Detailed Reviews
The choice of staying here was made by a friend. IT certainly turned out to be a great choice, We were a group of old friends and we could not have asked for a better experience. We were greeted by the friendly staff on arrival and they were very attentive to all our need. In fact some electric points were not working in the room allotted to me and I was upgraded to an other room till the next day when the resort had things back in Order.
the rooms are quite basic but clean and neat. the food was very good, like home food and had a wide variety. The Evening bonfires were a great place to chat around. .All in all a great place and cheers to Mr. Dennis for his exceptional hospitality.

Dear Sir, Thanks for your review. We are glad that you had enjoyed your stay with us. We are sorry for the inconvenience on the first day as the micro circuit breaker was tripping when you wanted to use the electric kettle and one of the power points was not working. We had started with Standard and Deluxe Rooms which are basic. Our Executive and Premium Rooms are better furnished. The new Valley View facing rooms will be still better appointed. We are happy that you had enjoyed our food. They are prepared by home makers and does not upset one's stomach especially when guests stay with us for many days. We shall look forward to be of service to you and to other members of your family and to your friends circle. Thanks for your review. We appreciate it. Denis P.Rayen

We have seamless check-in experience. Stuffs are dedicated to make your stay comfortable, so is the owner.
Room has all the facilities required, including the tea/coffee maker, even they gave us electric heater as we were feeling a bit cold. Cleanliness is awesome. Fresh set of towels and bed linens were provided, bathroom is sanitized and clean.
Sleep quality is good, however in morning (near 7:00 Am) we heard the noise from the roof, as they have open air rooftop breakfast arrangement and it seems, someone was dragging the table/chairs.
Location wise, we don't find that great, especially most of the attraction is towards Shora, which is additional 30 mins ride by car, the only closest attraction was double tier living root bridge. Although view from the resort, especially from the roof of the breakfast area is awesome.
We went through a package, and thus the car and guide were arranged by them, which I would recommend almost everybody. The all-inclusive vegetarian food was included, however we found food is average and we didn't like that much, breakfast spread is not that great. Dinner also we didn't like and most of the prep we found very bland and less salty. In fact, we went to Jiva Grill for one day dinner and found that was much more palatable to our taste.
overall our stay was average, and had a great expectation based on the reviews, however especially food wise it was disappointing.

Dear Mr.Saptarshi Kundu, Thank you very much for your honest review of our property, based on your stay with us in January 2023. Thank you for appreciating the facilities we offer. You rightly mentioned that our property is located, 30 mins away from Sohra/Cherrapunjee town closer to the Double Decker Root Bridge & other Living Root Bridges of this area. Sightseeing locations are spread across Cherrapunjee, hence where ever one stays, some tourist spots may be closer and others further away. Our property is among those with good views-- on one side it the mountains, on another side its the view of the village below and on the third side its the view of the Bangladesh plains. We have created 2000+ sq ft of terrace space for guests to enjoy these views, apart from arranging activities like live music, campfires and an interesting morning walk. We are sorry that food during your stay was not to your liking. This looks like the period when incidentally, our head chef was on leave. We thank you for your feedback; we shall take care to train the other cooks to bring them up to standard. Thank you very much for taking the time and effort to write this constructive review, Sir. We shall use your inputs to improve our services.

We visited this resort in the month of May. I'm an avid traveler and from South of India. Without a doubt the hospitality we enjoyed at the resort is the BEST we have ever hard. The staff is all women and very courteous despite many questions you have about the sight seeing options. The walk down the resort into the Lainkyntsew village is very charming.. interacting with the small children and family was very pleasing. The village also has a primary health care center which is well maintained with quality staff. The view in front of the resort and from the Rooms is awe-inspiring to see the valley. Please go for the deluxe rooms on the top floor for best view.
The kitchen in the resort serve very delicious vegetarian food including South Indian and any made to order. The owner of the resort stays in the same place and that shows their commitment to providing the best hospitality and service. They go to any extend 24-hour to make you feel better.
Please dont miss the walk around the property and in the village down the resort. They can also arrange for a pick up from Guwahati airport if needed.

We had taken a premium room. We had taken 3 rooms as we were 6 adults. To start with the pillows were very hard. The hotel switch off the lights to save on electricity at about 12 am to 5 am. There is no a/c in the rooms. The food has very limited variety and not great. We had taken breakfast/high tea and dinner. If you don't like the tea and if you tell them to improvised, they say charges are extra. Even if you tell them about nan Or roti to be provided in wheat, then they say it will be charged extra. The persons serving buffet does not understand English or Hindi as they are local aged womans. I recommend not to go there. I give them 1 star rating.

