Town centre is about ten mins walk. So a good location if you want an apartment in a large town.
Definetely not too touristy and a fine market on Tuesday mornings.
Excellent support from the staff when we had questions about a few appliances.
Very clean and well-maintained apartment and reasonable size. We were two, dunno if you find 4 or 6 persons also okay.
The pool is an okay place to be if you can be there before 10h or during siesta when most other people aren't around so you can get a sunbed to lie on.
Before our trip I really hoped we would not get an apartment looking out onto the street.
We didn't, ours looked inside to the pool area.
BUT THERE WAS A HUGE PLASTIC POOL ROOF rolled back and parked for the summer right in front of our balcony. See attached pic.
We paid a lot of money for the apartment.
Given the above problem I believe we overpaid by approx 25%.
No compensation was given by our booking agent so far.
There was no problem with noise at all, which I have found in many other beach resort hotels- no Grease medley karaoke until 1am here! Palamos was in general a quieter town, with many bars but few clubs.
The pool area was also lovely, very clean with plenty of sunbeds, and the lifeguard/barman was always extremely helpful and friendly.
We stayed self-catered but did eat in the hotel restaurant one evening- it was around 14 Euros per person plus drinks, which was reasonable for the decent spread of salads, soup, meats, pasta, veg, and desserts on offer. (Eating times are quite late compared to England, the evening meal was served from 8-10, something to bear in mind if you have young children). There was also a bar with outside tables which was nice on an evening.
The location is perfect- a two minute walk to the beach, which is one block away. A two minute walk in the other direction takes you to a big supermarket with a patisserie and chemists. It's about five minutes into town, for all the shops and cafes.
(I'd recommend the restaurants Monica, which was always incredibly busy but delicious food, all the choice you could want, and quick service; Canpaco, which again was always busy but had great choice and efficient staff; and La Tortilla, a Tex-Mex place with fresh food and delicious pancakes!)
All in all, Palamos is a great place to stay for a relaxed beach holiday; Apartmentos Palamos was the ideal hotel, with very few shortcomings. I would definitely return here next year!
We had a bit of difficulty finding this block of apartments. Our GPS took us to the Palamos apartments and hotel- but they referred us to the travel agents next door to the bicycle shop on the same block. The travel agents are closed between 2and 4pm, so we had to wait half an hour for them to open before finally meeting Jordi. His friendliness and efficient manner in which we were assisted more than made up for the bit of inconvenient waiting.
The apartment building and the Palamos hotel and apartments share two opposite sides of the same block of land and they share a beautifully well looked after, crystal clear pool. So on the one side there is the well advertised and clearly marked hotel and apartments and on the other there is simply an entrance to a block of flats, between a chinese shop, a restaurant and a gym. This, incidentally is where you enter the building if you rented an apartment from Jordi.
But don’t worry, as he explains everything to you very clearly. We paid an additional 60 Euro for parking for our vehicle (drove round the block 3 times before we found the garage, but I will explain later).
We paid around 600 Euro for 7 nights for 4 people, which I thought was very reasonable. We had a two bedroom apartment on the 4th floor overlooking the pool right in front of us and the skateboard park on our left. This became convenient once our 12 year old son purchased a scooter and spent hours at said skateboard park. We were able to keep an eye on him from our balcony.
The apartment was quite spacious for a holiday apartment- consisting of a living area with a pull-out couch, there was a dining table and 4 chairs, two single beds in the second bedroom and twin beds in the man bedroom. No reading lights, but the main lights had an additional switch above each bed, which was convenient. Electronic blinds kept the worst of the heat out, but there is an air conditioner as well. The kitchen is very tiny, but sufficient. Two pans, a pot, more than enouch crockery and cutlery for 4 people and several sharp knives (although we had to sharpen them all- but there was a knife sharpener as well). There is also a microwave and a two plate stove top. There was a washing machine, but it did not work at all. They provide a clothes rail and since there are two balconies there is ample place to hang your washing outside on the balcony. The shower has decent water pressure and there is loads of cupboard space underneath the basin. Each bedroom cupboard had several extra blankets and there was one extra set of linen and an extra towel.
They do not provide beach towels, so take your own. Also, there is a nice size Esclat supermarket within walking distance from the apartment, so stocking up on fresh produce and cleaning supplies was really easy and convenient. They provide a little dish washing liquid and two rolls of toilet paper and one garbage bag only, the rest you need to purchase yourself.
One signs a document with Jordi, giving permission for them to deduct 70 Euros if the apartment is not cleaned properly upon return of the keys (Jordi specified that it did not have to be spring cleaned, only that it must be clean and the garbage needed to be thrown out), 50 Euros if one was to lose the remote and garage key or the apartment key and then damages in accordance with repair costs for any other damage to the property. We sent him an e-mail on the first night informing him of the broken washing machine and one or two broken glasses. He acknowledged receipt of our mail the very next day. We also took a quick video of the state of the apartment when we left, simply so that we had our bases covered. We have since received a very nice e-mail from Jordi stating that he was happy with the way in which the apartment was left. It is not a large floor space, so cleaning it really did not take a lot of our time. We also simply took our garbage out the door with us each morning as there are large garbage bins on both corners of the building leading in the direction of the sea or the parking garage.
The apartments use a garage belonging to a different block of flats for parking. There are three well marked parking spaces and Jordi provided us with a parking space number for our vehicle. I don’t know if we are just not used to driving on the right hand side of the road and therefore found the narrow turn into the garage a bit difficult to navigate or if it is really a very narrow and sharp turn. Never the less, we were given parking space number 26 to park in, but I misunderstood Jordi (while his English is good, a few details went haywire in the explanation) and we therefore looked for building number 26 with a parking garage. Needless to say we went round the block several times (it is a one-way). The garage is actually in the very next block up the road from the apartments. Just after the second purple leaved tree on your right, there is an apartment block with the number “10” on it and right next to that there is a driveway leading down to a wall with a very sharp turn to your right into the garage. On the left side of the driveway is a charcoal colored steel wall.
We really enjoyed our stay in this apartment and will definitely return here. It is centrally located, within walking distance to the beach, the supermarket, the town center and even the harbor if you don’t mind taking a leisurely 15 minute stroll along the beach- really not a sacrifice at all.
We used Palamos as a centre form where to visit Patja D’Aro, Figueres, Llfranc, Begur, Perpignan in France and simply to spend a few leisurely days on the beach soaking up the sun.
Pillows were extremely thin and only one pillow per person. I did not sleep very well because of that. And blankets were incredibly thin as well, although this was not a problem because of the warm weather. Kitchen could be better equipped, not enough wine glasses, no bowls and cooking plate that was out of order. No small wall lights or table lights in bedrooms. No soap or washing gel.
And beware that if you leave your garbage bag into the kitchen, then company withdraws 70 euros for this. I think it is not normal, the sum is considerably high, and we also payed for cleaning before. Cleaning fee 40 euros does not cover taking the garbage out it seems. We had to leave very early at night (3 a.m.) to catch the plane...
