#7 of 300 B&Bs / Inns in Gangtok
Within a five-minute drive from the hustle and bustle of Gangtok town, the quiet stillness and tranquility pervades the idyllic location of The Shire, where you can sip tea in the garden ad-midst flowers blooming and with the quiet companionship of the flutter of butterfly wings. The mighty Khangchendzonga, the guardian deity of Sikkim lies resplendent in all its glory showering munificence on all who gaze at her. The tradition of Sikkimese hospitality is evident from the fact that The Shire is a home away from home. We believe in not only providing Rooms but providing large open spaces and green areas for our guests. As soon as one enters through the driveway we have a garden area behind the bamboo grove and the garden area connects to the open terrace area from which one can view the opposite valley, with beautiful sunsets, stargaze at night and above all it has a direct view of the summit of the Worlds Third highest peak in all its beauty. Indoors we have a lot of common seating areas with a indoor fireplace and a library.

Scores based on our experience! Distance from city - 4/5 (Not recommended for aged people as you need to climb up to the main road) Rooms Cleanliness - 5/5 Food - Tried once for breakfast 4/5 (You will get better options from outside hotels) Hospitality - 5/5 You will get good deals for the cab from local travels. So, we would recommend you get in touch with the local travels if you prefer low cost sight seeing trips.

Shire is the perfect Home away from Home. At the height of 5413 ft & with company of clouds & cold chilling air,the loudest sound you'll hear is your heartbeat. It was a very humbling and delightful experience for us @ The Shire during our stay in Gangtok. Karma & family were the perfect host one would ever want to get. They were very friendly, yet we had our own space & privacy during the stay. The food served was extremely delicious, thanks to Norkey aunty for preparing the special khichadi for us and also big thank you to Karma for serving us the authentic breakfast of the region. The rooms were spacious and met the standards of hotel industry. One can also catch a glimpse of Kanchenjunga from the home if the weather is clear. Karma also guided us during the local festival