Response from Cherrapunjee Holiday Resort, Owner at Cherrapunjee Holiday Resort
Responded 9 Apr 2023
Dear Sir, Thank you for your review. I am sorry for your unfortunate experience. 1. The pillows are from a reputed company. If you had requested for some softer pillows, we could have arranged it for you. 2. We have provided standby Battery Inverter Power Supply and Generator Power too in case the Power from the Grid fails. During the month of April and May we get severe thunderstorms which causes transformer burn outs and failure of electric gadgets because when lightning strikes the transmission lines there is a surge in power of thousands of volts . When such instances occur the Power Grid people switch off power supply and restore power supply after the storm passes away. Since we have battery back up, power is not an issue at all at the Resort. Certainly, we are not trying to save money by switching off Power Supply. 3. We accept that we do not have A/C in our Rooms. The Max temperature hardly gets beyond 30 degree Celsius for 7 days or so in a year. We position ourselves as an Eco-Resort in serene natural surroundings populated by friendly people. If need be we shall consider provision of A/Cs in the Rooms in the future. 4. I am sorry for your experience wrt your masala tea and Wheat based Roti or Naan that had happened due to one of our inexperienced service staff when I had gone to attend the Maundy Thursday Service in the Church . After you had given your feedback to me on the next day morning, I had an interactive session with all our Staff and explained to them on this account so that any such incident does not occur in the future. We have also taken a call that special masala Tea will be provided to one and all in the buffet. 5. We brought this work to this village, because this village is very scenic sitting atop Laitkynsew Hill overlooking a 3000 feet deep valley where during the monsoon over 18 large waterfalls drain into the valley thereby creating a mesmerisizing sight and the flat plains of Bangladesh stretches to the horizon on the other side thereby providing a great contrast. We have promoted many Nature Walks and Treks around this place, named and promoted the Living Root Bridges including the Double Decker Root Bridges which attract hundreds of people every day. It is our endeavour to engage our local people to empower them to make a good living for themselves and help move the society forward. Usually our village people are able to communicate well in English and they are not comfortable in Hindi. Normally I am around or one of Reception Staff helps out if there is any confusion in communication. We do get people from across the World and the Service Staff are able to attend to the Guests comfortably. The House Keeping and Clearance Staff may not be able to communicate well in English and they usually will refer any Guests wanting to communicate to the Reception or Service Staff. If you look at the whole issue as an individual who is helping to take forward our own people to a better life and empowering them to move forward economically and socially your holiday would have been much richer than the small material comforts that you feel you had not got at our place and that would have impaled into the background. 6. We take this as a learning experience and we will definitely improve the value we provide for your money and our Service Standards. We thank you for helping us to grow. Denis P.Rayen

This is a charmingly beautiful place located away from the city and is quiet and peaceful. (The hotel can arrange for a cab/driver if required and the place is easily accessible via google maps, so no accessibility issues.)
I stayed in a premium room, which is quite spacious and well-lit and has a beautiful view from the window. All the facilities provided were quite good, it was extremely comfortable and felt like home. The staff members were also generally very warm and welcoming. Food was good as well.
We had a wonderful time in Cherrapunjee on our various adventure trips, also courtesy the enthusiastic guide and the cab drivers, which the resort arranged for us.
If you are a nature and an adventure buff, Cherrapunjee is the place to be. If you are looking for a calm and serene place away from all the noise and the hustle of the city, then Cherrapunjee Holiday Resort is the place to stay.

Dear Madam, Thank you very much for your Five Star Rating and Great Review. We are grateful for your Review. We are very happy that you liked your stay with us and enjoyed your nature outings. For 18 years we used to spend our holidays in this place when we come to visit our relations here. We built this Resort starting with just 6 Rooms. We have been slowly growing over the years. The idea is to open up this place to tourists and to create employment opportunities to our rural youth while providing a source of livelihood for ourselves. The property is 23 years old and all other properties in Sohra area have come many years after that. The Living Root Bridges and the Double Decker Root Bridge promoted by us have grown in popularity and attract tourists from abroad too. It has brought economic vibrancy to this whole area where many didn't see any opportunity. When you go happy and remember your stay with us it gives us immense satisfaction. Thanks a Million.

Property is located approx 10km from Sohra centre and reached via a winding road that is being asphalted. The resort is clean, rooms airy and most importantly, the staff are very welcoming and helpful. Food has that homecooked feel and tasty too. Apart from the fixed vegetarian fare, we could also order non veg items. We used a guide and must say, Fedric is very good at his job. The evening campfire with live music by the boys from the village is an added bonus. Angela, who helps in managing the resort, helped us curate a super itinerary which made for a truly memorable visit.

Thank you very much for your Five Star Rating. We had built the Resort in the scenic mountain top village Laitkynsew which is a little beyond Cherrapunjee town from where one can see over 18 waterfalls from the Resort itself during the monsoon months, to bring employment opportunites to our village youth 21 years back, when there was not a single accommodation for tourists in the entire Cherrapunjee area. We had named and promoted the Living Root Bridges including the Double Decker Root Bridge to create great activity holidays for the guests and opportunities for guiding to our youth and with an idea of helping our youth meet people from across the world, thereby opening their eyes to the world and immediately providing hard cash in their hands. We enjoy interacting with people from different corners of the world and crafting individual itineraries according to the taste and inclination of the guests to make their holidays unforgetable and a source of joy whenever they recollect their stay at the Resort. Thanks a Million for giving us this opportunity.

