I have spent one night on Lizard safari lodge and welcome is really exceptional. Nandu has organised a really nice safari for me, has prepared a good dinner for me even if i was alone. We have spent all the evening to discuss of our life and experinces around a fire he has made to cook manioc with him and his family. An amazing evening like if i was from the family. Stutti Nandu and Ayubowan.
It was an absolute pleasure to have such beautiful safari with Nandana. We had a great time at Udawalawa and since the time he has picked us he was such a caring person and he has vast knowledge about animals and Udawalawa forest. The safari was amazing and we saw plenty of animals including lots of elephants. We stayed inside the forest one night. it was an even better experience. He has given us all the necessary advices and shown us all important spots as well. Thank you so much Nandana for the amazing safari.
We had an amazing morning in the National Park with Ravi who has more than 15 years experience in the park. Even though it wasn't peak season (not the dry season) we saw so many elephants, a crocodile, water buffalo, monitors, eagles and other amazing birdlife. Ravi was expert at spotting wildlife while simultaneously navigating the rough roads in the park. Would definitely recommend for your Uda Walawa experience.
Stayed one night in a room at ground floor for 4 with Lizard Safari Lodge. Good stay with basic facilities in room (shower room did not have hanger, no proper glassdoor cover but a simple curtain). Watch out for big mosquitoes. Enjoyed the 2.5hrs safari tour arranged with them, started to go queue for entering the safari at 530am, got to catch sunrise along the way, had a simple breakfast given on the jeep. Our driver/guide was a good driver with sharp eyes watching out animals in the safari to point out to us! After returning to the lodge, we were served with sumptuous breakfast (local fusion style) before checking out. They were friendly host.
Visited this little lodge for 2 nights as a result of reading excellent reviews. My wife and I were not disappointed. It is very small tucked away on a side road. There is quite a lot of general background noise from animals and nearby families which is to be expected in Sri Lanja and adds to the experience. There are 4 rooms which I would describe as basic but perfectly adequate and amazing value for the money and service provided. We had what is described as the tree house. The room is up an outside wooden staircase with a small balcony and 2 chairs. This leads into a good sized room with a washbasin and off this a small shower and toilet. There is no AC but a more than adequate room fan. We ate at the lodge both nights and the food was excellent and all cooked by the owner Nandus mother. Our main reason for coming to this area as it is with most visitors was to visit Udawalawe Safari Park. I had read mixed reviews and having been on 12 safaris in Africa was a little apprehensive. There was no need. Nandu organised a whole day safari in one of his converted Land Rovers with his guide Indiga. We left at 6am and returned at 6 pm. Apart from stopping to purchase a day pass at the park entrance we were in the park all day. We saw very few other vehicles and spent the day having the most brilliant experience. We saw approximately 70 elephants of which about 10 were around 4 months old. There is an abundance of other wildlife and if you like birds then you will not be disappointed by the numbers and variety. The scenery is lovely and constantly changing with some very picturesque waterholes either full of water buffaloes and/or elephants. Nandu provided us with an excellent breakfast and lunch which we ate at different viewpoints. All this for £66 each which was great value for a whole day. The following day we visited the elephant relocation centre (about 5 mins by car) in time to see the elephants getting their first milk feed at 9am. Cost 500 rupees each. Well worth a visit and what a great job they are doing. It is also worth spending a few minutes in the visitor centre learning about Asian elephants. This is included in the ticket price. If you get a chance to stay at Lizard Safari Lodge you should take it as you will not be disappointed.…
I'm appalled with the resort owner's attitude towards the issue of my credit card bill for my stay at the resort being double charged. This was amounting over USD$200. On the day of check-out, he had some troubles, according to him internet connection that led to my credit card being double charged. I noticed the double charge in my credit card statement when I got home from my holiday. My bank (HSBC) has asked me to contact him. I sent him a few emails but did not get any response. I eventually called the resort & only managed to speak to him after a few attempts. I sent him my bank details & he promised he'll refund the money. It's been months, I was there with my family in April! Even after more emails, I did receive any refund. It is appalling that the owner, Nandana has taken this issue for granted. He clearly is aware that the money does not belong to him and has to be refunded but failed to act accordingly. I still haven't received my refund until today. It was 5 months ago when I was at the resort! Totally unacceptable!…
Nandu was a fantastic host. We had a full day safari with all food included and would definitely recommend. We played a few card games and were taught an Indian game, Cirrom, which we played with Nandu and the guy who sorted the food out (I can’t remember his name). Don’t expect luxury, but facilities were more than adequate. There was a massive bed with mosquito net. We had a balcony with chairs and a table to sit out on. The food in the evening was great and not in short supply! Don’t hesitate in booking at Lizard Safari Lodge with Nandu.
We stayed two nights at the lizard safari lodge and it was an awesome experience. Stayed in the deluxe room with aircon which was one of the more comfortable rooms we have been in in Sri Lanka. We organised a safari through the lodge and it was excellent. We opted for the full day but you can probably just do the half day as most of the animals don’t come out much in the afternoon. Be warned the safari doesn’t include a ‘guide’ so people may ask if you want a guide at the gate to the national park. We didn’t opt for a guide as our driver was very knowledgeable and we didn’t feel we missed anything - but you will need to tip them at the end. The food was delicious and very generous- we definitely ate our fill. After the safari Nandu even taught us how to play Carrum which was a highlight. Would definitely recommend.…
Awesome staff. We've been warmly welcome. Had a welcome tea. - Room was pretty big. Very clean. Bed was comfy. - Had a big & tasty dinner. It was Barbecue night when we were there. So we've been sharing a really nice moment with the staff & the others guests around a fire before dinner. And shared tables during the dinner. - We've also been to a safari the next morning. It's been an awesome experience. The driver we had was looking to avoid all this jeeps driving around. So we've been driving the opposite way. We've been alone for more than half of the safari. And had some wonderful moments with Elephants, Birds, etc... Just Do it. · - We wish we could have stayed longer in this little paradise. We'll be back !
We stayed here for one night and did the morning safari. Our driver was nice and spotted a lot animal, even during driving. We would recommend their safari tour. We got an aircon room which was nice, the only problem we had that the roof was leaking somehow so water was dripping constantly at the head of the bed while it was raining. The rooms w/o aircon are upstairs and have a little terrace while the more deluxe rooms do not; we really missed it as it would have been good to be able to sit somewhere outside of our very dark room during the afternoon. The place is in the middle of nowhere which feels like a bit back in the nature but it also means no snacks or food nearby, you have to walk 1 km at least. No bikes and no lunch were available that time. We also had dinner which was OK but nothing special. Their breakfast was much more delicious. The dinner is a bit overpriced for what we got. Overall it was nice to be there for one night.…
