We stayed several night in Apsley House, enjoying the spacious top floor room, the adjacent well stocked library and fireside, and the garden views. We loved the family history of the place, the friendly and interesting host, and the helpful staff. The location was quiet enough to escape the bustle of Nainital but close enough to be able to walk downhill to the lakeside. We visited in November and there was sufficient heating in our rooms to keep us comfortable.
If one has read Jim Corbett and think about his younger days in the hills, this is the neighbourhood of his mum's and friends. Prasada family have done an excellent job to retell a story of a hunter turned naturalist who had his foundations here. Jhanavi is an excellent host, a good walker and the area around Abbotsford is spectacular through her storytelling walks. We had a short time but Jhanavi made sure I grasp what Nainital was discovered for! The Kumaoni meal I had has been one of my favourites, loved the presentation! Every piece in the bungalow is carefully presented to tell the yesteryears stories. Her team of Kumaoni boys take excellent care of the guests, I loved the little perches and spots around the garden where breakfast was served! Especially the Turkish eggs! For a naturalist, your ears and eyes are always busy in Abbotsford, snuggling into the Nainital's mountains, you could stare at the rocky tops from the garden and watch Gorals or Barking Deer, a Buzzard so on. The garden is busy with Laughing thrushes, woodpeckers, Treecreepers, Blue-throated Barbets and Scimitar babblers. The flowers are full of Himalayan butterflies nectaring. I've had a great time and surely come back to this naturalist's perch often in different seasons.…
I walked up to check the rooms and was met by an extremely brusque Mrs Aleem who was arrogant , pushy and after much persuasion agreed to show me the rooms she’s booking .They we’re new with the look of a heritage whereas the heritage one is the one the owners use and that’s not sold .Inhad lunch a measly chicken but the view was nice so I went back the next day to cafe chica .This lady actually asked me to vacate as I had just finished my measly chicken and cold coffee .I left , never to return ,It’s overpriced and the staff is terrible

We stayed at Abbotsford for 2 nights during a recent trip to the hills. It had been highly recommended to us by our close friends, and it exceeded our expectations. Apsley House is a wonderfully appointed 4 bedroom cottage within the estate and it was simply outstanding. It had great views, and the rooms were warm and extremely comfortable. The highlight of Apsley is the lounges between each two room cluster, and we spent several hours in the lounge during our brief stay. The entire estate has the indelible imprint of having been established and curated by the care and thought of its owner Jahnavi, and it really shows. Mrs Aleem runs the property impeccably, while also being extremely helpful. The food was excellent (I have reviewed Cafe Chica separately as well), and the service was top notch. Bharat in particular was outstanding. The estate is serene and spacious, so it's difficult to imagine that one is less than a minute or two from the High Court, or a 15 minute stroll from Mall Road. The three of us including my wife and 6 year old daughter had a memorable stay, and I highly recommend a visit to Abbotsford.…
One cannot miss the vibe and old world charm of Abbotsford no matter what. I had visited Abbotsford for the first time on a winter afternoon of 2015 and this place etched a mark on my conscience ever since. My second visit happened recently in 2021, after many moons, rains and snowfalls but I must admit, this place is still the reservoir of the same energy and timelessness. I stayed at the Wordsworth Suite with my darling mum and the unparalleled warmth was never experienced before. Mrs. Aleem beautifully manages the place and the staff and she ensured that our stay is not just comfortable but one where we feel absolutely at home. Would have loved to make acquaintance with Ms. J. Prasada but unfortunately our visits didn't coincide. Cannot wait to visit again and soon.
Stayed in Woodsworth villa in this property with family. Right since the time of check in the experience was brilliant! Mrs Aleem( manager) went out of her way to make our stay comfortable. Rooms were large with a wrap around balcony, a fireplace and bedrooms. Dinner menu was changed on a daily basis (kumaoni thali was brilliant!). Breakfast on the lawns was equally good. Away from the hustle and bustle of the mall road buy yet close enough to access the lake with a 15 minute walk. All in all, out of this world and highly recommended.
It’s a beautiful place away from the hustle bustle of the town. Beautifully restored heritage building with lovely greens all around. Mrs Alim the lady who runs the show is very polite and hospitable. The rooms are beautifully decorated and comfortable. The food is delicious!!
We had a wonderful experience at Abbotsford. It’s the perfect getaway in the Himalayas. Gorgeous heritage building, high quality rooms, delicious food, and a gracious hostess. The staff went over and beyond to help make our stay enjoyable. I highly recommend this boutique homestay for anyone visiting Nainital.
This heritage homestay was much more than what I expected. If you’re looking for peace and tranquility in the Himalayas, this is the perfect place to be, supplemented with delicious food at the Cafe Chica, special mention to the fabulous Kumaoni Thali and the sweet little pug Chica. You can just sit there in the lawn, doing nothing and enjoying the bright sun and the grand Himalayas or you can just bring out your creative side in this peaceful and serene surrounding. The interiors are also very tastefully done, oozing warmth and vibrance. Special thanks to Janhavi Prasad, whose warmth and hospitality made our stay definitely memorable. Look forward to visit the place soon.
