Detailed Reviews
The resort is located at the end of a gravel track in a quiet location on the beach.
Our Bure/villa had been recently renovated and painted, all the other units are in the process of upgrading and should be completed soon, rooms were serviced daily and kept clean.
Breakfast is traditional continental but you can order a cooked breakfast if required.
All meals were excellent with a variety and very well presented.
All the staff were very friendly and polite and could not do enough to please, these were the people that made this holiday great.
The hotel offers free kayaks and snorkelling equipment and has a volleyball area. We were also provided with extra beach towels for use at the beach and the pool and we had a complimentary 10 minute message during our stay.
If you are looking for a quiet relaxing break then put Crusoes as a consideration

There’s aFijian experience to suit everyone. I have traveled to the Fiji Islands 20 times and have visited around 30 islands. I love it.
Finally this year Imy husband and I drove into Crusoes Retreat to spend the day snorkeling and to have lunch.
WOW!
This small, immaculate resort is set in the most spectacular location we’ve ever seen on the mainland of Viti Levu. The access road is an adventure but we’ll maintained and you need to drive slowly to take in the vistas. The resort does provide its own transportation to and from the airport and to attractions in the area.
All of the burrs have sea views across the expanse coral lagoon. We did not stay there as we own timeshare accommodation nearby. But there’s a range of bures from which to choose.
The bar and restaurant are set on the hill to enable guests to marvel at the view, but there’s also shaded seating decks at the waters edge.
We think it would be the perfect place to go with your extended family, a group of friends, or if you’re after absolute relaxation.
Activities are on offer throughout the day and of course, the sincere friendliness that draws us back time and time again is a given.

I’ve enjoyed beautiful views from the resort and long walks on the beach which I often had all to myself. I left feeling relaxed and lucky to have experienced that beauty.
There are daily free activities and one day I spent the whole morning kayaking and exploring other beaches with one of Crusoe’s staff (in other places there would have been a charge for this kind of guided activity). He also invited me to visit his village (adjacent to the resort) which was an interesting experience – including drinking kava with members of the community.
As a vegan, my food options were pretty limited and considering Crusoe Retreat’s remote location getting to the shops wasn’t very practical. I was only there Thursday-Sunday so it was not a big deal. For those planning to stay longer this is something to keep in mind.
I also had a lovely massage.
My room – or Bure, I should say – was very spacious and the bed very comfortable. The only downside were ants, quite a few of them.
Wi-fi is only available at reception/in the restaurant area, as clearly stated on the website. However there was not connection anywhere for the first 24 hours I was there. I was told this was not uncommon. This is not necessarily a bad thing if you are trying to relax and disconnect but obviously it has its drawbacks.

Would like to start by saying most of the staff we came across here were lovely and very helpful. The exception I think would be the receptionist one evening (they changed day by day) who seemed bored and totally uninterested but not a huge deal.
The price per night is very reasonable but that's about where that stops; all the food and drinks are terribly expensive, and they have set menus each night so you have little choice in what you have. For the 3 nights we were there, 2 dinners were non-optional buffet style which cost $40-$50 p/p. Much of which I didn't eat, but you're too far away to go anywhere else, for breakfast lunch and dinner, and I think they know that.
You won't get any complimentary bottled water, air con or TV with this place. Which was OK, we didn't need it too much, but it forces you to do nothing but eat and drink and rack up an even larger bill at the end of your stay. We ate and drank in moderation and it still cost us around $700 FJD after just two full days and an evening. What infuriated me more was their lack of basic invoicing; with a system that only required you to quote a room number to charge meals and activities, the final bill was totalled under line items titled 'Crusoe's charge' for every cost so there was no way to cross-check what you're being charged for. They just don't even keep track of it.
Wifi which you need to renew each day with a new coupon works almost only in the dining areas, and it is slow AF, so when it came to planning our days or updating people at home, this was our biggest gripe. Forget your own internet if you're roaming, you're so far out an surrounded by mountain you won't get reliable service.
My last criticism is how outdated some aspects were, from the old sliding door we almost broke each time we had to wrench it open to leave our room, to the cheap snorkel gear that I personally saw 3 sets break withing a single day.
The good bits: staff are all locals and mostly wonderful. View is spectacular and snorkelling pretty good. Activities are very inclusive and authentic. Cocktails were delicious, but again, bit costly.
For the hassle of getting out there, the costs associated and the inconvenience of minimal wifi, I probably wouldn't go back.

A very tired resort in need of a serious upgrade which is a real shame as the location is beautiful. Once there you are stuck unless you have your own transport and it is very expensive to eat and drink there so we suggest you definitely byo food and drink. The food is very ordinary with ridiculous prices we could not tell the difference between chicken and fish 😂 The staff are lovely with the exception of the lady at front desk who does not make you feel welcome at all. Our rooms were very outdated but cleaned daily. Defo get the seaside villas, the seaview rooms are nasty. The pool was merky and needed a good daily clean which never happened. Overall expect 2 stars but be perpared to pay 5 stars for everything but accommodation and you will not be disappointed. It is a beautiful relaxing spot with friendly staff but just needs a bit of love.

bula and thank you for the frank review of Crusoe's Retreat. With regards to our pricing for food, we have done extensive research and feel our prices are in line with most other resorts in Fiji and certainly not overpriced but we appreciate your opinion and will make every effort to improve our offering. Will also be making sure the pool is not murky. We are happy to see that you have some great positives there especially the staff who are always fantastic. vinaka

