This is a Coast and Country Hotel owned by Shearings, it's one of many they own, and is run purely to make money, while the staff try to make the best of it. We had three phone calls plus an e mail to get our booking of two rooms, asking for two rooms bed and breakfast, only to have bed...

This will be the kind of chain who will quickly rebut with the response that you didn't raise an issue the time. Sometimes there is no point because you can't polish a poo. No amount of cleaning or decorating could improve the fabric of a building that simply needs a big refurb. Here goes anyway. After a long day's walking...

I recently stayed at the Beaumont whilst on business, on arrival it was clearly evident that major renovations were taking place. From the work that had been completed it was apparent that the remainder would be to a high standard. The room I had appeared to be a revamped one and was excellent with all the amenities. Breakfast next Morning...

We stayed for one night while walking the wall. The walk from reception to room was lengthy to say the least. The building itself does seem dated. However, the staff are lovely. The waitress who took our evening meal order could speak little English but despite the comedy she was absolutely charming. Please please keep her !

Thoroughly enjoyed our 4 night stay in this gorgeous hotel that is full of wonderful old world charm. The rooms were extremely comfortable, spacious, well appointed and very clean. The hotel facilities included a heated pool and spa (though the smell of the chlorine was indeed quite intense) as well as a gym. The staff were, without exception, extremely friendly...

The plus side of this hotel is that is perfectly located for exploring hadrians wall and surrounding area. Beautiful riverside tranquil location. However it is a tired dated hotel in need of major renovation. Touching up areas with Farrell and Ball paint doesn't hide the fact much need to be done to bring the hotel up to standard. Second morning...

Hotel situated by the river with large water garden providing outdoor seating and a view for relaxing in the sunny weather. Recent redecoration and furnishing made the public areas welcoming as were the staff. The plus bedroom was in the new corridor wing, providing the usual facilities, plenty of storage and comfortable. Restaurant not overcrowded, staff efficient and friendly plus...

Beautiful setting etc but this hotel is very tired - at least, our room was, as are the corridors (most doors were battered). In fact we had to change room on the first night because the heating or plumbing was making so much noise. Reception didn't seem interested and just gave us the key to another room. This was smaller...

Hi HG, Thanks for taking the time to post your review with us, sorry to read the plumbing disturbed your sleep. Our building is very old but not 500 year.. unfortunately i cant comment on the rooms you booked or were moved too. tripadvisor gives us little detail to comment on as we have no customer information to hand. unusual...

The room was very tired and dated for the price. Uncomfortable bed that seemed to slope(?). Bar meal steaks were okay but starters tasted like they were Pre packed not homemade. Reception staff were friendly and helpful but having been told by them that we could help ourselves to toast for breakfast as we were leaving early, we were treated...

Hi Adelle, Sorry the room didn't meet your expectations, unfortunately with this kind of platform access to booking information is difficult to impossible. I am shocked to see the restaurant staff were rude, they are continually praised for the services, I can only mention this to the food & beverage manager, again without dates etc its difficult to find the...

Looked OK in the brochure but on arrival entry to the reception area was grubby with paint peeling on the woodwork around the door. As for the room allocated to us, room 109. The decor was tired to say the least as was the hotel in general. The colour if it can be called that was a mid grey and...

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
Set in a beautiful river front location, just five miles from the market town of Hexham, the George at Chollerford is a historic building dating back to the 1700's renowned for its fine food and hospitality. It is great to have such a history behind the hotel as we feel we are doing an excellent job of keeping the tradition going, but we have also spent a lot of money upgrading a number of facilities in the hotel including the leisure club, with its swimming pool and gym, situated west of Newcastle we are in ideal spot for walkers, history buffs and gardeners alike - you will be spoilt for choice. The hotel is a perfect retreat in a location that we consider to be one of the most relaxing in Northumbria. ... more   less
