I took my family there, along with some friends. They were busy diving and sailing and jumping up and down on boats. I chose to rest after a hectic work schedule, just chilling out on my own balcony, overlooking the channel, a visual delight, constantly changing. I had one of the most beautiful days of my life, just sitting, appreciating...

About 20 of us rented the place out for a week and had the time of our lives. We went snorkeling every day, drank tuskers and wine on a different sandbank each day, went swimming with wild dolphins, ate incredibly fresh seafood at least twice a day with snacks (fresh oysters mostly) - we played and giggled for almost 5...

Very nice cottages and super service. We had a boat ride to go snorkeling off a protected island. Absolutely fantastic. Great sea food. We really recommend!

Shimoni is a small friendly village well away from the bustle and amenities of the main resorts. The Reef Lodge is one of the few tourist standard lodgings there. It is so small you soon recognise and speak to all the staff on site. Sammy always had a smile on his face when serving us and would always stop for...

This was our first stay in Kenya so we didnt know what to expect. The Shimoni Reef hotel has six cottages and main open-planned reception area with a bar, beautiful swimming pool, sitting-room with a television and dining-room which looks over the channel to Wasini Island. Our cottage was clean and roomy we had two portable fans, mosiquito net, sitting area...

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
Shimoni is full of amazing experiences……. For 20 years we have served sport fisherman, scuba divers, snorkelers, dhow trippers, honeymooners and friends to explore, discover and feel the Kenya of Old, where time has mercifully stood still, and the masses have not taken over. Now, we also offer unique accommodation, just 6 spacious comfortable cottages, a roof top suite overlooking the Wasini channel, and a residential house for visitors who prefer to do some self catering. There is also a pool, a spa service, and at our bar and restaurant, a revitalized exciting menu for our guests who just want to relax and enjoy the privacy that Shimoni is special for. ... more   less

“TRAVEL TIPS: • order your seafood in advance – the local lobster is great – and enjoy eating it watching the sunset on the terrace overlooking the channel. • allow some time just to walk around and see the real Africa . The village is a delight, and the slave cave / conservation area is interesting. • diving and snorkelling in the marine park – the hotel does not have a boat or dive school but works with dive schools in Shimoni/ Wasini Island – so you need to book your dive/boat trip in advance. They will even arrange for you to be dropped off in front of the hotel so you can avoid the walk back to the hotel from the pier.”

“In case you are with a large group the bungalow is a good idea. In case you want to have it romantic ask for the honeymoon suite with the stunning view but the cottages are certainly very good and all are steps away form the pool and the main building.”
