The Broken Compass hostel & bar offers dorm accomodation, with and without ensuite bathrooms and private doubles. All have fan & air-con, "fresh" (ie non-bore) water and included breakfast and wifi.
Places to stay are graded on a 0-100 scale. The higher the grade, the easier it is for travellers to find restaurants and things to do within walking distance.
This is by far the best hostel we have stayed in during our travels around SEA. The facilities were so clean and comfortable with fresh towels or bed sheets available any day. There were also plenty of toilet paper in every toilet which is super important for ladies! They offer a breakfast every more included in the price which is always the perfect amount of food you need. Simple but great! They do food all day which is exceptionally priced compared to other places and the drinks prices are very good too offering happy hours everyday. The location really is amazing, it’s just behind the beach front road so you aren’t next door to a club but everything from the beach to clubs/restaurants are all within a 5 minute walking distance. The harbour is also only 5 mins away so you don’t need to worry about taxis. The staff here are beyond amazing and helpful, they can organise transport from the island and trips around the islands as well as Scuba diving fun dives or courses with there sister hostel Compass divers (also HIGHLY recommend going here!) The best part of the hostel was the staff-they are so friendly and kind and always happy to help and genuinely want you to have the best time! We ended up spending most of our nights (if not all) with the bar guys Andi and Joe just chatting and enjoying ourseleves. They were the best at making cocktails (especially Mojitos). Everyone really made us feel at home and we were very sad to leave! Thank you Broken Compass, we will be back very soon!!!

The best hostel we have stayed in in SE Asia! One of the cleanest places we’ve stayed. Both in the rooms and communal areas, so a big credit to the cleaning team. They assisted us with booking our transport off the island, snorkelling excursions, and diving courses at the sister hostel and dive shop 5 mins down the road. Great location on the better side of the island where all the restaurants and bars are. Everything is pretty much a 5 minute walk away including the pier where you arrive and depart the island. And the best snorkelling beach you’ve ever been to. Turtles galore! You’re guaranteed to see them! What really made our stay though we’re the staff! We extended 3 times and ended up staying for 10 days instead of 3. There is a unique family atmosphere between them and they made us feel so welcome and part of the family! Very helpful and great company in the evenings. Top tier cocktails! And tasty grub rustled up by great cooks! We were very sad to leave and we hope to be back soon.

Such a clean and pretty hostel with amazing staff who were so friendly and helpful. Rooms were in great condition and had great facilities. Great location as it was so close to the beachfront and all the shops and stalls. We were able to book trips and experiences through them and couldn’t recommend the snorkelling trip enough! Great breakfast options and good music. All in all 10/10 great ambience and was a nice social but chill break from the liveliness of Gili T. Thank you!

I’ve stayed in over 100 hostels all around the world and Broken Compass has to be one of the top ten. Only 3 people to a dorm with comfy beds and great air conditioning. The atmosphere is friendly and social and all the staff are fantastic. Didn’t really want to leave because I was meeting cool people every day. Food and drink prices are very reasonable and there’s a good general store right across the street. I’d go back for sure!

All time experience with the crew in completing our Open Water Certification for diving! Rozzie, Samsul, OG, ipink and Luis were incredibly professional on their guiding and expertise. Stayed in Broken Compass the 2nd time and will definitely go again. Everybody is super nice and friendly. We had a lot of fun with you guys.
Probably one of the best places to go to eat on the whole island. Pad Thai was absolutely delicious!

One of the best hostel and the staff are super nice especially Ali and Zoel. They are friendly and funny. You can swim in the pool and you can have fun with the staff. They are welcoming and they can help you to set your plan with good prices. So, I highly recommend it.

I had the best time in Broken Compass. The bed is comfy, the showers are clean and have hot water, they have a super cool pool with an under water tunnel and enough places to chill.
I especially loved the vibe of the hostel, thanks to the staff!! They are super lovely and kind, doing there absolute best to make sure you have a good time.

Me and my girlfriend felt somewhat catfished by Broken Compass, the advertising pictures of the pool and mural enticed you in but upon arrival we originally thought we had the wrong place it looked so different. Amazing what filters can do 😄
However, forgetting the facilities and focusing more on people, as a backpacker this place is a no brainier - we were only here for two nights but met some of the best people we came across on our travels and the hostel puts on a lot of socials events to make sure everyone gets involved!
The beds were not comfy, you were given a rather small blanket (tea-towel) to sleep with and there was a bit of an epidemic at this place with mosquitos, so be sure to take lots of bug spray!
The showers were good and they offered a free breakfast, was still a good experience but may opt for somewhere else next time 🤷🏽♂️

This hostel have a private rooms for couple. Clean rooms and toilets. With complimentary delicious breakfast. Nice swimming pool too. Friendly staff and the owner too. Swimming pool and the music closed at 11 pm onwards. No TV provided. have table tennis. Towels and blankets is provided but need to pay for deposit. Overall... stay here is the best in Gili Trawangan for backpackers like us. Bicycle price is IDR 50,000. Snorkeling IDR 150,000 per pax. Hostel can do the arrangement for you.
