The Grand View is a little mis-named because there is no “grand view” especially from a side room which is where I stayed. It is situated on top of the “Tescoo Store” which has the same branding that we all recognize but that extra ‘”o” and no groceries. Love it! The hotel begins with reception and the restaurant on the 2nd floor (3rd for Americans). Reception is pretty small but has seating benches and is clean and functional. The staff speak reasonable English and were very helpful. They really wanted us to like the hotel and Bangladesh. The only lift is tiny and slow but eventually gets the job done. My room was pretty spacious with 2 queen size beds that were reasonably comfortable, a bonus after some of the rock hard mattresses in other Bangladeshi hotels. There was also a desk and chair, mini fridge with a few drinks inside, small flat screen TV on the wall and a ceiling fan. There was also an A/C unit which I didn’t use. I also didn’t turn the TV on but one of my fellow guests complained that there was no English-language news channel. Being at the side my small window looked out on the wall of another building about a meter away. The downside was the lack of light but with the upside of it being much quieter than rooms at the front and back was ample consolation. The floor was carpeted which is unusual in Bangladeshi hotels. Everything was clean and unscuffed. The bathroom was really tiny with an unenclosed shower squeezed between the sink and the toilet, both of which were awash after use of the shower. The hot water ran cold really quickly even with just a brief shower. There was free wifi which was easy to use and stable but ran very slow some of the time. The breakfast buffet was fairly standard but ample. I had some laundry done which came back within 24 hours neatly packaged in individual clear bags. It was only later that I discovered all my stuff had been washed together and one garment had bled deep blue dye onto everything light coloured. Not the end of the world but irritating On balance the Grand View is a reasonable choice in Sylhet particularly with the lovely staff who go above and beyond to help.…
One review questioned the view but our room looked over a quiet courtyard with leafy palm trees (room 406). Bathroom was large and clean, clean room, comfortable and clean bed. Complimentary fresh fruit was provided which was gratefully accepted.. The restaurant did a varied and decent breakfast, but for some reason, perhaps being the only foreigners, we were presented with freshly prepared rice, curry and vegetables which we simply could not eat on top of the buffet breakfast but it was a nice gesture. The hotel is situated close to shops and restaurants that are worth visiting - Woondaal and Panshi.

It is a three star hotel and is not too bad but it does not have a "grand View"! Reception is slow and cumbersome as are the rest of the staff. Do watch out for mis-billing. Keep copies of your receipts. The rooms are not too bad and have basic facilities. Do remember that Sylhet is a remote town close to the northern border with Assam and so do not expect too much. If you stick to staples like rice, dal and mutton curry, the food should be OK. The rooms are clean as were the bathrooms. They need to get better staff and sack the manager!
I have visited with my family this hotel for two nights. When I check in this hotel greet them from myself to them. Even I greet them they do not reply. Most of the employee of this hotel are not groomed. All staff I have seen beard bunch in the face. Room is small and clean. Reception is the mirror of the hotel, but the receptionist were not good welcoming when I am checking out one of the receptionist sit in chair lying on foot in front of the guest. In hotel behaviour it is not acceptable. Overall they need more training for about hotel SOP and about grooming and greetings. And this is my first vist of this hotel.
