Fantastic spot. Our room was 120' from the ocean. Beautiful deep beach. Great lounge area under palapas with hammocks, lounge beds, lounge chairs for tanning.
Rooms and hotel overall are very tastefully done. Architectually and in terms of accomdations, just very nice... Not pretentious but...More

It is not a hostel; I'm not sure I have more to add than my original review. I don't know what your concerns are re: "hostel versus hotel." The rooms are private, with private baths. It is not fancy. The clientele is diverse; some young folks who cooked in the communal kitchen. You can't really buy groceries in this town. We ate all meals out - there are maybe 6 or 7 restaurants; we are content with fish and ceviche every night on a mexican beach vacation. You don't need a recommendation - it is a tiny town and you can get the lay of the land quickly. We had ceviche on the beach every day for 3 days at a place I can't remember that Bambu's owner recommended, and there are adequate breakfast places. We don't bother with pizza in mexico but it is there.
In terms of accomodations I would reiterate that there is no hot water - that was my main problem. I don't care about a pool but I like a hot shower. But I survived. We never left San Augustinillo but you could easily take a taxi to Zipolite.
