returning.

Pained me to do this review at 2 stars because this was one of my favourite hotels that I’ve stayed at more then 20x. When we arrived none of the rooms were ready and we had to wait until 3:30 to even get a room. Fine.

Came to the restaurant. I quit smoking so I use a small Juul for nicotine - not a big Vape or vape that emits hume. I was in the restaurant (open) for over half an hour with my family relaxing, and the “supervisor” Carolina came charging at our table like a bull and made us move saying no smoking. She was rude and made a scene. She made us move tables where people were smoking actual cigarettes which stunk. I wasn’t smoking so whatever.

I feel less annoyed about not being able to have my vape and more annoyed about the way she startled and spoke to us. Rude and abrasive. Zero manners whatsoever. We also observed her at the bar with the staff displaying the same bad attitude. She seems to just have a terrible attitude in general and not reflective of my past visits here.

Ruined my dinner and really left me feeling bad in the hotel considering the restaurant is the only place to get food here.
