Our family was a little worried about this stop while hiking the GR-R2, due to some mediocre reviews, but our concerns were unfounded. The Hotel L'Ecrin has comfortable and clean rooms, a small bar, nice grounds with various activities, helpful staff, a very good breakfast buffet, and an excellent restaurant next door for dinner. We would definitely stay again.
Quite some extremes here, post-Covid sadly more towards the negative side. Location great, though only 2 of the about 30 rooms (in 8 bungalows) have sea view; itself marvellous for 1500 m altitude. Rooms have decent bathroom and a heater there and in the bedroom; however they cannot really fight the ice-cold tiled floor. The rooms are oompah-loompah size (15 square meters), hardly storage space and a tiny desk with far too low basic chair. Only suitable for sleeping. Staff service is great, with cheap and fast laundry done. Breakfast not bad, resupply is slow. Wifi in main building works a bit, in the rooms nonexistent. For the price they charge the minus factors are unacceptable.
It's not a hotel in traditional view, but is more like separate houses. Each with own facilities and little garden. Nicely located in center of Bourg Mourat and has its own parking. Restaurant has different owner than hotel, so you have to pay separately. Sauna, spa and minigolf is free of charge, but you have to book a time slot. There was no wifi available (in the house).
Clean, simple Bungalows. Good beds, small bathroom. We especially liked the floor heating, which kept the room warm and cosy - a great plus in this altitude, where it can get quite chilly at night. Breakfast buffet in the breakfast room with quite a choice on offer. The separate restaurant can also be recommended, we ate very well there. Service overall very friendly and helpful, good tips for the vulcano visit-
We stayed there for the night before attempting to climb the volcano. Since, we were leaving early for the trip the following morning, they offered us breakfast box. At 4 a.m in the morning the breakfast box helped a lot. We stayed only one night and had a nice experience.
Rooms basic but clean, great position for visiting the volcan and you can walk to la maison des volcans. Breakfast ok. Stuff really helpfull with things to do and the restaurants. WiFi in reception area only, which would be ok, but the reception closes at 9PM.
Stayed here to be near the volcano and location was good for that. Breakfast was ok too. However the bungalows were very basic - and the room/ bathroom smelled very strongly of bleach/ disinfectant. Didn't feel comfortable here and when a piercing alarm went off for about 30 mins, did not feel very secure either. Staff were friendly and did speak some English but be aware the accommodation is very basic. Not up to 2* we have experienced in France.
Pool table at reception gives you the idea that you can play pool all night, but guess what....everything closes at 9pm so you cant play...hahahahaha..and that includes the bar. Next to the hotel is a restaurant that opens at 6:30pm and closes at 9pm, and the food is crap! you have to reserve a place at hotel reception before 6:30 pm to get a place at the restaurant. There is a strong smell of poo that disappears around 8pm in your room. This place is a 2 star, but I wouldn't even give it 1 star. Worst food ever, worst customer service ever, but the rooms are very clean except for the smell of poo.
The hotel is located very quiet, still on the main street of Bourg Murat. Staff was friendly. A small car Parking is available. The rooms are quite small and are in fact small bungalows with basic but functional furniture. Relatively small bathroom. At night the hotel and bungalow area are quite dark with only some limited lighting. Unfortunately there was no WiFi in the rooms, only at the reception, which closed at 21:00… Breakfast was quite simple. The hotel has no restaurant so that we we had dinner in a small restaurant close by. As our main purpose was sightseeing, the hotel was OK for the stay.
The bungalows are spacious enough and they all come with a heater, which we needed as the temperature dropped a lot during the evenings. Our bathroom smelled of moist, which I guess is due to the fact that it has not a very good ventilation and it becomes foggy in the evenings. Biggest downside is that the rooms are pretty badly isolated, and we literally overheard our next door neighbors having a good time. Good for them, but not really what we had hoped for. The shower was small but fine. The breakfast was good, with fresh fruit and bread. Friendly staff. Wifi only worked in the lobby/reception. We did not make us of the sauna or hot tub. All-in-all, the location is fine for a visit to the volcano, but we feel the price of 80 euros a night is a bit high compared to what we got for that amount elsewhere on the island.…
