Over the past 30 years I have stayed at this hotel multiple times. It is very much a hidden gem on the outskirts of Oban. It has a wide selection of rooms available and this time I decided to splurge and stay in room 35, which is a split level luxury room. It benefits from an upstairs bedroom/sitting room with a king-size bed with a unique headboard. The furnishings are bespoke and there is a wooden rocking chair and a chaise langue. The bathroom is on the lower level with a deep soaking corner tub. The room is spacious and very comfortable. It has a small balcony with a table and chairs for summer use. The view over the countryside and loch is quite spectacular. In winter time these rooms are very heavily discounted and this makes them a huge bargain. There is also a garden open to residents, and this leads down to the loch.

Since the days of resident owners Mrs Webster and Miss Innis the hotel has lost some ground is in relation to the reception staff, who are not always welcoming or friendly. Smiles and an attempt at rapport building would help. Breakfast is included with a continental buffet now added and cooked items being made to order. The more mature local ladies who used to work here have now retired and that is a huge loss to the hotel, though one lady in her late 40s or early 50s was incredible. I ate dinner in the bistro on my first night and that lacked quality in regard to the quality of the hamburger meat. I would have given a five star rating where it not for these two areas.

Nevertheless, this made for a pleasant three night stay and made a wonderful central location for both Oban and the area towards Glencoe and Fort William.
One thing that did particularly impress me was the fact that there must be communication between the dining room and the cleaning staff as rooms tend to be serviced whilst guests are taking breakfast. I liked that.

I have been visiting this hotel for many years, ever since Mrs Webster and Miss Innis ran it with panache and style. Now they are gone and I believe it is still run by the family. Very refreshing to enjoy a hotel that is individual and not part of a chain.
The Falls of Lora is located about 5 miles outside of Oban and overlooks the loch and the mountains. There is ample parking and it boasts a variety of rooms, ranging in size and price from a single cabin room to spacious luxury ones. Over the years I have stayed in many of them but now tend to favour the comfort of the more specialist ones. There is also a Bistro and bar, which has recently been refurbished and which still enjoys an open fire in the middle of the space. The new design is an excellent balance between being modern whilst still retaining the charm and character of the past.

Room 35 is a split level room that has a small balcony overlooking the gardens and the loch. It has a very large bed that has a lot of character and the room is spacious and attractively furnished. The bathroom is on the lower level and benefits from a large corner tub with a separate stand alone shower cubicle. There is ample storage space.

Breakfast is included in all rates and there is a cold buffet and hot dishes are individually prepared and served. All food items were fresh and the staff were warm and friendly.

The Bistro is greatly improved and as well as the a ’la carte menu there is a weekly special that is very good value. There is plenty of choice. All food items were fresh and generous and I was so impressed by the quality I decided to eat in for a 2nd evening.

There was a very high focus placed on Covid safety standards and all staff wore masks. I was particularly impressed to see the Bistro staff individually sanitising every page of the menu folders and it definitely made me feel safe and secure. The Bistro and bar staff were very friendly.

This is the only place I would stay in the Oban area and it is most definitely a hidden treasure. In the off season winter months the room rates are heavily discounted, making this a true bargain.

Stayed here one night on a work trip.

The experience was mostly good. All staff were very helpful and polite. I was given a room on the top floor with a good view to the water and Connell Bridge. The room itself was relatively small but contained everything you could need and had retained some traditional features. The furniture was heavy and dark but of good quality. I couldn't get the window open - I understand hotels don't want windows to open wide for safety but it would be good to be able to open it a little for ventilation. However, the radiator could be turned off so the room was not too hot.

The bed was super comfy. Unfortunately the duvet, though very good quality, was far too heavy for me and this meant I was too warm to sleep really well. However, the room was quiet and the road outside didn't really have any traffic on it till about 6am.

En-suite shower room was quite poky but was modern and clean. Shower was fine, not the most powerful, but adequate.

There was plenty of choice of food in the Bistro. It's the first time I've encountered Frickles on a menu. Interesting but I don't think I would order them myself. The foed was served quickly. It was pub food standard, but priced appropriately for the quality and quantities were certainly generous. A couple of open fires in the Bistro area helped with the atmosphere. We weren't drinking but the whisky bar looked tempting.

Breakfast has a restricted menu from 7.30 till 8.00, when the full range becomes available. In practice even the restricted menu had plenty of choice of cooked things if you needed to be away early, as we did. And it was served speedily and politely.

Overall, a decent hotel, good value and I would happily stay again. A tad quirky in decor and style but nothing you can't live with and embrace.

Stayed here for 2 nights whilst on business at nearby SAMS 10 minutes down the road.

Stayed in a small double with loch views (49) which was clean and comfortable with a reasonable amount of off road parking on arrival.

Good free Wi-fi for dealing with customer emails etc and desk to work at.

Food at dinner and breakfast was great but want really made the stay was the wonderfully friendly staff who were all brilliant.

Obviously times are a bit different currently so lots of hand sanitiser around the place, allocated times to eat and details provided for contact tracing...felt very safe.

Beautiful part of the world and if you head for the railway station or the road leading to the Connel bridge you can pick up a cycle path that runs to and from Oban.

My partner and I visited the restaurant last night, to which we were provided with excellence customer service from the onset. We ordered a Sirloin steak (medium rare) and the chilli burger. They were both incredibly delicious and cooked perfectly. Measures were in place to ensure social distancing and hand sanitizer points were placed appropriately. Face masks were worn by staff and customers when walking around the hotel and restaurant. We will 100% be returning.

