Within a five-minute drive from the hustle and bustle of Gangtok town, the quiet stillness and tranquility pervades the idyllic location of The Shire, where you can sip tea in the garden ad-midst flowers blooming and with the quiet companionship of the flutter of butterfly wings. The mighty Khangchendzonga, the guardian deity of Sikkim lies resplendent in all its glory showering munificence on all who gaze at her. The tradition of Sikkimese hospitality is evident from the fact that The Shire is a home away from home. We believe in not only providing Rooms but providing large open spaces and green areas for our guests. As soon as one enters through the driveway we have a garden area behind the bamboo grove and the garden area connects to the open terrace area from which one can view the opposite valley, with beautiful sunsets, stargaze at night and above all it has a direct view of the summit of the Worlds Third highest peak in all its beauty. Indoors we have a lot of common seating areas with a indoor fireplace and a library.

The Place is good, far from the noisy roads and has good view of the near by mountain, the only issue is, reaching this place by walk, it is like a mini Trek, its too steep and if you love walking and you have kid, it becomes little difficult. Rest all good.

Thank you for your review.I understand its difficult for people from the plains to walk in the hills but as always i would like to point out that Gangtok being a hilly mountainous area,it has its ups and downs regarding the elevation. The only place which is flat is the M.G.Marg area. Shared/Reserved Taxis are readily available throughout the day at the local taxi stand just below our property if you want to go to the town area which takes about 5 mins and taxis are available outside the tourism office at M.G.Marg if you want to come down which will take you 5 mins or less. We hope you enjoyed your stay in Sikkim and hope to see you back soon.

Stayed In the shire guest house from 2nd to 6th January 2018 & it was excellent. This is located below mg marg in a quieter scenery. If you want a pleasant home stay away from the buzz of mg marg this is the place. The room was spacious and so clean and the bathroom was top class like any 5 star hotel you see. Very clean. Beds and sheets were cleaned daily and the room included a HD TV with all channels. Free Wi-Fi & comfy beds and blankets. We opted to have breakfast and dinner and the food was excellent. Mr. Karma and his mom Aunty Norkey tool great care. They fed us some awesome Nepali and sikkimese food non veg ofcourse it was superb and the hospitality was outstanding. From extra blankets to hot water. Geyser was in the bathroom. It was an excellent stay. There is a terrace

Homely environment, personal touch , excellent hospitality, good food, good room , near to market ,near to taxi stand, good service , very co-operative & transparent. Reasonable price & safe , good to have a feeling of stay with local people rather then staying at luxury hotels, ghantok people are so trustful & genuine that you can rely on their advice no cheating. Get your rooms booked in advance .

Back in October I spent few days in gangtok at the shire guest house before and after my meditation course. The house is clean, beautiful, very good location over looking the mountain range at a walking distance from mg marg. It’s the only guest house I have been to with all the warmth of the family and the service of the hotel. Coming back to the room u find it cleaned, the bed arranged with new fresh towel and complimentary tea and coffee and water. Karma and his lovely mother are the best hosts ever. Karma helped me a lot with planning my trip and the mother is so lovely, cooking the best home food and showing me around the house. I couldn’t recommend it enough. It is a home with professional and warm service. Thank u so much for all the care and I hope to be back soon.

The property and the owner Mr.Karma are very friendly and good to meet..very helpful in nature and so is his mother..we are very glad we chose shire..but..someone reviewed the location to be at 5min walk from mg marg..which is lie..for tourists its quite down..and climbing to mg marg from arithang road(location of shire) is a tough issue..but people who admire quiet and want some lone time..its a great place and even for couples..

Thank you for your review. Regarding the time it takes from M.G.marg to our property ,its within 5 mins by taxi and around 10-15 mins walking distance. There are some guests who prefer to walk and some take cabs from the taxi stand below our property. I hope you had a good time at Sikkim. We hope to see you again.Best Regards.
