From the moment that you step through the door of this beautiful and peaceful home, the Hakeem Homestay makes you feel very welcomed. I love the experience that I have while staying here of seeing a part of Kashmiri life that I would never have seen had I stayed in a hotel - from being nourished by the lovely home-cooked food (and Kashmiri tea!) to chatting with the Afaq and sharing cultural experiences. I’ve visited the Homestay in both summer and winter, and it’s been great to see the house and surrounding area in different seasons. The garden is a serene place to spend a summer’s afternoon reading, and in the wintertime, the views of the mountains are breathtaking. Both times I’ve been so well looked after, and I want to thank you all from the bottom of my heart for opening your home to travelers like me, and I wish you every success.…
I had an absolutely incredible time at Hakeem's homestay in Dehwathu. I wanted to have a local experience in a small town in Kashmir and this was just amazing. It was truly Kashmiri hospitality at its best. The house itself is just gorgeous and very tastefully decorated in the Kashmiri style. I had meals at the house and the food was so delicious. They have organic food from the garden--so yummy! Everyone was so kind to me, I really felt at home. As a solo female traveler, I felt really well taken care of and I'm so grateful. Hakeem arranged airport transportation for me which was really helpful as well. If you are thinking about heading out here, do it! You will be so happy you did. The natural beauty in Kashmir is incredible and the people are absolutely lovely. Thank you, Hakeem!…
It is hard to find the words to describe this beautiful and tranquil home, amid the gorgeous Lidder Valley. I was welcomed with warmth by the family, looked after incredibly well, with authentic Kashmiri food for breakfast, lunch and dinner, and got to experience a slice of genuine Kashmiri culture that is a treasure. The rooms are beautiful, the water hot, and the views and garden just wonderful. There are some good walks around (the house is on the edge of a wildlife sanctuary) and the family can arrange sightseeing, treks etc. I feel incredibly grateful to have been a guest here, when many people told me "Don't go to Kashmir, it's not safe". As a solo female traveller, I'm glad that the above advice did not put me off. I have felt as safe here as I would back in my home town in the UK and had the chance to see somewhere I never thought I would. Thank you so much to the Hakeem family! …
Well, I don't know how to begin, first, the family is the best hosts I've ever met. From the first moment you feel like at your own home and much more than that. The family will take care for everything you might need. Great activities and beautiful place to see around. They will welcome you with authentic Kashmir food for breakfast, lunch and dinner, amazing Kashmiri special tea to you won't forget. Very recommended homestay, better than everything out there.
This marvellous home of a small family (mother, son and daughter) has been one of my best discoveries abroad up to now! It is very welcoming, clean, pristine and calm. The surroundings in some way remind one of the swiss alps, combined with a middle eastern, indian touch. There simply aren't many things, that will start off the day better than, waking up to the lush greens of apple trees and the snow topped peaks of the himalayan range. The rooms are spacious and very tidy (also arranged kashmiri style) and they each have bathroom (toilet, shower) with hot water. I would like to say a few things about the family aswell. I received a very warm welcoming from all members of the family and the first thing i was offered when i arrived was chai or coffey with biscuits. I had a sit and a few long conversations with the son (he loves cricket), who speaks very good english and was glad to help with anything i needed. I also got to know a bit about kashmiri kultere, such as foods, garments and traditions, at mealtimes with the family. I spent a wonderfull time at this place in one of the most idyllic areas ive been to so far. I would recommend this place to anyone who is looking to spend a few relaxed days in peace and quiet (still a lot of activities to do around the area if you want to). I want to say thank you to the family for taking care of me and also the owner of the homestay hakeem! God bless you…
I stayed at Hakeem Homestay in May 2012. I found the family to be very friendly and considerate of me as a guest. After budget backpacking around India for several weeks before arriving it was a great relief to have a clean, friendly family home to stay in. I was made to feel very welcome and provided with everything I needed by the Hakeem family. The food was excellent and it was certainly a change to have some proper home cooked meals after living off street vendors and restaurants for an extended period. Unfortunately I will not make it back to Kashmir this year but I certainly hope to return and pay a visit to this lovely family in the next few years.