We had lunch at this place though we didn't stay here..
The food was awesome and delicious.. Especially, the rasam is amazing.. We ordered a thali/meals which costs around 250/- but worth it. The rice is unlimited. You don't get curd and that could be a drawback.. The place is centrally located and might be good for stay as well..
They also serve ice creams. Not a lot of flavours you get but the taste is good..

The resort is set away from main Sohra village. It is a lovely drive (although steep and narrow) and really gives of feeling of peace and seclusion.
The staff is very courteous and try to make one as comfortable as possible, despite a bit of language constraints.
The food is excellent, a mix of local, north and south cuisine. We enjoyed the parathas, noodles and rasam especially.
The evening bonfire and live music also added to the ambience.
The rooms open into the dining area which is a bit odd. However since only families are admitted, there wasn't any disturbance,
The owner Mr Rayen is a very pleasant and knowledgable person. he gave us some good inputs on where to go.
Overall, a great place to unwind and relax.

Dear Mr.Pravin, I am sorry for the late response because I saw your review just now. Some Reviews had missed our attention. 1. Our Resort is built in my wife's village which has a scenic view of the valley and the plain of Bangladesh. The reason for locating the Resort is here is first to bring employment opportunities the youth of the area so that they can find gainful employment in their own village and help them to meet people from across India and abroad to help them to open their eyes to the world and the possibilites. The village is 15 km from Sohra. 2. Our Staff are all from the village and they are being trained to provide the Service. They have come a long way and I am sure the language constraints you might have faced will be a thing of the past soon. 3. Since we started with a very small capital we had to plan and execute the Project within our small means. That is how the Rooms open into the Common Lobby and that doubles up as Dining Area too. We understand your concern. We are building a new building which we expect to go operational by early next year. Once that building is ready to be put in use, the Deluxe and Standard Rooms that open into the Common Lobby and Dining Area will all be taken as part of the Dining Space till a new Dining Area is built. The problem of Rooms opening into the Common Lobby and Dining Space will be thus resolved. Thanks for sharing your observations and reservations. We appreciate it. They help us to fine tune our operations and grow. Thanks a Ton.

We went there in the first week of May 2023, we reached there mid afternoon. The staff were extremely welcoming and homely. The property is located with scenic beauty on both sides of the well thought of terrace designed to capture the view. One side we can see the hills of Cherrapunji on the other the plains of Bangladesh. The evening was filled with a surprise entertainment from the local band. The food was also very thoughtfully made keeping in mind the sensitivities of vegetarians and they had a options for non veg eaters as well. Special shoutout to the owners and their family who made us feel so welcomed. I would recommend this place to anyone who is looking for the true experience of being one with the locals.

You may go in August only if the rain subsides by then, as its little risky to tavel to cherapunjee in heavy rains. Though the nature would be breathtakingly beautiful in rains.
The pricing for various rooms is given on their website and we were charged exactly according to that only. I am not being allowed to paste the link to their website but you can google it out anyway.
You could try speaking to the folks at Cherrapunjee Holiday resort. They are quite helpful - 9615338500
Thanks for your query. Standard Room costs Rs.5000/-, Deluxe Room Rs.5400/-, Executive Room Rs.6000/- and Premium Room Rs.6500/-. All these Rooms come with Complimentary Buffet Breakfast, Buffet Vegetarian Dinner, Complimentary Bonfire on dry days, Complimentary Guided Morning Walk through the Picturesque Laitkynsew Village. The above Rates are effective from 1st April 2021 to 30th September 2021. We are having a Special Offer Going till 31st March 2021 - Standard @ Rs.3800/-, Deluxe @ Rs.4250/-, Executive @ Rs.4800/- and Premium @ Rs.5400/-.
The Resort is perched on the top of Laitkynsew hill, with a 3000 feet deep valley to its North where during the monsoon months one can see over 18 waterfalls disgorging tremendous amount of rain water. The view during the monsoon months is clearer after the rains and the visibility extends far. On the South side we can see the Sylhet Plains of Bangladesh. On clear days one can see Sylhet, Chattuck and Sonamganj from the Resort and also the Surma river winding its ways from Sylhet to Chattuck and Sonamganj. In winter the day clarity can be less if there is much dew formation at night. If there is a good breeze, the fog is swept away and the visibility across the hills and across the plains can be good. Else, it can be opaque. To the West of the Resort lies Laitkynsew Village as seen from the top, with the houses constructed on both sides of the Road that is built on the top of the ridge and the forests populating the sloping sides of the ridge.
