This is an amazing hotel in every aspect. It is a family ran business who clearly cares about the fine details that make you feel welcome! The rooms are large and bright and the cafe exceptional. We ate 2/3 dinners here plus one lunch simply because of the great menu!

After our 6-day stay here we have concluded that this is probably the best-run hotel we have ever stayed at. The room was very comfortable, although some less soft pillows would have been appreciated. We noted the absence of a safe in the room, but felt it was probably not a necessity in this part of Switzerland, nor in this hotel, and we left some valuables in the room during the day quite happily. Everywhere is exceptionally clean (something that many hotel chains struggle to achieve these days!), and the staff are second to none - helpful, friendly, courteous at all times. We had breakfast and dinner here each day, and the food is superb. We will almost certainly return to Appenzell at some time and will automatically book a room at this hotel. A very big thank you to Stephan, Denise, and their staff for making our holiday so enjoyable.

We loved staying at this charming hotel. Our room was updated and very comfortable and the bathroom was beautifully modern. The hotel, which offers free on-site parking and an elevator, is conveniently located in the adorable village of Appenzell. All of the employees were friendly and efficient. But the absolute best thing about this cute hotel is that they served the best food we had on our entire extended Switzerland vacation! The breakfasts were beautifully displayed and offered a large selection. The freshly baked breads and pastries from their own on-site bakery and the delicious cooked to order eggs were looked forward to each morning. The dinner we had was the highlight meal of our trip! And I can’t leave out that they also have an on-site ice cream shop in the bakery that serves the yummiest homemade ice cream extravaganzas ever! We would definitely stay at this sweet hotel again and would recommend it to others!

From the moment we arrived in this charming town and saw the facade of the Hotel Appenzell, I felt as if I had truly arrived in Switzerland. We only stayed for one night but it was a delightful place to stay. Our room was large with Old World Charm. We ate dinner in their dining room and it was very good. Breakfast was also good and before we left we went to their bakery area and they made sandwiches for us to take with us to eat on our train trip. We took a great hike up above Appenzell where we had great views of the whole area. We would definitely recommend a stay here!

It was a nice weekend visit of Appenzell. The hotel is located on the main square of the city. We had a good room with a cot provided for free. Comfy beds, bath, wardrobe, a couple of arm chairs and a table, free WiFi. Breakfast was fresh, tasty and with many options. We had a dinner at the hotel and were satisfied with ordered dishes. If you are with small children, you could find some books, colouring books, some toys and entertaining items. Besides restaurant, the hotel has its own bakery / cafeteria, which is open all day long.
To my taste, food in the restaurant was a bit salty.

When I arrived at your Inn, the person at the front desk, whose name was Janica I believe, was exuding remarkable professionalism and kindness, with a wonderful smile as well.
I was immediately welcomed with a kindness that I will remember for a long time. In addition, she speaks French very well.
Your principle of half board is super awesome and in your restaurant I immediately felt comfortable with your staff.
You also have a great, friendly and competent person with your department head, I believe her name is Sara, smiling, caring and also very professional.
The rest of the staff is very friendly and helpful.
You have a very nice establishment where it is good to come with competent and very well managed staff.
The breakfast buffet is beautiful and the cuisine is very good.
So I can only recommend this Pension.
You take pride in Swiss hospitality and some can take a leaf out of you.
Thank you very much for your warm welcome.

This is a wonderful hotel, situated in the central square of Appenzell. Our room was excellent, we were given a corner room which gave us great views over the square and to the surrounding hills which we could see from the bed. The breakfast was also excellent, with a good choice of top quality meats and cheeses, and freshly cooked ham and eggs offered. For less than £100 per night, this was superb value. The restaurant is also very good, perhaps the best we have been to in Switzerland. The cakes sold in the adjoining bakery are also well worth trying! In summary, an excellent hotel with very competitive prices.

My kids and I went to the Appenzeller region of Switzerland twice this summer on two separate hiking holidays. The first time we just stumbled upon both the region and the hotel. What luck! Second trip we were sure to return and to book again at this hotel.

First off - go to the Appenzell region. This is a different and beautiful part of Switzerland - different from the Bernese Oberland, and has an active, interesting living culture. Be sure and stay for at least 3 nights so that you an avail yourself of the many benefits of the 'Appenzell card' you receive if you stay for 3 nights - free local train and bus transportation, some key cable car rides in the area, museum passes etc - there is lots to see and do here.
Go to Ebenalp, take a ride on the bobsled at Jakobsbad, go to the cheese factory and ride the rails and walk the trails. Easy easy to get around for those of us who travel without a car. There is an abundance of varied hiking and walking trails - mountains, farms, forests and ranges from easy stuff to alpine workouts , I love being in a place that shows my kids a different way of life .. ( .and that includes staying in places where the visitng tourists are not all from our own country and speaking English) This is a great region to explore for families.

And staying at Hotel Appenzell was the icing on the cake for us. I think there was a review that complained of street noise but we loved our room that overlooked the square - on our last trip we saw herds of decorated cows and their dressed up drivers coming through town down from the summer pastures - thats a sight, we were treated to impromptu performances by little musical groups moving around the square and just liked being able to look out and see what was going on in the square. Night noise was not an issue for us at all ( and we stayed a total of 7 nights in two different visits) . The location is convenient, rooms are big and clean and not cookie cutter - each is different. Wonderful, genuine staff.

The restaurant served really good food with attentive service -with an outside option if weather permitted. Not cheap but it is Switzerland and I thought it was very good value. NIce choices on the kids menu. Lots of locals appear to eat here. The menu had great selections and some nice local wines. The included breakfast was good and plentiful.

Great stay.

We had no sleep at all during our stay to Hotel Appenzell. It is located on a town square and on Saturday night all the local kids party in the square. They were riding motercycles around in circles, singing, shouting, and basically having a party in the square. We will never go back. We stayed in Hotel Olten the night before in Appenzell and loved it.
