Detailed Reviews
Me and my husband had visited this resort and checked in around evening. We had clearly clarified with the owner over phone that we will have lunch and then checkout the next day but the owner did not told us extra charges will be applicable. While checking out the next day the owner requested us to pay Rs. 2000/- for the half day spent at the resort which was not communicated to us whilst booking. Hence requesting all to clarify twice the total tariff for the duration stayed at the resort with the owner before booking and paying the advance to avoid shortage of funds while traveling.

ok, so my wife and I decided to spend a day in Bordi with our year old baby. we were told that an AC room would be Rs. 2250/- per night, exclusive of meals. when we reached the hotel, we were shown to our room, which was basically a stand-alone cubicle. despite the title of my review, i am going to try to be objective, so here goes!
POSITIVES
1. The room was clean, as were the beds and the bathroom.
2. the linens seemed fresh.
3. the food was home-tasting and wholesome.
NEGATIVES
1. Despite paying full price for an AC room, the hotel does not have a generator that supports the AC if the power goes. The power went 3 times in the one day we spent at that place. the only other source of air is a floor fan, which isnt too useful.
2. We requested the owner's wife for a scrambled egg for our son. They gave it to us... but charged us 50 BUCKS for it!!! ONE SCRAMBLED EGG FOR A BABY WAS 50 BUCKS!
3. We were told that we could use the pool. I asked the owner if the water was clean enough to bring our baby in. He said he had it changed just that morning. Later, when I asked his wife the same, she said that it had been changed FOUR days back, so i could take the baby in. Now, this may seem petty and inconsequential, but most parents want to be safe when taking their children into public pools. Despite knowing why we were asking, the owners had absolutely NO compunctions about lying to us about it.
4. and now, for the icing on the cake! When the final bill came, we were charged, (in addition to RS. 2250 for the room, and Rs. 1600 for the food... oh and lets not forget the Rs. 50 for one small scrambled egg) Rs. 50 additionally for 'cleaning the room" and VAT! WHo does that???
I wont come back. Let me tell you why. WHen u go on a holiday, you are prepared to spend money. But when someone tries to swindle you... it leaves a permanent bad taste in your mouth.
so, Mr and Mrs Dastoor, Thanks for the stay, but we aint coming back!

Response from areez d, Owner at Goolkush Resort
Responded 16 Oct 2014
Dear Sir, We are sad to learn that you were not happy with our services as we always want to make our customers happy and provide them with all they need.We have understood your problems and would like you to come back to us to see the changes which have already been taken into consideration.Allow us to further explain our selves for the misunderstandings. >You were allotted 3 rooms as per request and family size.;the last room being a small cottage room for couples was not a {cubicle meant for four persons}.On the other hand 2 large rooms of 4 beds and one room of 3 beds was provided, Which was at the groups discretion for division of 6 adults and 2 children which is beyond our control. >We regret the inconvenience caused because of the power from state supply as this is a problem in our rural area throughout Maharashtra, and all rooms have a written warning stating that only Air-conditioning will not function during these times. >We understand your concern about the 50 rupees scramble egg and promise to revise our rates as our scramble eggs come with 2 eggs and cooked in rich butter and served with bread and butter all inclusive for children less than 5 years of age we offer a 50% discount,we are sorry you did not enjoy it and plan to improve in this area as well. >The swimming pool complies already to strict cleanliness levels and state of the art cleaning machines and filters to maintain the waters TDS and ph levels to exceptional standards, after your review we have upgraded with a digital Tester which will further improve on customers satisfaction we are again sorry to hear that your questions did not receive a uniform answer. This is because the "owners wife answered that the entire pool water was changed 4 days ago as the pool was entirely cleaned on its monthly cycle" whereas the owners answer meant that the regular suction brooming was done that day before in the morning as usual on its frequency". >We are in process of identifying the error in your final bill as we do not charge separate rates in our boarding and lodging plan which is all inclusive and has no such breakup as mentioned by you. >We enjoyed providing you with the complimentary sweet dish which was provided by us for all 8 in your group from our side.on your group special request.is our icing on your cake for your stay with us. >We do not charge VAT or any other taxes apart from Luxury Tax which am sure most and all resorts and hotels have to charge...Unfortunately this is the only area in which we cannot promise to improve in, as it is beyond our hands and is something we have to charge as per our government norms. >Please do come back as you will surely enjoy your self as the changes as per your review have been taken into serious consideration.

Good accommodation, Swimming pool is well maintained.
Home made food is available (Choice of Veg or Non-Veg).
Breakfast : One Omelet and 2 paws costs Rs. 125/-. One tea costs Rs. 25/-. Lunch costs Rs. 400/- (per head)
I had booked the resort through online Stayzilla Assist www.stayzilla.com.
Booked 4 bedroom accomodation with 4 adults and 1 child (seven years old). Was told that child below 12 will not be charged.
But on reaching the resort, the owner said they have not received any intimation from anybody and no money has been transferred in his account. But he had a room for 5 people. He also said that child above 2 will be charged as adult. He asked me to pay full amount and seek refund from Stayzilla. I called-up stayzilla office and they told Mr.Pervez that the amount of Rs. 3000/- is already transfered on 21st Oct. Mr. Pervez insisted that I pay additional amount for child, which I paid.