Last minute booking so small double with car park view no problem
Cosy on arrival meal booked no problem.
Meal was lovely, presented well and enjoyable,
Fair price.
Room as described small and no real view, bed comfy and clean en-suite Would benefit from a tad more space.
The sitting room with gas fire is lovely we sat there rather than the room and was able to work and relax easily.
But you can’t rate the fellow residents
Unfortunately for us the chap above fell sleep with his TV on, we gave him the benefit of the doubt till midnight but then I was going into sleep exhaustion so had to go to reception to try and wake him.
The lovely night porter tried his best but no amount of gentle knocking was gonna wake this chap so I ended up in the lounge on a sofa until 4 when my partner message to say tv was off.
How do I know it was a chap …
Because at 5.30 he got up showered, used the toilet and enjoyed good morning Britain from 6.00 thrown in with some obviously male singing ….
Definitely a sense of humour needed.
and wen reported to the receptionist on checking out she couldn’t apologise enough but what more could they do in a fully booked establishment.
She kindly deducted monies off the room but in fact it wasn’t there fault and in trying to wake the resident we would have probably woken the whole floor.
Breakfast good quality, excellent service no complaints.
Totally a bad luck night and hasn’t changed my mind on the hotel review 4/5

we booked about 4 hours before we left and were lucky enough to get a room for the 2 nights. We had a great welcome and we thought the room we were getting was at the back but we were upgraded with a view across the loch to North Connel. The room was spotless and had everything we needed. We booked dinner and breakfast upon arrival and i will tell you the chefs are top notch i had the fillet and my wife had the sirloin they melted in your mouth. By the way mon tues and wed is the half price scheme run by the government and it is advisable to book ahead. The host Micheal was very welcoming and couldn't do enough for us all in all we had a great 2 night stay with a little fishing thrown in 2 seatrout and 2 brown trout great fun. By the way they do a great packed lunch

My husband booked this hotel for a weekend away shortly after they opened. When we arrived, we were very fortunate to have been upgraded to a beautiful room at front of hotel with the most amazing views! Toiletries were rituals and tea tray was all best quality items. Covid procedures were being followed throughout the hotel to the highest standard. There is nothing I could think off that made me feel unsafe.
We ate in the restaurant our second night and were wishing we had eaten both nights. Great menu at great prices. Staff were very attentive and nothing was a problem for them. I had the fillet steak served with rice in a creamy sauce and it was superb. Husband had the haddock and chips and everything down to the tartare sauce was homemade.
When checking out, we spoke with the manager who explained that they have done a lot of refurbishment to the hotel and still have lots planned, we had asked where we could get a ‘proper’ coffee for our journey home and she went to the trouble of making some for us.
We will definitely be back and hope that through their changes, they don’t lose their charm. A true gem.

Firstly, the good points...... friendly, talkative and efficient staff throughout our stay, from reception, through dinner and then at breakfast time. I should also commend the food we ate at dinner. Might have just been scampi and a burger, but they were done well and tasted really good. The deserts were good as well, as was the wine.

But, a number of issues that just don't sit right when you spend £260+ on a one night stay.

Firstly, although the room was big (room 43 with a sort of 4 poster bed) and had a great view over the sea loch and towards the bridge, it was tired and dated. However, the main issue was the enormous bath (image attached) which had a shower attachment, but there was no separate shower and so you had to kneel in the bath and use one hand to operate/direct the shower head while you washed, or you could shower each other as we ended up doing!1 Not really a great bathroom experience in the 21st century. Funny thing is the bathroom is huge and you could have a massive walk on shower area instead. Given the size of the bath it would have taken ages to fill if you'd gone down that route.

In the morning the hot breakfast arrived at our table - not very hot at all. That was quite disappointing, especially as we'd hoped to end on a high after a very poor nights sleep. It is advertised as a HOT breakfast and not getting these small but important things right just spoils the experience completely.

At 2am, for 30 minutes, a small group of people had gathered outside the front of the hotel, beneath our room. They were very noisy and a car was there too playing very loud music. They eventually dispersed of their own accord once a taxi arrived for some of them, but it completely ruined our sleep, after a very long and tiring day for us. I have NOT taken this into account in my rating as it wasn't really in the control of the hotel...... or was it?

Unfortunately, we won't stay here again..... and it's only the food we enjoyed that stopped me rating the stay as 'Poor'.

Myself and several of my co-workers had been staying at the Falls of Laura for several weeks whilst we carry out work in the area. I cannot speak highly enough of the hotel staff from cleaners, reception workers, kitchen staff and the manager and owners. During our stay we found ourselves in the start of the Covid 19 pandemic and the Hotel closed its doors to new customers but as myself and my colleagues are classed as key workers and the work in the area is vital in keeping the railway infrastructure running the Falls of Laura looked after us brilliantly until we could make alternative arrangements. So not only is the food in the restaurant fantastic the beds in the rooms excellent, the rooms spotless and the staff friendly and helpful they also deserve special thanks for going above and beyond in allowing to stay that bit longer than everyone else.

I hope to come back and stay again in better times.
Many thanks.

Hi David had 2 great holidays last 2 years in your fabulous country but jeez these flights!!!. Both above suggestions are good for pit stops. Luss is about a quarter of the way there, Tyndrum about half the way there and has a wide range of facilities but not the charm of Luss. Depending how tired you feel and when you stop there is another place on the A85 quite a bit after Tyndrum called Inverewe Smokehouse signposted off main road. Delightful home baking in a lovely setting with some short walks available to stretch your legs. Enjoy your holiday

In actual fact, reception for cell phones was stronger and clearer around Oban and Connel than it is at my home: you will have no difficulty at all. We use both Vodaphone and EE. Geoff
