I recently stayed at the wonderful Abbotsford as leader of a small group of wildlife enthusiasts. We were made extremely welcome by Janhavi Prasada and her attentive staff, and we enjoyed the delicious food and drinks that were served impeccably. Janhavi's touch can be seen everywhere, with beautiful furniture and paintings, even in the modern annexe, which has been tastefully designed and decorated to fit in with the older heritage main building. This will most certainly not be my last visit to Abbotsford, and I look forward to welcoming, together with Janhavi, guests to this remarkable property in the future, on wildlife tours that I will be leading in the footsteps of my grandfather, F W Champion OBE IFS, who together with Jim Corbett was one of the pioneers of wildlife conservation in India. I thoroughly recommend a stay at Abbotsford!

A group of 6 birders stayed at this hotel for 2 nights during our tour of North India. The accomodation was ideally situated in a quieter part of the area, was very comfortable. A colonial style building with ample space. The staff were very helpful, friendly and attentive. Meals were excellent with lunch and breakfast on the lawns and diner served in a spacious dining room in the original house. I am happy to recommend Abbotsford to anyone wishing to stay in this scenic area of North India

An absolute idyll, just a stunning setting, perched in the hills above the bustling and quaint town of Nainitsl, views during morning breakfast sat on the lawn, the clear mountain air and the echo of Indian birdlife just heaven spent, even for just a few days, met the owner what a charming host, cheers for the Brandies.

A lovely old house set amongst the trees with gorgeous views. The rooms are traditional in style but are very nice and clean. Due to it being cold at night in December in Nainital, heaters , log fires and electric blankets are all provided so the rooms were very cosy. The food was excellent, the staff were so nice and couldn’t do enough in catering to all our needs. The manager was always around making sure everything went smoothly. Chandra , our guy who looked after us the most was a lovely chap and nothing was too much trouble for the staff. Recommend staying at the Abbotsford. .

Fantastic location and beautiful room. Food and service were first class. So nice to sit in the garden having lunch and dinner and listening to the birds We would thoroughly recommend it too others. Shame about Nainital as a town. Bit messy and crowded but lots of places to visit away from the town, especially to view the Himalayas

Nestled in a corner of Nainital , whose notorious Mall road can be avoided if you take the Kaladhungi route, is gem of a property . The place is replete with history and culture . A generous dose of which is sprinkled all over .. Books , paintings , artifacts .. The staff , the lady caretaker , the owner .. everyone is so discretely caring that you feel the warmth of home in a holiday .. Food from the inhouse Cafe Chica , was fantastic ... The salmon .. so far away from its origin was perfectly done and blew our mind .. A property i can go back to .. even just to eat the food .. again and again ..

A hidden gem in nainital - beautiful quiet place with a sense of history and wonderful hospitality … this caught us by surprise as nainital has unfortunately become so crowded over the last few years ended up extending my trip to spend 3 extra days just reading in the lawn with the great view… strongly recommend if you want a quiet, charming get away with fantastic food and views.. also hat tip to jahnavi - the proprietor, for the guided tour and great conversation :)

We were made to feel very welcome by the owner’s daughter Janhavi at this elegant home nestled high up in the hills. The bedroom was spacious and very comfortable. A log fire was laid on in the late afternoon in the adjacent sitting room which made the place feel very welcoming and the food was homely and delicious. We enjoyed walking down to the town. We would highly recommend.

This family owned property is a gem nestled away in the forested hills of Nanital. Great location, really pleasant and clean rooms, but the thing that makes this such a good place to stay is Jhanavi and her team of well trained staff. Built in 1876, Jhanavi’s family have owned this property since 1903. Every corner of the property is a piece of family heritage, and has a story to tell. The location offers nature walks, boating on lake Nanital, early morning hikes, picture perfect views of the valley for painters and photographers alike. And for those just wanting to relax, Chica, the endearing Pug, offers her company.
