The display of local and South East Asian handicrafts, beautiful paintings, Buddhist iconography makes the Bamboo Retreat Hotel seem like an Art Museum. There's a library with a wide range of books from spirituality to natural farming. Also, my favourite place is the Buddhist prayer/meditation room on the top floor. It almost feels like we're in a Gompa. From a design point of view, the architecture is brilliant and I couldn't appreciate more the detailing that would have gone into making each bedroom as each one has a unique concept and differs from the others. Coming out of the hotel, we can see a huge garden meticulously designed using concepts of Permaculture. Many local species of plants could be seen. Some vegetables and herbs for kitchen use are also grown here. Also, the staff takes care of couple of street dogs and cats. Really cute ones. And the hotel has two rabbits of their own in an enclosure and feeding them would become one of my favorite activity in the day. Just adjacent to the hotel, there's a small forest. Even though it belongs to the neighbours, they are quite friendly and allow us to spend time in their forest. The staff consists of both locals and non locals which makes up for a diverse experience. They did organise a walking tour to the nearby village and monastery. It was a very serene experience. …
Experience of a lifetime, that's the explanation of this place. We stayed there for 4 nights (10th - 14th June, 2022) and I must say it was my good luck that I came across this place on the net. The moment we reached here, I knew this was the place. It was a tiring 7 hours journey from Bagdogra but the mere sight of this place covered in mist and cloud when we reach there around 5 PM made all our tiredness vanish. We were welcomed by Tiger, their pet, which made my 3 years daughter reach cloud nine. We stayed in the room Bamboo which had a small stream adjacent to it. The view from the room was awesome, it rained all the 4 night we were there and imagine having your drink in the balcony at the backdrop of an awesome view, rain and soothing sound of the stream. Sooraj, the caretaker was extremely good and helpful and made our stay awesome. Not to mention, Arjun, and I must say that I have never seen a better service than what this gentleman offered us. Imagine telling us that he will serve us the food howsoever late in the night so that we can relax and have fun. He always carried that infectious smile which made us feel at home. My daughter got some friends there in the form of little Anna (Arjun's 7 year old daughter), Tiger and Kaali (two awesome dogs), Billi and her 3 small kittens which made her so exited that she never bothered us while we were enjoying our drinks in the drawing room. And the lovely Tibetan ambient music that they played in the evening made that place even more serene and soothing. Sooraj helped us with a cab driver too throughout the trip which was really helpful. Taxis in Sikkim are veryyyy expensive but didn't mind since it's a tourist place. MG Marg was awesome, Changu lake was decent but the drive to that place was quite an experience. If you are going to MG Marg , don't forget to go to Tashi View Delek restaurant for an awesome experience of having your beer at the backdrop of an enchanting view. Overall an awesome trip we had. Love to the entire staff of Bamboo Retreat. If you have kids and if you want to stay in a serene place away from the chaos of city life, nothing beats this place. And best of luck to Arjun for an awesome service. May God fulfill all your dreams.…
Gangtok options are limited and nowhere near this one. Excellent hotel, food and hospitality by Mr Suraj. They wll take great care of you and give you all the services you need to make your holiday a success.
Rooms are comfortable with balconies, the nightview of gangtok was beautiful, lovely garden and amazing breakfast! We were there with a motorbike tour, and it was the prefect place for us to relax and unwind. We did yoga and meditation in the prayer room, it's one of the most special prayer room i've ever been in.
This is the best hideaway between your travels. Had been here with some friends during a motorbike tour and this was the place to be in order to recharge our energy levels :) House has lovely staff and the rooms are beautiful. Calm and relaxing atmosphere. Amazing breakfast! Would definitely recommend.
No, it’s not in Gangtok. It’s set amid forested mountains in a garden of truly earthly delight! Beautiful views of the surrounding countryside. Fabulous food. Cold beer. Warm fire. Wonderful opportunities for hiking/walking to local monasteries through tiny villages. Quiet. Peace-filled. A great vibe. Best of all, though, is the staff. So kind, so generous with their time, so hospitable. Making momos with Longmit and others in the kitchen—one of the most memorable experiences of my time in India. Group hugs, and, oh, the raucous, joyous laughter. They told us we felt like family, and we felt the same. We loved our time in this lovely home away from home with people who made us feel right at home. Highly recommended.❤️
We stayed at Bamboo Retreat for 2 weeks and i can honestly say it was one of the loveliest places we stayed in all of India. Not only does it sit in gorgeous Sikkimese countryside and boast outstanding views of the mountains, the staff are also unfailingly attentive, kind and welcoming. There are many beautiful monasteries and Lepcha villages to visit in the surrounding area, and the manager Suraj was no end of help when it came to organising day trips further afield. The rooms are incredibly comfortable and tastefully decorated, and the food is delicious. All around amazing place, would recommend to anyone!
Quiet Retreat, to relax and enjoy time in nature, with the garden in front. Nice rooms and local food to taste. As well if you feel cold you can enjoy your food in front of the fire place. Which is really cosy. I enjoyed my trip there and would recommend it to anyone.
