Luckily we arrived in sunny spring days and the resort is huge with lots of green. The ocean is right in front of their big infinity pools. They were decorating for Vietnamese Lunar Holidays with lots of flowers everywhere The rooms were clean and comfortable and breakfast was ok. We pre - odered our lunch and the seafood dishes were so fresh and delicious. Staff were friendly and helpful, the sale team here were very skillful and they gave us lots of infomation before we booked rooms. We tried massage packages and it was relaxing. What an odd place this is! My husband is teasing me as I write this review that staff at the hotel’s breakfast buffet are probably still looking for a knife to cut the watermelon that needed to be replenished at the fruit station this morning. I had asked for more watermelon, and after 30 minutes, we decided to leave - without sampling the watermelon. If staff is fairly inefficient, they are for the most part extremely friendly and willing to help.
None of them seem to know what is going on: for instance, we arrived famished at 2 pm, and one staff told us that we couldn’t eat, because the cafe was closed. However, drinks were available at the Oceanview bar. Well, we were able to order food from the cafe’s menu there, after all. So with proper training, I believe the resort might be better. On that note, thank goodness for the reviewer who mentioned that the reception wanted to keep his passport. When they wanted our passports for the WHOLE duration of our 3-day stay, I told them that was not going to happen. I waited for them to process and return all documents while I was standing by the desk. Don’t they have a scanner? Now, for the room, it’s big, features some kind of hardwood or synthetic floors, and it’s clean. However, the sign entreating guests to place the shower curtain inside the bathroom during the shower is ludicrous. We ended up with a pool in the bathroom just because of the huge gap between the bathtub and the wall on the shower head side as well as on the opposite side. Water is bound to seep through and end up on the floor, regardless whether the curtain is in. Not only that, but the tub was dangerously slippery.
Otherwise, the pools are great looking. We didn’t use them because it was pouring rain all day. We did use La Bella Spa, on the villa resort side. Its decor was quite luxurious, the massage very good and in line with local prices. However, that side of the resort felt even more eery than our side, where we saw the occasional guest: the villas felt like a ghost town.
To end on a positive note, the beds are very comfortable.

The resort is very large with a nicely landscaped garden. The area is a nice part where there are private villas. The hotel part is clean with slightly outdated equipment. Mainly bathroom with bathtub. Breakfast quite satisfying. The 5-star hotel lacked a larger selection, there was no espresso, a small selection of fruit .. I was most disappointed by the beach. No sunbeds or umbrellas, it was not cleaned, garbage everywhere and the sea was also dirty. Here they don't count on anyone going to the beach. If you want to go for the beach and the sea, then definitely not here. The pools in the resort nice, but again, the number of guests lacked a deck chair. At the pool they wanted 100k for renting an inflatable ring and a water toy for children. The food in the restaurant did not correspond to the price-quality ratio. Frozen dough pizza ... The cocktails were good. Five stars is definitely not it. But we still enjoyed it.

This is supposedly one of the better hotels in Dong Hoi, and the property has some very nice points to it, but it also doesn't have an international standard of service you might expect, and caters mostly to domestic tourists. The property is large and sits right on the beach, with two separate lobbies (one for the regular rooms and one for the larger villas). The landscaping over in the villa section of the property is immaculate, with beautiful lotus ponds, bridges, trees, etc. As for the beach itself, it's not really a place to swim, and I don't think anyone did. The water isn't clean here, but it is nice to look at.
The hotel seems to have events going on all the time. Every day there was a different corporate retreat there. One night in particular they had a stage setup and were blaring extremely loud music until very late. Even sitting in the lounge area you couldn't hear yourself or your friends talk. This though is kind of standard in many places in Vietnam.
The breakfast was nice, they have two breakfast rooms. With the corporate retreats and things going on they can get quite busy, but really it wasn't too much of a zoo. The other restaurants on the property were fine, nothing special, but pretty good food. I think if you want fresh seafood though it would be better to go out of the hotel.
There. are two pools, a private one for the villa guests and then a bigger one for standard guests. Some of the private villas actually have their own pools attached to the room, facing the beach, which are quite nice.
We used this hotel as a jumping off point to go to Phong Nha, and I would recommend it to other travelers who want to have a resort stop.

Meh. Apparently this hotel was the first built 5 star hotel in Dong Hoi, honestly I think it has slipped to a 3 star if compared internationally with other hotels. I can see it might have been grand when first built, but it is now tired. Broken room safe, broken television, dark hallways. Policy does not provide irons or ironing boards to guests. Policy does not let you dry hand-washed clothes on balcony, if housecleaning comes in… they will take your clothes and charge you a cleaning fee. Hotel is remote and only close to the beach. Primarily a taxi is needed for transportation to get anywhere. No convenience necessities are on site. There are not many guests and over all vibe is sad. The hotel provides a decent breakfast and the outside grounds are kept up. Rooms seem to be clean, but dated. The staff at the front desk are nice enough, in the restaurant, meh … again. I would not return nor recommend to others this property.

I have just left SunSpa resort after a lengthy stay due to Covid. Thoroughly enjoyed my time there as the resort offers all that I am looking for: calm, nature, sea, beauty, security and kindness. Although most of the staff doesn’t speak English (hello, this is Vietnam) everyone was supportive and eager to help as quickly as they could and with a smile.
I won’t name all the facilities offered but the resort covers them all, including a small golf course. The restaurant menu became redundant for me due to my long stay, but it offers plenty of choice for a foreigner who might fancy western food. True, it is not a 5 stars restaurant but it is as good as you’ll get in this area in terms of western food.
I have read some negative reviews about the resort and I feel those reflect more on the entitled customer than it does on the resort. I have rarely seen such efficiency anywhere to fix any problem, big or small. It is humbling. I can only highly recommend SunSpa resort and if budget allows, a private oceanfront villa with pool will make you never wanting to leave this oasis. I’m definitely coming back.
