As a family we wanted to explore nice homestay feel in some luxary heritage kind of place. We found Shire perfectly fitting our requirements. It's a very good property being managed by Mr Karma family. They have a separate block for renting purposes. We stayed in two different category rooms with good scenic view. Food was excellent. They have a good reading place too. My whole family loved this place . If you want some place close enough but still away from hustle busle you may try this property. MG market is walkable 10-15 min.
The Shire is the Better Home away from HOME. In term of Hospitality, ambience & locality. I will recommend to you all. Visitors goes The Shire as visitors, but left from the Shire as Firends or Family . Good Rooms, Good Food & Good People.
Upon arrival we were warmly welcomed by the Owner, I would say Karma & family. Aunty gave blessing to us whole heartedly especially to my daughter like her own grandchild !! It’s a great place to stay. I will give 5/5 to The Shire for our stay. It was the best experience staying there. Location is very beautiful and close to nature. Rooms were well maintained and clean. Lush green garden and variety of plants. We loved the ambience. Home cooked food by their cook Shekhar was yummy. I would highly recommend this place and I would definitely want to come back to this place again.
My experience - The Shire has a caption, "Come as our guests, leave as our friends". And we truly made friends. I thank Karma & family for making our stay a wonderful experience. So I will give 5/5 to The Shire for my stay. Now some more details that might be helpful. Hospitality - Awesome in a single word. Food - Homely, Hygienic. Never had to worry what my kid would eat. Note this a homestay so travellers not wise to expect a restaurant like elaborate menu. One can get good veg and non veg food, please inform in the kitchen beforehand. Rooms - clean, well maintained, room size okay. Bathroom clean. Overall property - lush green surroundings, garden has variety of flower plants and shrubs, a bamboo groove and more, on clear day can see only peak of Kanchenjunga. Has a good terrace. Location - 15 mins to MG market, 10Mins to main road. Very steep climb to main road, that's the only shortcoming of Shire possibly but no a problem for energetic individuals. Elderly people must rely on booked taxis to pick up at the door steps. Positive side is that, it's a good cardio exercise if you walk up to MG market. My verdict - full marks to Shire given the cost of accommodation. Go for it if you need peaceful homely stay.…
Had a wonderful stay with Karma and his family at the Shire. The location, views, food, service were all excellent, but the best part was their kind hospitality. Karma, his Mom and brother were excellent hosts and I learned at lot about Sikkim from them. Thank You! Memorable experience and highly recommended.
We had a very pleasant stay at The Shire, where we were looked after by Karma and his lovely mother. Before we arrived and during our stay, Karma was very helpful, booking us cars and offering sightseeing tips and advice. On our first evening we had a home cooked meal, organically sourced from the garden and local area, and it was delicious. The room and bathroom were large and clean. Worth noting that to get to MG Marg, the main strip in Gangtok, involves a very steep 10 minute walk. It’s perfectly do-able but hard work if you're lazy! The only downside to our stay - which had nothing to do with The Shire itself - was the cloudy weather which meant we were unable to see the mountain views. Apparently the mists can set in for weeks at a time, so good luck if you're going!
The Shire is a quaint homestay with a warm homely aura. It gives you the essence the city holds. The place provides what it promises. We stayed there for three nights and four days. Mr Karma and his family became a family far away from home. We enjoyed the scrumptious home cooked food. We also got an opportunity to chat with his mother. A sweet lady with a warm heart, she shared with us her life experiences of that part of the world. Mr Karma also helped us in planning our sightseeing program. We left the place with luggage full of memories of not only Gangtok but also with the good times we had in The Shire.
We stayed at the Shire for 4 nights last week and it was a great experience. The rooms where clean and the food was delicious- veg, non- veg and local cuisine. They have a lovely garden open to sky with a view of Gangtok city and the peak of the Kanchanjunga. The host and his mother did everything to make our stay memorable and the conversations around their culture, traditions and lifestyle were interesting. A must visit homestay if you want to experience sikkimis hospitality at its best.
This a very peaceful place , in lap of nature. I was amazed to see this nice, cozy place which is only 10-15 min walk from MG Marg. I stayed there one night and in the morning I was awaken by chirping of the birds. I couldn't believe this place actually resides in middle of the town. It has a big terrace with great view (if mother nature blesses you with sunny weather). The host Karma and his mother are very warm people. I enjoyed every bit of it. Only downside was my room. I was a cozy little tiny room however the room was very damp. Otherwise my stay was great here.
The stay was nice. The location is also in center of the city & walkable from the main market of MG Road. The hospitality is excellent and surely will recommend the stay here and experience the same. The breakfast is good.
