The rooms were large and spacious and if valleyfacing, with a nice view. The roadside rooms are bearable, as people here drive without blowing their horns continuously like the rest of India. Room service is a bit hit and miss, they forget to restock toilet paper, but otherwise the bathroom seemed clean. Food caters to mainland Indian tourists, so tends to be overspiced and oily. We got a stomach bug here over multiple days, so that spoiled much of our trip, and didn't eat much food here at all.

A top restaurant recommendation for local food is Nimtoh in New Market.

My stay with Sikkim Retreat was truly amazing and very very memorable. The food they served was just mouthwatering especially the cholay bhature. The staff there are so so kind, cooperative and with smiling faces. They help you in every possible manner. My Squad really enjoyed there during our 3 days stay. We also celebrated new year with them and they arranged a lovely party with the guests and staffs that too complimentary. I would recommend this hotel as it's very close from MG road. And the prices are also affordable with the best service. Thank you Arbinth and the team. Im grateful to the Team Jagjeets for making my stay so comfort, and fun not only in Gangtok but also in Darjeeling. I look forward for another trip in near future. Love you all and the city Gangtok.❤️❤️😍

This hotel caters mainly to large tour groups, so be prepared to see noisy tour groups occupying the break fast table with kids running around. our room was just behind the lobby, and hence there was heavy noise till night 11. There was no AC or Fan in the room, and it was difficult to manage the hot day without these modern aids. The food was just okay, and nothing interesting to write about. We asked for mineral water, and the room service never turned up after taking the order,so we lost interest and never ordered room service again. The pros are... the hotel is walkable distance from MG road( uphill walk), and the Gangtok football stadium nearby to watch a match.

A perfect property at a perfect location. The valley view is amazing and the food is really yum....!!! Perfect for a fab vacation. The manager and the support staff is amazing with wonderful service. A VFM hotel. At first instance you will find the property a bit over priced, but once you check in and avail the services, you will have no worries for the price paid. Out and out a good experience.

Neat and clean place. Professionally managed. Our room with extra cot and mattress was kept ready when we walked in. Coffee maker was not available at room when we checked in but immediately offered complimentary coffee /tea and tea maker was organized in the night. Good food.

I was a bit sceptical when I booked the hotel as the reviews in here are mixed. I was considering the Hidden Forest and this one. However, when I contacted the responses I received from this hotel was extremely prompt as compared to the Hidden Forest. Amul and Mr. Gurung took care of all our questions and were always very courteous.
Check in: Prompt. Ushers were waiting to help us with the luggage and the room was ready. Exactly what you want after a 5 hour drive from the plains.
Rooms: We required 2 rooms and were allotted valley facing rooms 201 and 202. 202 comes with a beautiful balcony. The views were amazing, the rooms are very, very large and our kid had a gala time running around (something you don't really get in hotels). The bathroom was clean and had a constant flow of hot water.
Food: Good choice of food and quality of food was as good as it gets. If at all, you may find the taste a bit mild and more suited for the tourists from abroad. Choice for breakfast is limited and you don't have a buffet spread, but is quite good quality nonetheless.
Location: Next to the Palzor stadium (what a beautiful stadium it is!!!), it is a bit away from the main market at M.G. Road. However, you do get taxis fairly easily to take you to M.G. Road. Depending on how you negotiate they will charge you anything between 60-100 bucks. On the way back, you could actually walk it. I did that a couple of times and it takes 15 mins at most. Its a downhill walk from M.G. Road to the hotel and hence is not strenous at all.
Service: As prompt as you can imagine. The ushers are always smiling and will never say no to your requests. Its as good a service experience as I have come across anywhere. Keep it up guys!
Other places to visit at Gangtok - Nathu La, Tsango Lake and Baba Mandir are must see (No snow at this time of the year even at Nathu La, located at 14, 500 feet). You need to take prior permission from the defence authorities for the trip. So you need to hand over your documents 1 day in advance to the tour operators. You'll need to carry 3 copies of your passport or any other recognised photo identity card like Voters ID, Driving license, etc.(note: they don't accept PAN cards as valid proof). Also carry 3 passport size photos for each person. You could also visit the Banjhakri falls (horrendous road but a lovely place), Hanuman tok and Ganesh tok (beautiful 360 degree view looking down at hills around). M.G. Road is very beautifully maintained and spending sometime there in the evening is something we loved.

When we go back to Gangtok, will definitely stay again at The Sikkim Retreat.

we visited in first week of june 2014 to gangtok
booked hotel’s luxury room through
clear trip website( showing available on site), make
total payment of luxury room . but after two hour
when we confirm from hotel they said we don’t have luxury room.
They said it is not our fault it is clear trip mistake. We asked clear trip
They said it not our mistake its hotel fault. They both blame each other.
After calling so many time to clear trip they covert our room from luxury to comfort.
When we check in hotel they give us the worst’s room in the hotel
( situated in minus three basement)
because we booked through clear trip. It is not comfort room it is
coffins (where body of dead person is placed).
After requesting so many time to change our room
they did not hear our request……( in spite of room available in hotel).
They said call clear trip you did not book hotel from us .
we always give the same room when booking come from clear trip.
The cleaning staff also misbehave with us
when we compliant about that bed sheet is dirty and wet.
We call clear trip and complaint about room .
no call and action from clear trip till the date
When we fight they shift to another room. We stay 4 day in hotel
They daily shifted our room. Our experience with hotel is horrible. They totally spoil our trip
Hotel manger Mr. Amol is a cooperative and nice person but the other person at reception(don’t know his name) he is also very rude
Please don’t stay in this hotel and
don’t book hotel from clear trip website . they miss guide you…. and never sought out your problem if your facing at hotel….

Horrible experience at the Sikkim Retreat during my stay on 25th-26th May 2018. The 2 front office managers at the reception have absolutely no decency in dealing with customers! Of the 2 days here, my in-room geyser was non-functional for 1 full day. Forget an apology, the 2 gentlemen did not hesitate in lying when asked about remediation. Also, I have never seen a hotel that refuses to replenish in-room tea bags for the duration of the stay!!! All in all, a very poor experience indeed. Strongly recommend against chosing this property for stay

The only silver lining is the restaurant staff who are caring and friendly

Hotel can help you connect with taxi drivers who can in turn get you the permit. the whole area is a mountain range, hence there is no bike parking as such.
