We'd read the rather negative comments about the Barao Center, but having been kicked off our riverboat at close to midnight (we were running 12 hours+ late) we took a chance - and what a pleasant surprise! So much so that, after our stay in Alto do Chao, we booked four more nights. OK it's not luxuriously finished, but it's clean, with comfortable beds - and the staff are just wonderful: patient with our inadequate Portuguese, helpful in finding the right shape adaptor plugs, great service from reception, housekeeping and bar staff (the rooftop restaurant was closed 'for refurbishment'). And there's a really nice Swiss/Brazilian lady who cooks the breakfast eggs, as part of a decent morning spread. It's very conveniently situated for buses to A do C and the airport and for shops and restaurants. Two eating places in particular: El Mexicano, just five minutes walk away, and the suco bar, Mourao, around the corner on Avenida Rui Barbosa, friendly and clean ,great for juices and snacks. More

This is the most expensive hotel in santarem. Location is bad, rooms are good, however bathroom is too small and infested by bugs. Hotel lobby is nice, restaurant serves good food, high speed wifi internet works everywhere and is free for guests, but rooms are simply not confortable. Hotel is twice the price from the other hotels, and all they don't ever offer shampoo and other toiletries, only ONE bar of soap. My experience in this hotel was not good, and next time will try another cheaper hotel. More
