Appenzell is a small town probably better known for winter than summer visitors. As I am here on a group tour, the hotel was chosen for me. I believe there are 38 rooms (?) On 4 floors. It's quaint and the room and bathroom are good sizes. The hotel is not air conditioned and there is no cross ventilation or fan to cool the room... leaving the window open for some kind of air movement subjects you to the hourly church bell and the hotel is across the street so it's quite loud. The site says it's equipped with toiletries... liquid soap period. The bed has one of those horrible all in one comforter/sheets which is far too hot for any sleep..the sheets might be 200thread count, so scratchy and uncomfortable with a single flat pillow to sleep on. Breakfast buffet is decent. Would have never chosen this hotel myself and would not come back.

Top locations, very central in Appenzell. Welcoming staff, cozy rooms, luxurious bathroom and fantastic food at the ‚Säntis Hotel‘ which is connected to the Hotel Hecht. Value for money is impressive!

The Hotel was beautiful, with a very central location in the Village of Appenzell. The room was very spacious and the service was great. The breakfast had a big selection of local breads, charcuterie, as well as fruits, Juices and coffee. I can recommend this hotel wholeheartedly

While I was staying here, I unfortunately became I’ll and had to go to hospital, leaving the rest of my group to go on without me. I felt very frightened and alone, however when I arrived back from the hospital, the staff put me to bed and then crept in every few hours to check on me. As soon as they saw I was awake, they brought me hearty soup to feed me. Honestly, they couldn’t have been kinder, they looked after me for a full week, till I was able to go on with my trip! It is weird when you’re sick overseas, not hearing your own language, not feeling able to explain just what is wrong. But with the staff at this hotel, there was no need to worry, they just looked after me as though I was a relative. I can’t recommend them more highly!

Staff could communicate in English, even tho I think I was the only non German speaker . Room , toilet and bathroom room : spotlessly clean. Asked for a foam pillow. Not a problem. A note ( not criticizing) , was unseasonably warm . No AC . Was a challenge. Nice breakfast buffet . All in all very pleasant.

We stayed one night at Hotel Hecht and it was good. The room was modern and well cleaned. The staff was friendly and welcoming. The breakfast was good but the breakfast room lacked atmosphere. The prices were a bit too high for the quality and overall experience.

This is a lovely little Rick Steves recommendation. Super clean rooms with modern amenities, yet still retains it’s classic charm. We had our car and found parking about 150m away, across from the brewery. Breakfast is the standard cold buffet with boiled eggs, but it’s ample. Appenzell is the perfect base for exploring the region by car. Just be warned if you stay at Hotel Hecht: there’s no air conditioning so, if you need to sleep with the windows open, the church bells ring hourly—all night—and then really get going around 0630.

Appenzell is a small village and for practical purposes, every hotel is in town center. Decent service, good room ( don’t know why I got upgraded with a separate bedroom and small sitting room, may be because I always book direct skipping all intermediaries). Standard breakfast. Be your own porter for luggages. Has a lift but still need some steps. Appenzell village is the place to stay if you are exploring Appenzell region. It is preferable than using St Gallen as a base. Public parking easily accessible one block away, free in weekend but pay during the week.
