Average buffet saved by its hugely convenient location close to the park entrance. Didn't stay at hotel so can't judge, but would guess there must be better choices in the area. Won't do you any harm...but won't live long in the memory either.

Located very close to the national park. Every time we visit Sri Lanka we go to udawalawa. My kids like the safari and we stay at hotel niwahana. They have spacious, nice, clean rooms. The staff is very friendly and helpful. The lunch buffet has many varieties and worth for money.

Horrible place. Rooms were filthy with dust, old wooden bed frame crumbling and the food was BAD. Location is close to the National Park. That's the only positive. Fine if you're after BASIC lodging but overpriced for anything else.

Don't go here! The staff is very rude and the rooms are NOT clean. We found an old dead gecko in our room stuck in a door who looked like it had been there for a few weeks. Disgusting! And the restaurant is the worst, very bad food and awful service but still high prices. We were treated very bad...

Stayed here for one night on the advice of our driver. The room was large and clean and the hotel was in a great location, extremely close to the entrance to Udawalawe National Park - the main reason for our stay. Buffet lunch which was only 800 Rupees was excellent.

We only stayed here for one night. The hotel is clean and rooms comfortable. The ac worked well to keep the room cool and shower had hot water. The food and breakfast were tasty and filling. The hotel is very close to the Udawalawa national park entrance.

One night stay, I must add. But room was spacious and air con worked great. No mosquitos as no windows/doors are left open. Food was okay, had traditional rice and chilli paste and a chicken curry. Got breakfast to take out so I can eat while at the national park, which was handy. They have wifi but it didn't seem...

Rooms - basic. Dinner - basic. Breakfast - basic. Beer - rip-off. A small can of Lion was 300 rupees (see photo of bill). I would suggest that the massive profit made on the beer should be used to purchase sheets which actually fit the bed. The stairs are very slippery and there is no handrail. I have never seen...

The rooms themselves at Niwahana are basic but perfectly comfortable and functional. It is a 5 minute drive from the entrance to Udawalawe and they organised us a jeep for R3500 (park entry is extra - R3000 per person). Lunch was a Sri Lankan buffet and basic dinner was fine and reasonably priced. Sri Lankan breakfast (included) was delicious. The...
