This was my second trip to the estate. Run by the lovely Lall family, the place is a perfect getaway for anyone interested in nature, treks, walks, solitude with the option of lovely evening conversation with like minded travellers. A 2 km uphill walk from Matial village, Jilling blows you away with the beauty of its trees, the birds, the...

Went between 18-22 December. A mere 1.5 hrs. drive by cab to Matial village and a 2 km uphill walk through forest, villages and fields to the estate. They now have a road that allows a small vehicle to drive up to the property adjoining the estate, but the essence of the trip is to take the walk. The experiences...

On expressing eagerness to get best view of mountains and birds, we were suggested the DERA cottage, the topmost one, out of five such at different elevations in the Estate. The arrangements starting from sending porter to carry luggage from Matial...

We reached Kathgodam from Delhi by Ranikhet Express. The train reached early in the morning by 4.30 am. It was still dark. A car was sent from Jiling Estate Owner, Captain Steve Lall, a retyired Air-force Pilot, to take us up to Matial, around 10 km from Bhimtal on the way to Padampuri. From Matial village we had to trek...

I was not a bird watcher until I was at this paradise called Jilling... while my stay was pretty short but I had a pleasure to watch these 2 birds, somehow they were always seen together, they fly together, eat and play together.. perhaps fight together too.. .. I loved watching them again and again at a place which has...
