Netuk House, Gangtok is more than just a palatial home stay. Perched on an elevated part of Tibet Road, Netuk House is an edifice of an architecturally chanting complex with a riveting account of history and tradition. Built in the late 1950's, the house belonged to Gellong Netuk Lama, an executive counselor to the then Chogyal (Monarch). Tibet Road, as the name suggests was the principal route for travellers and traders heading up to Tibet. Most of the commuters were silk traders involved in the historic Silk Route Trade. Netuk House began offering hospitality and provided a transit point for these travellers. That marked the beginning. Even with the inevitable changes in geography, history and politics, Netuk House still stands today as a home-stay for those seeking the traditional hospitality with an opulent accommodation and food. The distinctive feature of Netuk House is perhaps the proximity to the market place, which serves an advantage for the tourists and guests.

Detailed Reviews
Gangtok 23-26 December is an acceptable proposition in winters much better than Darjeeling in any case. Netuk House terrace gives you a splendid view of the Kanchenjunga. One can in fact witness, as we did, the iconic range turn golden at sunrise.Situated an easy 10 minute walk from MG road the commercial hub of Gangtok, Netuk is unbeatable on location.
The two suites are the best rooms on the property which has a Sikkimese feel to it by virtue of traditional frescoes painted stylistically. In substance it is a modest accommodation with low roofs, concrete structures suggestive of an old travelers lodge on the Tibet road. Service and maintenance though are good but not professional. The service apartments, a block of four rooms, are to be avoided as they could as well be small shops- typical of Netuk well kept.
Gangtok is bursting with good eateries. Netuk runs a modest restaurant but in room service or at the bar not to be missed is 'chaang' a tibetan alcoholic drink made from fermented rice and millet!
Mayfair may be the most expensive hotel in Gangtok but Netuk beats it hollow on location and then there is the iconic Norkhil possibly the best place in town to stay!
A trip to Nathula another to Rumtek and a host of other monasteries makes a couple of days secure.
Purely as a value proposition I would think Netuk House is the best place to stay in Gangtok just make an early reservation to get into the very modestly priced suites which are cozy not grand or opulent!

Awesome place to stay in Gangtok. The rooms are well maintained, staffs are very cordial, the view of the valley is cherishing.
Need to climb up from M.G. Marg to reach this place. It is 5-10 mins. walk.

The location is very good and it's a very pleasant hotel.
The staff is very friendly, but they need a lot of training as they're very slow in responding. Our room was not attended to till afternoon, despite repeated requests. Requests for simple beverages like fresh lime soda took a lot of time as they only went to buy the soda and lemons 20 mins after the request was made, and the drink arrived after 30mins.
The rooms are very nice but improvements are required in the bathrooms. The shower curtain was inside the periphery of the shower area - such that the soap holder and shampoo dispenser remained outside the curtain. The shower taps are the turning type, and one had a sharp edge as a result of repairs which had to be carried out after it came off in my hand.
The Sikkimese thali was excellent but very over-priced at about Rs.900/-.

Pros:
1) Nice room with a good view of Kanchenjunga when it is visible
2) The Manager Mr Prasenjit Laha really ensures you have a great stay. He is always available and takes care of all issues. Very warm hearted and nice person.
3) Good breakfast spread
4) Very convenient location - less than a km to MG Road / mall road.
Cons:
1) The plumbing needs to be taken care of. The faucet pressure is low. Also the soap dispenser needs to be properly fitted as it just fell off the wall. The shower pressure also needs to be much better.
2) It would be good to have more south Indian choice in the breakfast.
But overall a nice hotel to stay in Gangtok!

It's perfectly located. Walkable from the touristy M G Marg and yet far enough to be quite. This is a family run business. A few of the last remaining Sikkimese properties.
In terms of food, the breakfast is impressive. But the dinner left us unimpressed. Neither the Indian nor the Sikkimese menu was worthwhile trying.

Our family of 3—including our 10-year old
child—had a relaxing and invigorating stay at Netuk House. We appreciated the warm hospitality we received from management and staff. The delicious food served at the Netuk House restaurant included traditional Sikkimese fare as well as Indian and international options.

We had an excellent stay at Netuk House in Gangtok. The rooms very very clean and offered a beautiful view all the way to Kangchengzonga. The hotel is perfectly situated in walking distance to the main plaza, the flower exhibition and the Tsuglakhang Monastery.

Hotel is good and cosy but the management should keep closer eyes on the services. Guests did not get hot water in the morning. Weather being so bad it was very important. Local of the hotel is also well defined.

Loved our stay here, beautiful house, delicious food and nice friendly staff. We had very spacious room with glorious views across the valley to the mountains. It was a short walk down the hill into town centre with lots of shops and a very nice tea room. The food was excellent and breakfast seemed never ending. At night and early morning it was a bit chilly, had to wear woolly jumper to breakfast but delicious ginger tea soon warmed me up! It was an experience and privilege to stay here.