It's a perfect stage set for a bollywood con-man movie...with sweet talks mask behind a cunning mentality to suck money out of customer's wallet.
Room tarriff is extreamly expensive compared to facility provided. The food quality is "Okay" but not value for money.
It is a first resort (?), where one has to pay for using swimming pool (INR 75/ person/session)
So, my suggestion, pls. avoid this place, if you can....

We stayed for a Night there and checked in @ 4 Pm the earlier day. To my surprise , I felt we booked room in military camp.
Reasons :
1. You can go for swimming only once in a day even if you book for 2 days, the next day it will be chargable . Also, the timings are very odd , morning 8 to 10:30 am and evening from 4 to 6:30 PM !!!!!
2. Extra 200 will be charged for any additional member if you booked room for 3 , only 3 people allowed.
3. You cannot bring outside food.
4. You cannot eat inside the room.
5. You cannot smoke.
6 . To my surprise, the Mistress of this Resort started arguing with my wife as she was feeding breakfast to my daughter and she started saying " Does anybody feed breakfast for 45 minutes, you people went out of resort in the evening and came very late ,is it the way people stay in resor?? etc..etc...
7. In house food is way costly.
8. Poor Housekeeping services.
This was my worst and horrible experience so far ...and suggest not to even enter into the premises of it.

Visited Bordi Beach with friends on 15th April 2017. Going through the tripadvisor reviews, we planned to stay at "Hill ZILL", but since that was houseful, Goolkush was the only decent option we had there.
we were 4 people so we opted for 4 bedded room
check in - 5.45 PM
checkout - Next day 12.15 PM
Our experience with Goolkush:
Positives:
1. The lawn and the garden
2. The service during dinner by the helper Kamalgazi
P.S. - We ordered food from outside (Golden Hotel)
4. Bed was really good - specially the mattress
Negatives:
1. TV - 22" TV with TATA sky connection
a) Remote was not working and Tata sky was not recharged. On requesting the owner changed the remote and recharged the TV but with few minimum channels - Not a single music channel was accessible
b) After 12 in the night - Again channel stopped featuring. - They recharged only for the calendar day - Ridiculous
c) 22 inch TV is small for a 4 bedded room as the viewing distance is long - View was obstructed from the second bed due to presence of an Almirah
2. Food - We had to order from outside
a) They only have combo meal - veg and nonveg. as we were group of friends, we planned to have some starters with drinks and light dinner
b) They suggested us, we can get the non veg from Golden Hotel.
3. Behavior of the hosts: We really did not like that
a) Too much interrupting - We got Sprite from outside and they questioned us why we did not buy from them
b) if they are unable to provide us the food and request to get from outside - Questioning for 600 ml bottle of Sprite is really not expected
3. Payment - Cad was not accepted - issues with their internet connection. we were forced to pay part amount by Cash and rest was accepted using Paytm.
4. They hotel is priced high for the amenities provided. Though washroom was clean but the room was not that clean - Floor needed broomig/mopping

Room were ok, old style on AC and TV was there. No such attraction seen to visit again. Food served in day and night time was of same flavour, The food we get is not the worth we pay, no side dish, no sweet dish serves with lunch or dinner, pay extra for icecream. Paying Rs. 1800/- per head for 4 persons is not worth the room / food / facilities we get. No customer demand is fulfilled and rude behaviour of manager, No recreation activities done and night is boring.

I've been to Gulkhoosh thrice. Twice, to just eat there and perhaps use the pool and once to stay.
For food, it is undoubtedly one of the best in the area. It is home cooked and a healthy qty charged at per head rates. It IS pricey, but much healthier than the MTDC place down the road. If travelling in a group, it is a fun trip and any room should suffice, but if you are travelling as a couple, ensure you ask for a room which does not have a connecting door with the neighbouring room. Unfortunately, we took one such very spacious room and could hear our noisy neighbours all through out (from running the water in the washroom to a repeated early morning alarm). The trip was altogether pleasant except for the large and noisy group of families that was visiting at the time who had neither the courtesy to keep it down nor the sensitivity to private space. We were entertained by the extremely loud music from their parked vehicle at each meal time although they were persuaded to lower the volume by shutting one door of the vehicle :)
Aside from that, weekdays are a better time to visit as the place gets rather busy on weekends and the rooms are close together so it ends up being quite raucous. It is not a professionally managed property so be prepared to handle 1-2 kids in the way of help and serving of food. The owners wife prepares the food herself and you can ask for Parsi dishes in advance. Avoid the basic rooms as these are rather small and have metal roofing. They even have huge ventilators to let in lots of light but there is no way to screen them. The owner is a little money-minded but then, he is running a business. We also had some problem with the hot water as the 'central heating' of the geyser is a wood furnace powered geyser and common to a couple of rooms. After our neighbours had used up the water, we had to find the owner and ask for more water and finally I ended up having a cold water bath. For 1500 bucks a night for the 4 bed living quarters, I guess it was a good deal.
It is more like a large homestay, if you ask me where you need to catch hold of the owner for anything which can be a little inconvenient if it is at an odd hour when he may be resting.
A trip to the nearby dam and some orchards provide some off site entertainment. Nearby hotel (i think it was called Anand), is a veg place with some rooms and a largeish pool with orchards on one side and fields on the other. Nearby MTDC resort has beach facing huts with full screen windows for an unrestricted view of the beach. We'd chosen Gulkhoosh for the food but would want to plan more carefully.

