In May 2023, we celebrated our wedding at Château de la Motte in Liessies, and it will forever remain the most-beautiful-day-of-our-lives!
We had the chance to enjoy the terrace, embellished for the occasion with beautiful green plants, during our reception. Our secular ceremony, held under a marquee provided by the owner, took place in the charming little flower garden which surrounds the estate.
A swing that we had decorated with flowers was the scene of magnificent photos, filled with romance and precious memories. We are grateful to Mr. Plateau for his recommendations of service providers, notably the florist and the DJs, who were very professional.
The table service provided by the servers was impeccable, and the combination of their professionalism and kindness was highlighted several times by our guests. The meal was generous and good, and we would particularly like to mention the cream puff cake, a real delight.
We had the privilege of obtaining permission from Mr. Plateau to organize a fireworks display, which brought a touch of wonder to our evening.

This hotel is situated in the countryside within walking distance of the little town of Liessies with its abbey park. Room was nice with good bedding. We had booked a triple room with terrace and we had been given a double room without terrace. No problem to get the bill changed accordingly. The person at reception said that in fact none of the rooms have a terrace and this should be changed in the Booking description.
Breakfast was OK but the croissants and other pastries were not up te French standards. We had expected better quality.
Dinner was OK with friendly staff.
All in all not bad and pleasant stay close to the Val Joly lake where one can make nice nature walks.

we have just returned from a short stay at Chateau de la Motte and cannot recommend it highly enough. It is a little of the tourist trail in a beautiful area called Avesnois near forests and lakes and very peaceful. The aim for us was to visit battlefields of the first and second world wars and Waterloo as we enjoy history. Although it was a drive it was lovely to come back to the peace and seclusion. The food was amazing we were going to upgrade to a better menu as sometimes on half board the food is disappointing but there was a choice of three things every night for three courses and not one was duplicated during our four night stay. The food was HOT! Unusual for France but for us English a delightful surprise! The owners were delightful and every night came round to see that we had enjoyed the meal. The first night was quite chilly even in May and there was a roaring log fire in reception to enjoy our aperitifs by. The rooms were lovely and ours had just been decorated and we had an extra room with a sofa bed in it. They were warm and the bed very comfortable. Breakfast was the usual Continental breakfast but a juicer was put out so we could have fresh orange. The ham was home cooked and not out of a packet! Viennoisrie was very fresh and breakfast coffee very smooth. It was extremely good value and of course we benefited from the weak euro at the moment which is always a bonus! A walk before or after dinner took us to the lakes and into the forest on our doorstep. All in all a wonderful few days. We hope to return at a later dater. Monsieur has promised to enquire about the fishing rights!

We didn't stay at the hotel but visited for dinner. After taking a look at the menu I selected the Plat and chose salmon for 22€. The dinner was nice. At the end of the meal (about) hour and a half later I decided to order a creme brulee. When I went to pay my check I was billed 43€. I paid but then wondered if I had just paid 21€ additional for the creme brulee. I was shown the menu (pictured below) and told "Because it says so right here on the menu." No other explanation was offered. A passerby helped me to negotiate the cost of the creme brulee down to 10€. I'm not generally a complainer but I felt like I was being taken advantage of. The restaurant left a bad taste in my mouth...

We arrived to find a couple smoking in the reception area while enjoying afternoon drinks. They appeared to be local and at least known to if not friends of the chef patron.
Our room was adequate. Clean with a comfortable bed which had good quality linen. The big let down was the bathroom which was shoddy and to cap it all the re was no hot water either in the basin or the shower on the morning of our departure. When we mentioned this to the chef patron at check out, there was no apology just that he was aware of it and had now “pushed the button”.
On the plus side, we had an excellent dinner in the attractive restaurant with a well priced bottle of wine served by friendly, professional staff.
However, the breakfast buffet was quite basic and served in a scruffy room with wallpaper hanging off the wall.
We would not return to this hotel.

Stopover on my bike trip. It was fine with that. My bike could be safely stored.
For lack of alternative eaten in the vicinity in the associated restaurant. That was very good.
Room fine, shower looks something like getting old.
Breakfast disappointing, dry croissant.

Had prebooked for our last night before returning to U.K. and would certainly never have come across it by accident! It is completely off the beaten track and very peaceful. We were greeted by the jolly patron who seemed to do everything, took our bags to our room, cooked the meal and served the breakfast! We had a large room overlooking the garden with a good bathroom. Because of booking ahead we had arranged a half pension rate and so had the menu of the day, which was a lovely meal, if rather filling for us! Breakfast was simple but perfectly adequate. It was very good value and a well run establishment. We would certainly use this place as a first or last night when visiting France in future.

Stayed for two nights on half board at this impressive Chateau situated in extensive grounds. The food that the Chef prepares is excellent and the atmosphere in the vaulted restaurant is very pleasant. You can upgrade to higher priced menus, but we found the one offered was just right for us! The staff are friendly and professional. Good cold buffet breakfast, ham, cheese board, yoghourts, cereals, fruit, eggs, usual bread and croissants, etc. and
you can squeeze your own orange juice (other juices available) and make toast - last but not least good coffee!

I don't know about you but we like to end our touring holidays with a bit of a treat; so a Chateau set just north of the Ardennes, which catered for classic car tourers and dog owners promised a little slice of heaven. And it didn't disappoint. Arriving late afternoon we were shown up the magical grand wooden staircase, made from what appeared to be a single giant oak, to a lovely spacious suite. The peace and quiet, after a day on the motorway, washed over us as we took an apertif in the sun-trap courtyard. The staff were preparing dinner, fresh veg was being wheeled to the kitchens and we were able to roam the Chateau and gardens like it was our own home. Entering the main hall we realised from the immaculate table settings that we had stumbled on a gastronomique treat. Not really ones for such things we asked about dining and were told it was no problem and just to come down later. So we did. The food was wonderful but it was the chef that made it special. Courteous and truly friendly, the staff really seemed to care that you felt at home. Weary, and with another days drive ahead, we retired early, saying bonsoir to the locals, all dressed up, who were beginning to arrive like guests at a private country house party. We asked to take coffee in our room and when it arrived with home made chocolates it just topped out the whole treat experience. We slept like logs in our huge soft bed and awoke to a great buffet breakfast. The dogs loved the nearby walk around the lake - a blessing when your on the road. Chateau de la Motte is wonderful; will definitely be visiting again.

This Chateaux is relatively small but has all the history, charm and character. We stayed 3 nights and there was plenty to see around the area.
Monsieur is passionate about the Chateaux history and gives guided tours which are very informative and interesting. He knows every block - he even makes his own replacement blocks for repairs!
Madam is an excellant cook - We had drinks outside before a several course meal around the dining table. I would definitely recommend doing this as we met some very interesting people who were mainly european. It was excellant value and the price included wine.
We stayed in 3 different rooms as people request particular rooms.
All the rooms were beautifully restored and decorated. They all had lovely views across the countryside. Some were bigger than others but all were geat for couples.
This is off the beaten track and you would need a car to get there.
Would definitely recommend.