We stayed here for more than a week and found the resort very lacking. We did not expect more than 3 star service and amenities but basic neccesities like proper coffee would have been nice. Very basic breakfast was included and not a lot on offer. It got less everyday. Room cleaning was adequate. The Location is beautiful but a bit isolated and costly to go anywhere and the beach isn't very good for swimming. The food was very ordinary and expensive but theres no where else you can go unless you have a car. Most of the staff were very friendly..but one male in the bar area was particularly gruff and unfriendly also the tour man Gary..rude pushy and unfriendly. Some of the kitchen staff were coughing a lot without covering their mouths and they allowed people to smoke at the tables in the restaurant while others were eating.. disgusting!! Be careful about the room charges as we had to pay for things we didn't order. We would not go back..could be so much better if someone cared!!

My friends and I stayed here for 2 nights in February 2020. We we were very disappointed. The location was lovely, on the coast, however very out of the way of any shops or tourist locations. This resulted in being stuck at the resort where food and drink prices were sky high... 38 dollars for a main course meal (cheapest option). Food quality wasn’t particularly good either.
My two friends and I were part of an overall of about 15 guests. The resort had space for lots of people so it was strange as to why is was so empty. So there was practically nothing going on ever.
The front of house staff were’t very friendly or helpful. When I asked about problems with the wifi I got no help and no apology. The gardeners, however, were very friendly and polite.
There weren’t many activities available. Staff did not look at all interested in encouraging and giving information about these.
Our room was pleasant and clean, however the wifi doesn’t reach to rooms (but its not the end of the world).
Overall we wouldn’t recommend this resort.

This was my scound stay at this resort, first stay was love the local and service was 5 🌟, my resent stay will always keep me away from this resort. Room stayed was B15 outdated and damaged furniture not worth paid $200fjd per night. Dinner i have ordered 6pm to be served at 8pm but sill serviced 45min late at 8.45pm and when complain for our meal is late staffs were not sorry for late servise and food was over price and taste what not expected, fish n chips burned and can smell old oil. Rice was Cold and rice was used cheaps quality. Teriyaki chicken order with fries but served with rice. For this 3 dish i paid $114 fid absolutely not worth it.
My experience, it looks like hotel has lost the love the local sprit and now staffs and management like to serve overseas guests only.
Very bed experience.

Crusoe’s used to be adults only… now it’s not. I won’t be back due to this unfortunately. Breakfast is ok however lunch and dinner is very limited and average at best. Some nights buffet is offered unfortunately if a group is in house don’t get the buffet as there will be nothing left! Do not do the meal plan as it works out much more expensive than off menu. Staff are not so friendly with the exception of Henry who was lovely. It’s a real shame as we stayed here in 2019 and throughly enjoyed everything. Suggestions:- staff to smile, upgrade food choices, turn it back to adults only - it’s really not geared up for kids anyway. Add some pictures to the walls in deluxe seaside bures.

Fantastic location and views are amazing. Staff were also very welcoming and great service however Food had a lot to be desired and was extremely expensive. A lamb curry that was bones and fat and SAN Choi boy that tasted like lasagna mince. Lucky we had a car so we went and ate big lunches elsewhere and brought snacks for dinner. However they did have a lovu one night which was great but very expensive. Drinks are also on the top end for pricing. Given you are off the beaten track a hire car is good to have and take in your own water and snacks as very pricey

We did have air con. Only put it on for an hour or two before bedtime then turned it off overnight…….only because we’re Canucks and not used to hot weather.
Take a pass on the air con…..more $$$$$ for beer 😀
Temperate and weather are very subjective, depending on what you're used to at home. We find Fiji during June, July and August comfortable weather-wise. However, the rest of the months we have the air conditioner on all the time. Most of the accommodation at Crusoe's is not air conditioned. There are a few Bures that have air conditioners in one room. The drinking water is safe because they have their own water treatment plant. The manager told us when he gave us a tour of the resort.
Bula!
No need to bring your own snorkel gear. The resort offers mask, fins and snorkel - at no charge. In addition, you can take out one of the resort's sea kayaks and explore the lagoon.
Bula Vinaka Kim and thanks for your message about Crusoe's Retreat. First off - a great big Happy Birthday. Crusoes would be a wonderful spot to celebrate your birthday.
Crusoe's Retreat has a full tour desk, from which you can select a lot of fun and exciting activities and excursions nearby. In addition, we have a scuba dive centre on site, and they can assist in any fishing requests. If you are looking for more deep sea fishing opportunities, our tour desk can direct you to what is best suited for you. Just let them know.
Like you, many of our guests like to relax with a drink or cocktail. We have a fun Happy Hour every day from 5:00p-7:00 at Coco's Pool Bar - one of the best spots in all of Fiji to watch amazing sunsets over the water. We do have wine at Crusoes, and our selection does change based on our wine importer. If you would like to bring some wine from duty free, there is a small corkage fee. All of our Bures have mini-refrigerators, so you can be sure to keep your wine cool!
Hope this helps, and we hope to see you soon to help celebrate your birthday in style . . . in paradise!
Yes, fishing trips can be arranged with the Dive Center from the hotel.