Goolkush Resort in Bordi town is a decent spacious place to stay especially for a person like me who is hooked to Home stays and likes the warmth of a family atmosphere. This coming from the fact in some home stays in South – especially Coorg and Wayanad where I have stayed earlier ,have found the hosts to be extremely receptive and taking great pride in knowing you well and ushering in their unique family hospitality. This can be disappointing in this place and somehow similarities are not the same.
While the owner-Pervez Dastur is a warm person (and has a uncanny resemblance to Soli Sorabjee) – he can be a tad money minded and I think is clearly overpriced for the kind of amenities his rooms have. The rooms are a mix of solid blocks and aluminium huts and for the amenities inside (including non availability of hot water and no phones) – they are overpriced. He is also very finicky about food preparations – especially if you are there with Parsi food on your mind—better give him a 1 day advance notice and discuss the price and menu since he has to literally go and source the items...So while a Mutton Dhansak and Saali boti may not be a big deal ..Anything exotic...like Patra nu macchii (smoked pomfret in banana leaves) and Lagan –nu-Bhonu (a marriage preparation item for Parsis which has a mashed mutton base to it) can be a stretch .And Food while tasty is again a bit pricier on that side as well...but I guess that’s ok.
And yes the icing on cake is the swimming pool. And no he doesn’t charge 70 Rs – he charges 100 Rs now (and not sure since I went in winter it was perhaps an extra tax on using in an offseason...ehh!! I swear this distaste is that one thing that really lasts in your memory) .But the swimming charge is clearly a very cheesy proposition to the fact when in most hotels/resorts around the world – they are part of package and complementary. I would rather suggest that he includes it in his pricing or charge boom money because 100 bucks speaks more of your mind and your thinking than of the state of the swimming pool .Your urge to splash around in a pool- it’s clearly positioned to put you off with this fees.
Mr Dastur – a very hands on mechanical guy can regale with you his typical Parsi accent can also be very blunt (I won’t say rude though) as it seems that he has this penchant of being on the face remarks (somebody in our company had just dipped their legs in the pool and he chastised by saying that it’s not a Dhobi Ghat where you can dip your legs in)..Remarks like those in hospitality business can be a real turn off and had it not been for the Ultimate Bawaji plain speak or the Parsi stiff upper lip that got displayed for his geriatric age ..And which is where we were more than ready to hear his rumblings and excuse him...he would have really ruffled potential customers although how much correct he may be for the proper treatment of his swimming pool.
But still recommended since it has an old world feel, the food is homemade and decently ok and if you want to have an ice cream in Bordi – he may be the only one( Surprising – but true!!.At least am not complaining as I had a Cassata after a long time and you don’t see them anymore- at least in Bangalore)...And yes for all the car owners – there is ample space for parking inside and outside...infact outside parking may be safe as inside parking has lot of coconut trees cover and if you are not to keen to have your windscreen smashed by the canopy of trees near your room – park outside.

24x7 power supply as far as lights and fans are concerned are provided.T.V's and A/c's do not work during a power shutdown.Rooms have all the fasilites that are required and are kept extremely clean and are very big and specious rooms compared to the competition and is made out of regular RCC Construction according to regulations"The Room That Our Dear Customer has been referring to is infant a utility room",hot water is available at the tap 24x7 but not on a switch as it is a central heating system. Our swimming pool is been kept according to the U.S standards of cleanliness and is chlorinated and the P.H of the water is kept to its standard for the best experience of sweet and hygienic quality.Parsee food preparations are usually very rare and expensive to make as it involves rich ingredients all we require is a 3 hour advance notice and we start from scratch to maintain quality and freshness in the food our guests have.Nothing is kept leftover or marinated or refrigerated.Swimming pool charges are inclusive when u take the Lodging & Boarding Plan and u can use the pool 24x7.The basic plans do not have this feature but u can pay as and when u need to use the pool.We are sorry about your grievances and will be sure to make amendments to make your stay better next time.Do visit us again.
