This place is at the midway between Luang pranbang and what's called the golden triangle by slowboat. So after some 12 hour travel upstream from Luang Prabang, you reach this hotel totally spent. We were picked up at the jetty by a staff member. I wondered how he knew what time we arrived. It turned out that slowboats aren't so...

Dear Mrs, Mr Lovemanger, We are extremely sorry you did not enjoy your stay at the Pakbeng Lodge. Our objectives are comfort and well being of all our guest since we are situated in an amazing location. In no way, our interest is to take advantage of the "lack of competition". In Pakbeng, besides the Pakbeng Lodge, 02 other Lodge,...

We stayed overnight for stopover on slow boat from Houixay to Luang Prabang. There is the main lodge and a newer lodge higher up. We stayed in the newer one - a lovely characterful room with balcony overlooking the river. Elephant ride included which was good fun.

Just a one-night stay here while on the Shompoo Cruise. The lodge looks beautiful and the staff were welcoming, attentive and happy and the food was among the best we had in Laos. Downside is that the overhead fans in the rooms are very, very noisy. If they were replaced then Pakbeng Lodge would be an absolute must-stay when in...

I chose Pakbeng Lodge for my overnight stopover on the slow boat from Huayxai to Luang Prabang. Although fairly expensive compared to nearby alternatives, the quality of the accommodation made it worth it. The rooms are a bit dark but elegantly furnished, with ceiling fans (much better than A/Cs for protecting against mosquitoes) and balconies. Mine offered a lovely view...

We stayed here for 1 night during the slow boat trip from Xuay Xi to Luang Prabang. We were collected at the pier in a tuk tuk and brought to the hotel. We were welcomed with a drink and greeted by the French owner who was lovely informing us that dinner was also included in the price which wasn't advertised...

Incredible resort among the luxurious plants along the Mekong river. Delightful views on the river. Everything was perfect, from the comfortable and clean room to the restaurant serving delicious dinner and breakfast. Staff was very nice too. We just stop for one night, but I wished to have stopped another one to enjoy the peace of this place.

We did an overnight here while doing the two day journey down the Mekong from Chiang Khong to Luang Prabang. It was a wonderful two day trip highlighted by the amazing hotel in the middle. The hotel is high up on the bank above the river but it was no effort for the porters to take up (and in the...

It is a bit further away from everything else - which is a good thing. Remember most people are coming here from the slow boat on Mekong. So being away from the backpackers might be a good thing. The only dig is that there are only a few rooms with A/C so depending on the time of year you are...

We spent one night stopover on the boat trip from Chiang Khong ( North of Thailand) to Luang Prabang ( Laos) in last April. After full day on the boat trip along the mekong river , Pakbeng Lodge gave us the wonderful night in the peaceful mekong! The service of the hotel was lovely! The hotel manager are very helpful...

We arrived at the Pakbeng Lodge boat dock just before sunset on route to Luang Prabang on the Shompoo Cruise from the Houy Xai/Chiang Khong- Laos/Thailand border crossing. After a short hike up from the riverside with hotel porters carrying our baggage we reached Pakbeng Lodge perched high above the riverbank overlooking the Mekong below. I have to say that...

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
Sitting by the bank of the Mekong, Pakbeng Lodge is halfway between the World Heritage Town of Luang Prabang, and Huay Xai, the main border crossing between northern Thailand and northern Laos, both towns reachable within a day by cruise.Attached to each of the Lodge's 20 Superior Rooms, 8 Deluxe Rooms, and 2 Suites, is a large terrace overlooking the river. The Lodge is an ideal point of departure for walks in the forest of an hour or a day, towards villages off the tourist roads. (Please see our section on Excursions.) It faces the Mekong Elephant Camp, which is dedicated to the protection of elephants in Laos. There, a wonderful opportunity exists to discover the life of an animal that contributes a strong element to the traditional culture, by participating in a walk or with their morning bath. The Pakbeng Lodge suggests you stay a few days in this protected area far from the beaten tracks. You will appreciate the comfortable atmosphere, the picturesque sunrise and sunset over the Mekong, and the comings and goings of the different boats that dock near the Lodge's beach.
