Chanakya BNR in Ranchi The 100-year-old hotel, located near Ranchi railway station, is four-star hotel and is approved by Hotel & Restaurant Approval and Classification Committee (HRACC) of the Union ministry of tourism.Earlier known as Bengal Nagpur Railway (BNR) Hotel, the hospitality address was taken over by Chanakya chain of hotels in 2007 and eventually came to be known as Chanakya BNR Hotel, Ranchi. In 2009, a major renovation project was taken up with the objective of providing the best facilities to guests.Spread over five and half acres, the hotel has 93 deluxe, executive rooms and suites and conference and reception halls by the names Darbar, Utsav, Vatika, Upwan and an executive lounge. The multi-cuisine restaurant Samrat and Mehfil bar take care of the sip and bite section while the newly opened Oriental Kitchen offers Chinese cuisine along with the best dining facilities.There is also a heritage wing, which boasts 19 British-style rooms with huge verandahs and reclining chairs for guests. It also provides facilities like a fitness center, swimming pool, travel agents, car rental and parking space for over 125 vehicles.

Whenever I am in Ranchi I prefer staying in this hotel inspite of the fact that there is a Radisson in close proximity and I do avoid hotels near the railway station. But this hotel is an exception. I have written review during my last stay I thought of adding a bit more now
There are certain reasons for it. Let me pen it down.
1. Excellent helpful staff
2. Non smoking room
3. Nice comfortable rooms with excellent ambiance
4. Quality toiletries
5. Excellent food. Can you believe I had Mutton goulash here. This is a Hungarian dish
6. Lovely breakfast spread to start your day.
7. Health centre and swimming pool.
What can be made better ?
1 The only turn off for me is to see a Bucket in the shower area. Pls hide it below the sink or somewhere or produce on demand. I know that it’s commonly used in this part of the world but I find it quite gross

Immediately on reopening of the hotel I stayed. The Hotel had done many changes to make it as safe as possible by including several new protocols which includes due sanitization. The Hotel seemed quite safe. Hope to be back soon. Food is good but menu has been reduced. Break Fast need improvement.

When we reached BNR Ranchi, from Netarhat and Betla, through some really rough roads and pouring rain, all of us felt that we had finally arrived 'at home'. The warm, luxurious room, mild mannered waiter who ushered us to our rooms was just the beginning. And when the tomato soup for our son and some starters arrived, it set the tone for the culinary journey over the next 2 days.
The General Manager of the hotel, in fact, arranged a complimentary sumptuous birthday cake for our son. They even decorated our room with balloons - a gesture that we will remember for a long, long time.
Food: The breakfast spread has toasts, eggs, aloo paranthas, South India - which is quite standard when compared to other hotels. Do try their sizzlers - which were fulfilling and tasty. On the flip side though, the pricing of some menus are on the higher side.
Service: The room service is swift, efficient. The house keeping is thoroughly professional.
A covered car parking would have been great. The front office desk was probably overwhelmed with guests and the otherwise warmth we received from other waiters and attendants, was missing in the front office.
If we ever visit Ranchi, we would love to stay at BNR Chanakya yet again.

A property magnifique. It would be difficult to not fall in love with this property given the splendour & the sheer size. Beautifully landscaped property & aesthetically pleasing on the eye with regard to it’s vertical run. There are heritage rooms, well manicured lawns, tall trees, et al. But one would wish & some may pray for the property to be managed by some professionals. That’s the big disappointment. Had that been the case, no other hotel in Ranchi would come close to competing with this. The food quality is pretty decent but they could help themselves by adding a few more items in the breakfast menu. There is a dearth of charging points inside the rooms which is a reflection of the age of the property & management not bothering to keep abreast of the present challenges. & another piece of advice for the management if they are reading this – serving RO water as complimentary in the rooms will never fetch you brownie points with the guests.

I stayed here for one night on 26/04/2024. Property is very good. I stayed in Heritage room 115 which is awesome room. Spacious, aesthetically designed, neat and clean with all normally required amenities. Room service was good but they didn’t clear the used plates even by next day ie till checkout. Housekeeping didn’t provide hair conditioning lotion despite request. They provided shampoo. But I got disappointed with 03 reasons. First, at the time of check in I was asked by Front Desk Staff to wait as room was not ready despite the fact that room was booked about 10 days ago and Hotel had sent confirmation also. While I was waiting in lobby, I noticed a group of guests came in and they got their rooms allocated immediately without waiting. They checked in into their respective rooms but I was still waiting for room. It was afternoon 15:00 hrs. When I spoke and verbally brought this fact into kind notice of a senior staff of Front Desk, he apologised and immediately allocated me upgraded room. At the time of check out too, I got inconveniences because of non-working of their Amex Card swiping POS machine. Front Desk staff asked me to pay through UPI. Such a reputed property should have all credit card’s acceptance facilities and they should keep their all POS machines always in working condition and without any technical glitch. Again I had to speak a senior staff available there. He arranged payment through another credit card ie Master Card. The third issue I faced here is contravention of Government Of India’s rules and regulations on charging service charges from customers on food items. As per rules, payment of service charges in restaurants is voluntary and not compulsory. But they charged me service charges @5% on all food bills despite my resistance to pay. They have charged me GST @18% (9% CGST and 9% SGST) on restaurants food bills. As per rules it should be charged @5%. These issues contain legal angle and serious in nature and hence should be immediately looked into by the top management of this Hotel.

Receptionist was very cooperative and very good service.The room itself was a haven of comfort and luxury. Spacious and elegantly decorated, it featured a king-sized bed with high-quality linens, a well-designed work area, and a modern bathroom with a rainfall shower. The panoramic city views from the floor-to-ceiling windows added an extra touch of sophistication. I was particularly impressed with the in-room amenities, including a state-of-the-art coffee maker and a selection of premium toiletries.

A simple phone call enroute Ranchi, ensured smooth reservation at this property with sprawling greenery. Rooms are spacious and well equipped. Room service team as well as the team at restaurant was courteous.
The Breakfast spread was okay types. My minibar in the room remained lock, that was strange!
The Bar of the Hotel is well stocked and i enjoyed my glass of chilled beer with snacks.
Overall a nice experience of hospitality and good food!

BNR chanakya Hotel in Ranchi is a worth stay to enjoy the delicious food. Multicuisine restaurant, lush green lawns, fountain at the entrance and good parking is a great plus point. The service is excellent. One point you should not miss - stay in ground floor heritage rooms- u get a feeling of british way of luxury and ambience. Mr subhasish, I found to be very helpful. Asish tiwary with his charming attitude is worth mentioning. The over all incharge is Mr Sudheer Mishra- he has done a commendable job in maintaining the glory of BNR and managed by Chanakya Group

A pleasant place to stay. The reception staff need to be more cordial and open towards customers though. Also essentials like buckets and toilet rolls should be already there in the room before check in. Overall would rate the location and services as very good.

After a gap of 6 months , I visited Ranchi for business tour and opted for Chanakya BNR once again to stay . As expected , Chanakya BNR was at best in terms of taking care of customers in post Covid era with all precautionary parameters . Right from entrance to exit every small concerns are noticed without providing any inconvenience to customers. This was probably the reason of full occupancy despite current situation , which I could notice . As a regular customer I am thankful to Chanakya BNR management for such ongoing care and concern for customers….
