I am giving it a 5 because for a hotel in a remote location, the accomodation and service are very good. We were privileged to stay in the upper part of the property with an incredible view of the Mekong at sunset. The rooms are comfortable, clean. The food is very good (separate dining area in the upper and lower...

We arrived by boat along the Mekong. The manager greeted us and said we were welcome to a complimentary elephant ride the next morning. We were given a welcome drink and allocated room 207, on the first floor. All the rooms look over the beautiful river and there is a very nice balcony with comfortable loungers. The bed is comfortable...

After a 2 days of traveling we stayed for one night at the pak beng logde... And.... It was great!! The room was absolutely beautiful and was a mixture of Lao and french styles. It started with a free pick up, we were then welcomed with a local beverage to consume while watching the sunset over the Mekong river. People...

Me, my wife and my two kids spent two nights at Pakbeng Lodge in our recent trip to Laos. We did not have high expectations for this French style lodge but the stay was surprisingly good. Comfortable room, great food choices and very friendly staffs. But what impressed me the most was the view from our balcony. It was terrific,...

We took a 2 day boat ride from Luang Prabang to Chiang Rai and stayed at the Pakbeng Lodge during the trip. The hotel is wonderful with an excellent restaurant and fabulous view of the Mekong River. The rooms were very nice and comfortable. We highly recommend.

The unexpected is often a joy, and so this proved. Landing at a muddy and rustic platform after two languid days travelling upriver on the Mekong, we were whisked by minibus up to the very top of the hill where we could sprawl outside our room and watch the sun vaporise over bruised hills and gashes of silver before walking...

This simple lovely hotel right on the Mekong River has excellent service and superb management. My elephant experience was wonderful. I chose not to ride on the chair as I believe it is damaging to the elephant, just walking with her and meeting the mahouts was quite an experience. Seeing her in the forest eating and loving it was a...

Dear Lynda, Thank you so very much for choosing the Pakbeng Lodge and the mekong Elephant Camp for your thirst of knowledge on the Asian elephants. Our youngest animal, Mea Ping, was thrilled to spend a few days in your company, for walks and bathing in the Mekong. Aslo on behalf of myself and all the team at the Pakbeng...

We spent one night here while on the Mekong cruise to Luang Prabang. The hotel grounds are beautiful as are the rooms and the views over the river. Dinner and breakfast were included and we enjoyed those as well as a relaxing in room massage. The hotel is expensive certainly by laos standards but we enjoyed the bit of luxury...

Like most of the guests, we stayed here mid way through our cruise down the Mekong. We were in the top building and we could open the front wall of the room to give a clear view of the river below. The room itself was done out in dark wood and was spacious and comfortable. Food at breakfast was well...

This place is at the midway between Luang pranbang and what's called the golden triangle by slowboat. So after some 12 hour travel upstream from Luang Prabang, you reach this hotel totally spent. We were picked up at the jetty by a staff member. I wondered how he knew what time we arrived. It turned out that slowboats aren't so...

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
Sitting by the bank of the Mekong, Pakbeng Lodge is halfway between the World Heritage Town of Luang Prabang, and Huay Xai, the main border crossing between northern Thailand and northern Laos, both towns reachable within a day by cruise.Attached to each of the Lodge's 20 Superior Rooms, 8 Deluxe Rooms, and 2 Suites, is a large terrace overlooking the river. The Lodge is an ideal point of departure for walks in the forest of an hour or a day, towards villages off the tourist roads. (Please see our section on Excursions.) It faces the Mekong Elephant Camp, which is dedicated to the protection of elephants in Laos. There, a wonderful opportunity exists to discover the life of an animal that contributes a strong element to the traditional culture, by participating in a walk or with their morning bath. The Pakbeng Lodge suggests you stay a few days in this protected area far from the beaten tracks. You will appreciate the comfortable atmosphere, the picturesque sunrise and sunset over the Mekong, and the comings and goings of the different boats that dock near the Lodge's beach. Your visit will consist of utmost relaxation but also of unusual encounters- an immersion into traditional Lao life. ... more   less
