This hotel is in a beautiful location with lovely gardens overlooking the river Tyne. We stayed here for 3 nights over spring bank - our first visit to this area. Our room was spacious and comfortable and spotlessly clean, with a really big bathroom. Food at breakfast and dinner was excellent, as was afternoon tea. All the staff were really...

This should be the perfect hotel. It has a beautiful location in the heart of Northumberland right next to the river and very close to a lot of Roman ruins. The gardens are beautiful and on first glance the outside of the hotel looks the same. However that's where it ends. The hotel is tired, beyond shabby chic! Rusty plug...

Thank you for taking the time to leave a review. I am sorry that your stay was marred by these issues. I shall investigate into the issues raised regarding the bathrooms as we try to grout the tiles as regular as possible. We have purchased new locks for the changing rooms which will be installed once we have finished the...

The hotel's garden overlooks the river Tyne, a lovely location. A very enjoyable stay. Our first at Coast and Country but we will be back. One gripe is no cheese and biscuits on the afters list unless choose the dearer menu whereas at the Bay chain owned by the same company it is a choice each night. We did have...

Stayed in January and hotel was really busy. had a bit of a walk to get to my room but once ther the room was nice and clean, staff were very friendly and helpful and the food was really good. If down that way again I would definitely stay here again.

We had a short break here to visit the Roman Wall and some other historic sites in the area. The hotel is well located in a rural setting next to Chollerford Bridge which spans the North Tyne River. It is set in pleasant gardens leading down to the river side. There is good car parking at the front and rear...

Have stayed at Coast and Country Hotel chain before. However, the big disappointment was the food included on the half board option. Elected for a upgrade on room, which was good choice. Returning to the food the menu choice poor and dated. Lacked seasoning flavour felt it was the depths of winter with leeks, turnips, swede and apple crumble not...

Thank you for taking the time to leave a review. I am sorry that the food was not up to your expectations. All Coast and Country Hotels use the same evening menu's and a majority of the same suppliers, how ever I will pass your comments on to the Head Chef. Once again thank you for your review.

Stopped at The George for 1 night whilst walking Hadrians Wall. Friendly reception and great location right by ancient bridge. Our room had a river view and was very comfortable. The bathroom was in need of refurbishment and was a little shabby considering the price we paid ie £95 for the night with breakfast. We didn't have evening meal at...

Thank you for your review. I am sorry that the bathroom was not up to your expectations. We do have an ongoing refurbishment plan and this will be seen to hopefully in the near future. This is a great hotel for exploring the Northumbrian countryside. The room we stayed in was in need of refurbishment but clean and and had everything you needed, even an iron and ironing board. Would highly recommend this hotel for rooms, food, ambience, value for money and facilities. We arrived bang on 3pm and were told our room was ready immediately. Thank you for your review. We are glad that you enjoyed your stay with us at the George. We are also glad that you enjoyed and made use of the facilities. Official Description (provided by the hotel)
Set in a beautiful river front location, just five miles from the market town of Hexham, the George at Chollerford is a historic building dating back to the 1700's renowned for its fine food and hospitality. It is great to have such a history behind the hotel as we feel we are doing an excellent job of keeping the tradition going, but we have also spent a lot of money upgrading a number of facilities in the hotel including the leisure club, with its swimming pool and gym, situated west of Newcastle we are in ideal spot for walkers, history buffs and gardeners alike - you will be spoilt for choice. The hotel is a perfect retreat in a location that we consider to be one of the most relaxing in Northumbria. ... more   less
