It was worth the drive up the hairpin turns from Como to stay at VIsta Lago. Our room had a small, but sturdy balcony overlooking Como and the countryside. A stunning view. We had struck out with the Como hotels and B&Bs and needed a...More
We had made a last-minute booking in another place but when we arrived (having driven up the very narrow, winding road up to the top of the mountain!) we discovered that there had been a mistake on the online booking site and they had no...More
We stayed here as an alternative to the overpriced hotels in near Lake Como. The hotels location is great in terms of being right up the street from the funicular. The hotel staff is very friendly and helpful. The room does not have air conditioning...More

I see no reason why you would not be able to take the bags with you. There is nobody to check you as you go on board because you go through a turnstile (like on the metro/subway) where you validate your ticket. However do be aware that you have to climb steps up the side of the funicular to climb on, and at the other end you climb again to reach the exit. Quite steep steps if carrying suitcases but manageable. You do not say what time of year you are going so no idea how crowded the funicular will be, but I really do not think you will have a problem. Enjoy your stay!
